Work Text:
Querl was tired. It had passed since the last time he saw his wife, thirty long days he spent giving operational support to the Legion without even hearing her voice.
The only peaceful moment in this day came when he passed through his house’s door and was received by a small purple flash jumping on him at a super human speed.
— DADDY!
Alura Dox is his biggest pride, it pained him every day to have to leave home to work for the Legion and leave his daughter at school, but he knew that even at such a young age she could protect herself all thanks to the powers she inherited from her mother.
— MY LOVE! — Querl spinned his daughter in his arms with equal excitement.
— Daddy, why are you so late? You promised to spend the holiday with me. — Her euphoria was replaced by little tears that threatened to drop from her eyes.
It was Superman’s Day, it was a highly anticipated holiday throughout the galaxy, and today, free from his duties, he had promised to attend the parade with her in the center of New Metropolis, but in the morning his plans were ruined all thanks to an emergency call from the Legion.
— Don’t cry, angel. — He pleaded in a lower tone and held her tight — The Legion called me, they needed support to fight against an invasion to earth. I’m so sorry, I really wanted to spend more time with you.
A sob left Alura's lips, she was so excited about the parade… She and her father didn't spend much time together, she had school and he had a job that rarely gave him time off, and with her mother away taking care of things in the past, Alura thought he would be spending more time at home with her.
A tear left Querl’s eyes, he hates to see his daughter sad and it was worse when it was his fault.
— Alura… — He called and stroked her golden curls — Do you wanna see what dad got for you?
— Hm? — Her little blue eyes, still red from the cry, looked straight at him.
The young Alura resembled her mother in almost everything, except for her soft, Coluan green skin and an enormous curiosity that rivaled with her father.
So it was no surprise to Brainiac 5 when the metallic object he had brought from Legion HQ was snatched from his hand with superhuman speed.
— What is this, Daddy? — she asked excitedly as she flew and shook the object.
— It's an intertemporal video play. I know Mommy has been spending a lot of time in the past and you… We miss her, so I thought it would be cool to watch her mission in the past together.
A huge smile spread across Alura's face before she grabbed her father's arm and pulled him into the room he shared with Kara without giving him time to react.
— COME ON DADDY! I WANT TO SEE MOMMY FIGHTING!
Querl laughed at his daughter's excitement, she loved watching her parents in action, even when it was just simple lab research. Alura liked to sneak in and help them with their creations.
As soon as they seated in the bed, Querl began projecting onto the bedroom wall, being graced with the scene of his wife fighting alone against an army of parademons in 21st-century Metropolis.
— GET THEM, MOM!
Supergirl flew through the skies of the City of Tomorrow, destroying Darkseid's minions with her long-range heat vision. The entire perimeter had been evacuated in advance to spare civilians from the damage caused by the parademon invasion.
Without realizing it, Supergirl was attacked from behind, throwing her onto the ground.
— MOM, NO! — she screamed, hiding her face with her hands.
Querl approached his daughter and gently touched her shoulders, trying to comfort her.
— Calm down, Alura… Remember what she told you before she left?
— T-that… She would always come home. — She replied, sobbing.
Trusting her mother's promise, Alura took her hands away from her eyes and returned to watching the battle. Supergirl had returned to the city skies and retaliated by trapping several parademons in an ice coffin before exterminating them with her heat vision.
An intense physical fight raged for a few more minutes before a purple portal opened in the sky and what remained of Darkseid's army was drawn to the other side by an intense, high-pitched sound. The League had won the battle against Darkseid on Apokolips, and the world was safe once more.
— She did it! — Alura hugged her father tightly, celebrating Kara's victory.
— I told you, my love. — Querl kissed his daughter's forehead and returned the hug. "Now it's time for bed."
— But Daddy...— Her voice trailed off as she shrank back in disapproval.
— No 'buts,' darling. You have school tomorrow, remember?
Not knowing how to retort him, Alura reluctantly complied with her father's request and laid down in the bed before the bedroom lights were turned off one by one by voice command.
During the early morning hours, the electronic door to the room opened. It was Kara, fresh out of the shower and dressed in lighter clothes.
She stopped in front of the door and watched her husband and daughter sleeping together in bed, the two embraced and with their low, synchronized breathing. Kara smiled at the sight, she had spent a month taking care of Earth in the 21st century and hadn't had a single minute that she hadn't thought about abandoning everything and running back home.
Seeing not only Earth's future stable, but the two people who were most important to her in this world, safe and happy was worth any battle she had faced.
A lonely tear escaped her eye before she took a step forward to share the bed with her family.
— Goodnight.
