The sun was falling on the double life server when BDubs and Impulse finally finished their base.
One probably wouldn't expect it, but it's surprisingly exhausting carrying back and forth buckets of snow all day. The substance might be rather light on its own, but with the metal and having to compact it down so as to not collapse the building, it did really wear one down after a couple of hours carrying it.
So the two —pleased with the fruits of their labor— went inside and plopped down on their brand new massive bed, covered in soft, but still unscented pillows. Amazing, but yet to be personalized to its owners.
Impulse sat with his back leaning against the wall, while BDubs splayed himself out widely over the mattress like a starfish.
This was the first moment of peace they had together since discovering their bond, and at the same time also the first time Impulse got to have a good look at his new partner.
“So, we’re a thing now,” BDubs said rather casually, eyes looking up at him. It was probably to see if and what kind of reaction he was getting out of his new partner, you know, test the water before diving in.
“Yeah, it seems like it.” Impulse smiled, too distracted with looking at BDubs to think of a better response.
“Am I not the amazing partner you hoped for?” He said, putting emphasis on the word amazing as he looked at Impulse with big puppy eyes.
“No- wait yes… Yes you’re amazing.” Impulse was stumbling over his own words as he tried to respond, color rushing to his cheeks. “I mean, what were the odds? Really couldn’t have been much.”
“You’re the smart one here Impy,” He joked some more. In the meanwhile he shifted his body in such a way his head could rest comfortably on Impulse’s lap.
Without really having to think about it, Impulse started to comb his hand through BDubs hair. BDubs didn't protest or try to pull away, so he didn't stop, didn't want to. It was natural, like they didn’t just find a couple hours ago.
“Wanna know something funny BDubs?” Impulse spoke again after a while of them simply laying there in silence. A silence that had lasted for so long that BDubs flinched a little at the unexpected sound.
“Well yes of course,” He said once the words had sunken into his head and his brain seemed to have absorbed their meaning.
“I’ve had an eye on you since… the original game, the one with the castle,” He admitted, talking turning into mumbling the further in the sentence he got.
“Then I guess this was meant to be,” BDubs responded. There was a smile on his face as he lifted himself up, putting his knees back under his body again.
He wobbled a little at first as he tried to get his balance back on the soft, rather unstable matrress. Impulse’s now empty hands grabbing BDubs around the waist as a way to help him.
“Careful,” Impulse said as he waited for his partner to be completely stable once more.
“Do I really have to? I mean last time I looked I have a strong and beautiful partner ready to take care of me,” And as he finished talking he leaned over and kissed Impulse, it really wasn’t much, just a peck on the lips, but if Impulse’s cheeks weren’t still red from earlier? They definitely were now.
At the same time it was like the words were taken out of his mouth as all he could do was stare. Stare longingly and try not to drown in his own feelings.
When BDubs went in for another kiss Impulse immediately wrapped his arms around his soulmate and kept him close. Deepening the kiss as they started to make out.
Impulse couldn't tell you how long they kissed, it probably wasn't long, but for him it was an amazing 2 minutes, or 1, or 30 seconds, he really, really didn't know.
“We should get some sleep,” BDubs eventually said, pulling Impulse with him to lay down.
Impulse yawned as he cuddled up against BDubs and pulled the blankets over them, he smiled when BDubs did the same.
“I love you,” Impulse said once they both got themselves positioned comfortably.
“I love you more Impy,” BDubs responded, just a bit mockingly to get a slight chuckle out of Impulse.
Just like that the two drifted off to the sleep of a peaceful first night in this new world.
