Work Text:
"She sacrificed herself for us", Shiro said that day. That was the first time I'd heard of her.
"A Bioman must be willing to die for their friends." Honestly, until that moment, I never imagined myself giving my life for someone. I've always thought more about myself and what I want before anything else.
And then, by chance, I learned the story of a girl who sacrificed herself for everything she loved most. Her friends, the Earth... the African nature she longed to photograph.
She passed away before she could make her dream come true. I wonder if her soul regrets it. Because of that, I like to think that she and her brother can see Africa from up there.
I bet they're happy.
Sometimes I ask myself if she would like me. Because I, Jun, carry her legacy as if it were something sacred. Well, it is sacred indeed.
I feel proud, but sad too. Because nothing and no one in this world will be able to fill the void she left.
Not even me.
It's not like I'm trying to be her. I guess I'm just afraid of occupying a space that isn't mine.
"It's like Mika came back to life," Hikaru said when I became Yellow Four for the first time. I know it wasn't on purpose. I know it was an innocent comment, made in the heat of the moment, but it genuinely scares me.
Then Mika, wherever you are, and if you can even hear me, don't be angry with me, much less with Hikaru.
She just misses you a lot.
