Chapter Text
The light from the early morning sun, creeping in from the little cracks in the blinds covering the window right next to the bed that Lovino was sleeping in, was all that needed to wake him up. To be honest he didn’t even get that much sleep, he was too busy thinking to even care about sleep. Also the god awful beds they put in the dorms of boarding schools didn’t help. He no longer needed an alarm to wake up since lately he’s only been getting about 2-3 hours of sleep making him a light sleeper for some reason. You could make a good estimate on how much sleep he’s been getting based on his face alone and most definitely be correct. Under his eyes there were dark purple eyebags on top of his olive skin.
Getting up from his bed groaning from being tired walking to the bathroom connected to his room. Looking into the mirror his dark brown wavy hair was visibly unkempt looking messy from sleep. The lights from the bathroom blinding him as he flips the switch on. Brushing his teeth rapidly till his gums start bleeding. The cold water splashing onto his face, but he was too tired to even react to the intense numbing that the water gave.
Walking out and into the dorm it wasn’t really decorated, nothing much to look at. It was only him in that room as well, lonely. Feliciano was a grade below him so they couldn’t share one even if he wanted to. Feliciano was lucky enough to get the same dorm room as his stupid boyfriend Ludwig, he was also lucky enough that the school didn’t know that they’re dating even with how close they are with each other since they’ll probably get separated. Feliciano and Lovino used to hang out with each other every lunch, but now that he’s dating that potato eater that blonde has been tagging along. That made Lovino pretty irritated because he and Feliciano used that time to catch up on the day to get some brotherly time together.
Reaching into the closet grabbing the ugly uniform that was required or you’d get dress coded. I need to do my laundry soon, Lovino thought. The basket of dirty laundry overflowing with a mix of uniforms and sleepwear. As he slips on his blue plaid paints he catches a glimpse of the scars on his legs. It’s a sight he sees pretty often but not one that he enjoys, every time he sees it he becomes disgusted by it. It was something that he didn’t want to think about and to just forget it, act like it wasn’t there in the first place.
The school bell goes off to make sure that everybody actually is awake. It was annoying since Lovino didn’t need it to help him wake up anymore. It rang three times all between five minutes with staff walking up and down the halls talking loudly asking if the students were awake yet. All of it was just one big nuisance.

Breakfast was going well, Lovino sat with his brother and they talked. Feliciano was blabbering about the dream he had that night. It was something about how he was in the kitchen and a unicorn served him pasta and then it put rainbow sprinkles with the magic it had. It was weird the only thing that Lovino could get from that was that his brother was probably high on something or just got really drunk from the wine that's hidden in his room. But half way during breakfast Ludwig decided to join. Ludwig was right next to Feliciano and it was sickening. They were flirting in front of Lovino!
“Non potete portare questa cosa da un'altra parte? (Can’t you guys take this somewhere else?)” Lovino blurted out in Italian so only his brother could understand him.
“Cosa?! Perché devi essere così? (What! Why do you have to be like that?)” responded Feliciano. Ludwig just sat there looking at both of them clearly confused. The only languages that he knows really well are English and German. The only thing that he knows in Italian is probably “Hello, how are you?” so he couldn’t understand what the two brothers were saying.
Ludwig turned to Feliciano and asked, “What are you guys talking about?”
“Oh nothing! Lovino was just telling me about the party that’s going on today,” Feliciano quickly responded. “He said that he might go and that we should come with. I think that they’re holding it since it’s Friday and we’re done with the midterm exams.”
“Is it the party that Alfred is hosting? I’ve heard about it from Kiku, he was telling me since he is Alfred’s roommate,” Ludwig chimed in.
“Yeah, Kiku told me as well he’s trying to get people to come,” nodded Feliciano.
*Ring*
“What! Breakfast is already over!” whined Feliciano.
“I’ll walk with you to homeroom Feli,” suggested Ludwig.
“Okay!”
That left Lovino alone. Like everyday after the two left it was just himself left to walk to class. Walking to class Lovino could feel the eyes on him. Walking all by himself what a loser is what they’re all thinking, thought Lovino. It was true though he was all alone he didn’t have anyone to walk with as well, so it wasn’t entirely his fault. But that was just an excuse. Lovino isn’t the most friendly person most people would probably say that he’s too abrasive or hard to communicate with.
Taking his seat in the back of the classroom next to the window was the only good thing about homeroom. As students fill in, Lovino takes out his English homework since he didn’t do it after school yesterday. It was a paper about a character analysis about someone in The Great Gatsby. A few minutes goes by and the bell rings again to make sure that all of the students are in their classrooms. Lovino was super focused on the paper since English was his next period that he didn’t realize that the teacher was calling out his name. Until the teacher was right in front of his desk.
“Lovino I’ve been calling your name for quite some time now,” the teacher sounded super annoyed when the words left his mouth.
“Oh, I’m sorry, is there anything you need?” Lovino responded. Again he could feel all of the eyes of his classmates on him. Everybody looking at him trying to see what was going on, all of their heads turned straight in Lovino’s direction.
“Why yes, I need you to go to the counseling office. They want to speak with you,” the teacher said with a sarcastic voice at first. People giggling, not even trying to hide it. When Lovino stood up and walked out of the classroom he could hear people whisper about why he might be going to the office. But to be honest Lovino didn’t even know why he was being sent to the office. All of his grades were good, he hasn’t gotten in trouble nor made trouble, so why was he getting sent to the office?
Knocking on the door, Lovino was greeted with the warm smile of the lady at the front desk, “Oh, Lovino you’re here, just make your way to the dorm room supervisor.”
“Allright, thank you,” nodded Lovino, walking to the room where the supervisor was.
Knocking on the door of the supervisor opening the door, “Ahh Lovino, we need to talk.”
“About what?” asked Lovino with suspicion in his voice.
“You know how you’re the only person in your dorm.”
“Yeah..”
“Well you’re going to have to…uh how do i put this,” the supervisor takes a deep breath. “You’re going to have to share your room now.” The supervisor said that so fast that it took Lovino ten seconds to process what he just said.
“Excuse me? I have to what?”
“You’re going to have to share your room.”
“Why! I’ve been having my own room for this entire school year so far! Why do I have to start now!” Lovino hissed trying to get an answer from the supervisor.
“Well, it’s because the other student also has one room to himself and we have two new students coming in two weeks. So we need an open room, and we need to move him into your room since you’re the only one that has room available,” the supervisor answered.
Lovino was speechless, he literally had no words left to say. That was such a dumb reason! His face was stuck on a disgusting scowl aimed towards the supervisor. With his eyebrows knitting together and wide eyes he tried to comprehend everything that was going on. Who even was this guy that was going to move in his room? What if he was some complete weirdo!
“Look if we’re being honest right now there’s also another reason that I’m making this student room with you,” the supervisor started making Lovino snap out of his thoughts, “I’ve seen you around school, and I don’t mean to come off as rude but you seem quite lonely.” The supervisor wasn’t wrong but hearing the truth from a member of the staff, especially the dorm supervisor meant that Lovino wasn’t so subtle about it. “From what I can see you only hang out with your brother most of the time. Sometimes Antonio, but as of recently most just your brother,” Lovino hadn't even noticed that he was drifting from Antonio. Antonio was one of his greatest friends, he practically grew up with him. “I think you could learn a thing or two from your brother, he’s great friends with the guy he’s rooming with. They’re always together.”
Ah yes, the supervisor can tell that Lovino is most likely going through a really bad and dark time in his life but not that Feliciano and Ludwig are dating.
“Well I’m holding you for too long, you should go back to your homeroom now,” the supervisor suggested, trying to wrap up the conversation.
“Wait, who’s going to move into my room?” Lovino asked. But the supervisor just rushed him out of the office and left him with his thoughts. As Lovino left the office he kept muttering curses under his breath clearly not very happy about this new decision. As the day went on the more distracted he became from what he was told that even his brother noticed. He was so distracted that he didn’t even pay attention when Ludwig came over and sat down with the two brothers, not even one sly remark came out of Lovino’s mouth.
