Work Text:
A man will always want—
Want freedom, want friendship,
It’s a thing all men follow,
so disgustingly human.
A man will want what he cannot have
He will have all in the world, but reach out to something universes away.
A sin no human can avoid—
The King shall sit on his throne of gold and power
Draped in yellow silk that never fades,
But still, he will want someone neither gold nor power can buy.
Selfishness.
The want… the need to claim all to oneself
To indulge in all there is in the world
What was, is and will be.
And crave more.
But dear reader, I too, am selfish
I know the king well,
Better than anyone should.
So yes, perhaps I am the king,
The one clad in yellow.
For I am rich, spoiled by the world.
But I want what coins can’t buy
My dear reader—
I want you.
I want to be enveloped in your presence
Bathe in your love,
Drown myself in your eyes
I want to whisper words into your ears,
Praise you in your glory,
“You are real, you are special…”
I wish to whisper those words until I fall asleep
I want you close.
I want you to stay.
I want—
But…
A man will always want what he can’t have
No matter how much I want—
I will always find myself at the gates.
“Until next time, friend.”
How my heart aches at that label.
