Pierrot gleefully walked to his sweet human’s apartment, climbing his way onto the balcony, and turning to the window to watch them sleep.
What shocked and hurt Pierrot was that… they weren’t alone. There was another human with them, whose arm was around their waist and whose body was pressed against theirs. It appeared like the blanket was the only thing covering them.
Pierrot froze, his heart shattering. His human already had a lover? Why? Pierrot was right here, surely he could be so much better than some other human!
Pierrot retreated back to the circus, tears slowly rolling down his face, and collapsed into his bed.
It was Doctor who woke him up, with a soft smile, and some food.
“You slept through breakfast,” Doctor chuckled. “Jester sent me to bring you some food and wake you up. You need to eat.”
Pierrot blinked sleepily, taking the food from Doctor, giving a hum in thanks.
“You can sleep more after you eat, we have no performances today.”
Pierrot nodded, his mouth already full with a bite, and Doctor stepped out shortly after.
It took Pierrot a few minutes to wake up fully and start getting ready for the day, but he did eventually.
He got dressed, carefully brushed out his hair, and stepped out of his tent.
Ticket Taker smiled at him when he saw the other, and Jester nodded at him and went back to what he was doing.
Harlequin walked by, patting Pierrot’s shoulder. “You’ll get over it,” he stated, then walked off, leaving Pierrot questioning how he knew what happened.
Pierrot was still moping about the human days later, even with how much Jester tried to convince him that the human wasn’t worth anything because they were a HUMAN of all things.
Pierrot had finally opened the card attached to the mysterious flowers that had been left on his pillow more than a week ago, because he wanted to believe it was actually his sweet human’s doing and that scene at their house had some completely innocent explanation.
The card was written in green ink, with a flourish in the handwriting that made it clear that it was not the human’s.
“Pierrot,
If you read this, I want you to know that I might, maybe, have the smallest, tiniest of feelings for you. I picked these flowers specifically because I know you like them, you can thank me for them later.
Come see me,
Harlequin”
Pierrot paused. Harlequin? Harlequin of all monsters liked Pierrot?? This had to be some sort of prank, but the chance that it might not be is what led Pierrot to the green performer’s tent.
“Harlequin, I saw the card you left on the flowers…” Pierrot poked his head into the tent, but Harley wasn’t there.
It took Pierrot an hour to find the other monster, who was sitting in the grass just behind the circus grounds.
“Harlequin…?” Pierrot tilted his head at him.
Harlequin turned away so his back faced Pierrot, not even acknowledging his presence.
Pierrot took a few steps forward, so Harlequin could face him, but the other turned around again.
Pierrot huffed, he knew this game. Harlequin would give him silent treatment for as long as he could before Jester put an end to it by making the two sit down and talk.
Pierrot huffed again and decided to give up, stalking back off to his own tent.
Pierrot flopped onto his bed. Harlequin was so ANNOYING, doing all this stuff and then ignoring him when he found out? Ugh, just the thought of Harlequin’s face made Pierrot want to… what DID it make him want to do?
The thought of Harlequin’s bright green eyes, perfectly styled hair, sharp tongue… it all made Pierrot feel… oddly flustered?
He couldn’t like that green bastard, absolutely not, hell no.
Just the IDEA of Harlequin courting him, giving him flowers and chocolate and gifts… shit, that actually sounded really nice. And the idea of Harlequin smiling at him, maybe even kissing him? Pierrot buried his face in his pillow and whined.
Where was this coming from?? A day ago, he was moping and sad about the human, and now he’s… developed feelings for his literal enemy?!
Pierrot rolled onto his back and stared up at the roof of his tent.
So, Harlequin liked him, and he liked Harlequin back, apparently. But Harlequin was being a little shit about it. Pierrot would just take it into his own hands then.
Pierrot thought about it. HE’D get Harlequin flowers, and maybe some other nice courting things, since Harlequin was being such a coward.

It took two days to figure out what flowers Harlequin would like, and another half a day to find some for him, but Pierrot did it nonetheless, and left the sweet-smelling flowers right in the middle of Harlequin’s freshly-made bed (Pierrot had cleaned off and made the bed himself).
In all the time it took to find and get the flowers, Harlequin had not said a single word to him or interacted with him at all. Everyone was concerned about this, because this had never lasted more than a full day.
Pierrot peeked into Harlequin’s tent, trying to see his reaction to the flowers, hoping it’d be positive.
Harlequin looked down at his bed and saw the flowers, freezing in place. He tilted his head and frowned.
“Who on Earth-?” Harlequin picked up the flowers, looking them over thoroughly. “Who would-”
Pierrot smiled to himself, Harlequin’s reaction seemed mostly positive.
Harlequin set the flowers on his nightstand, sitting down at his desk and starting to write something in a notebook. He hummed as he wrote, his head tilted to the side. Occasionally, he’d pause and chew on the end of his pen while he thought.
Pierrot snuck off a little while later, and climbed into his bed. Harlequin’s reaction was a very good sign.
Two days later, Pierrot, who was fed up with the silent treatment, went up to Harlequin, who was buried in a book, and tapped his shoulder.
Harlequin looked up at him, finally, and huffed.
“What do you need?” He looked back down at his book. “I’m busy.”
“You’ve been ignoring me,” Pierrot crossed his arms over his chest. “I want to know why.”
“Because you’re annoying, now go away.”
“I saw your note.”
Harlequin looked back up at Pierrot. “You saw it?”
“Why would you do that and then ignore me afterwards?!” Pierrot hissed. “I’ve been trying to get your attention for days, to ask you about it, and you’ve been ignoring me! I put flowers on your bed to try and get your attention and that STILL doesn’t work!”
“You put the flowers there?”
“I did!” Pierrot huffed. “And you still pay no attention to me and ignore me, I-!”
Harlequin pulled Pierrot down to him and kissed him, which stunned the other monster.
Harlequin released him a moment later. “Heh… I didn’t realize you felt the same. I was ignoring you because I was worried I wouldn’t be able to keep this to myself.”
Pierrot gave him a dazed smile. “Mm…”
Harlequin chuckled and leaned back in to kiss Pierrot again, who happily accepted the gesture.
