Chapter Text
It´s been a rough couple of days for Dex. He couldn't really sleep ,his cat had died a couple of days ago and on top of that all the new case was so draining for him. The last couple of weeks there have been a couple of break ins, on very important facilities or at least tried break ins. Because every time they, or the police arrived there, the intruders were already captured, if one wants to say it like that. They were tied up together with ropes, beaten up and when asked who stopped them the only thing they would say was “the devil”.
But he had no time to think about that right now, he had to get ready. He was going to the court house today so he needed a bit more time to pick out the right things. Although the case had nothing to do with him, he felt a sort of obligation to be there. A cop had died. Pushed in front of a train by a civilian. He hadn’t really known the man that died, only worked with him once or twice, but he had only heard good things about him so it didn’t wonder him that a lot of policeman and colleagues of his were already at the court house when he arrived.
When he entered the courtroom, he was greeted with warm light coming from the windows to his right and the smell of old books and wood. The room was built like a classroom of sorts, walking into it, he first strode past benches and seats that were yet to be filled with cops, agents, family and friends. A bit further down the way were the place the closest relatives normally said, right in front of these seats was a sort of barrier, separating the lawyers, judges, defendants and witnesses from the rest. Dex sat down about hallway down the walkway waiting for others to walk in and the trial to start.
The trial had not started yet but Dex’s attention was already fixated on the front of the room. The defendant was already sitting there, but he wasn't alone next to him said two men, one on each side. The first was a smaller, rounder man, with short blonde hair. But the other man was more interesting to him, he was taller than the other men beside him, he had short brown hair that shone slightly red when the sun hit it through the windows. His beard had the same colour, it was short but still very visible. He wore a blue coat with a matching tie and a lighter bluer shirt underneath. The only thing he couldn’t make out were the mans eyes, they were hidden beneath glasses with red lenses. So, that is Matt Murdock, he thought to himself, he had heard a lot about him. A blind lawyer, and a good one too. That’s nothing you come across often. He and his partner which Dex assumed was the blond guy, opened their law firm a couple years ago.
“You alright?”, a woman with long blonde hair next to him asked.
“Yeah, I was just thinking about this whole thing here”, he mumbled, “Why are you asking?”
“I was just worried. You seemed a bit off to me. Oh, I’m Karen by the way.”
“Well, hello Karen. Nice to meet you, I’m Dex. What are you doing here?”
“My friends, or rather colleagues, are the defendants lawyers”
“Oh, so you’re that Karen Page. Understood”
“I assume you also know who my friends are than. But why are you here?”
“I work for the FBI so it’s a sort of gesture of respect towards the man that —”, Dex was interrupted by a voice coming from the front.
“Please, be seated”, echoed the judge’s voice through the court room.
The trial started. It was nothing special, the usual stuff that happens in such trials. Until Matt Murdock pulled out a white mask and revealed his client to be the white tiger. After that, a lot changed. The focus point shifted, it was no longer the dead policeman rather than if vigilantes are feral and unlawful or if they’re just people trying to help. He watched everything carefully, the judges, the defendant, the lawyers — the lawyer. Since he had revealed the white tiger masked something had changed, he had changed, he spoke louder, his body followed the moves of his voice, he got more and more invested in proving that this vigilante was not some criminal but a person with a life and a soul. To Dex it seemed somewhat, personal.

After the trial was finished Dex stood outside a little longer talking with Karen, when suddenly two men appeared behind her. They both hugged Karen as a greeting, smiling at the won trial and happy they could go home. Who was he to judge, no one really liked courthouses.
“Right, almost forgot, Matt, Foggy, this is Dex. Dex this are Matt and Foggy”, Karen exclaimed.
“Nice to meet you”, Foggy spoke, shaking his hand friendly.
“You too”, Dex answered.
His eyes then wandered to Matt. Closer up, his hair looked even better than from distance. Before he could say anything. Matt took a step towards him
“Yes — nice to meet you, Dex”, he uttered, nearly stumbling over his own words whilst stretching his hand out for Dex to shake.
“Very nice to meet you too, Matt”, he said, shaking the other man’s hand. He tried to get a better glance at Matt’s eyes but his glasses were still covering them.
“It was very nice talking to you, but I think we need to go now”, Matt spouted
“Oh, ok. Have a nice day than”, he said trying not to sound too disappointing at the lost opportunity to have a talk with them.
“Wait. Would you like to join us tonight going out?”, Foggy asked before anyone even got a chance to turn around.
“Yeah that’s a great idea”, Karen exclaimed in excitement.
“Sure, if you want me to”, he accepted, grateful to have another opportunity to speak with them again — to speak with Matt
“Great, just meet us at Josie's at 8 o’clock”, Foggy said.
