Chase’s Nightmare
Chase tosses and turns in bed as he falls deeper into his slumber.
Chase finds himself running for his life through a long, empty forest. He can barely catch his own breath.
<WILLIAM’S LAUGHTER> echoes in the distance.
William: Aw… Why are you running away? Don’t go; stay for a bite.
Chase doesn’t stop running.
William: We were having such a great time you and I. Don’t you think?
Chase continues to run.
William: You’re really living up to your name. Maybe I should too.
William shifts into high gear and starts running after Chase. Chase knows not to look back, but he hears footsteps approaching fast. When he turns around, he sees William running fangs ablazing while gaining speed.
William: I’M COMING FOR YOU! RAWR!!!
Chase: AAAHH!
Chase loses his footing and trips. He braces himself since he has no choice but to accept his fate. A few beats pass, and nothing happens.
Chase: Huh?
Chase turns around, but William isn’t behind him anymore.
Chase: He’s gone?
Chase turns back around to find—
William: BWAAAH!!
Chase: AAH!
Chase cowers in fear as William makes a horrific face.
William: HAHAHA! Look at you. You’re shaking in your boots you’re so scared. I don’t blame you. One look at my fangs and everyone runs for the hills.
William gets a better look at Chase.
William: You really make this shit too easy. So… what do you think I should do with you? Shall I devour you in one fell swoop? Or maybe I should keep you alive and see how long you can put up with me. I wanna hear your thoughts.
Chase watches in horror. He has no idea what he could possibly say to this monster.
William: Take your time.
Chase gulps.
Chase: T-There’s no point. Because no matter which one I pick… you’ll destroy me in an instant.
William pauses for a moment.
William: BAHAHAHA! Damn, that’s the smartest thing I’ve ever heard you say! I didn’t think you were capable of thinking like that. (Sincerely) You’ve got me in a good mood.
William appears to have a soft, genuine smile on his face. So Chase tries to calm down a bit but suddenly…
Chase: ACK!
William kicks Chase and sends him flying.
William: You wanna know why I pick on you so much? It’s because I totally can and there’s nothing you can do about it!
William keeps stomping out Chase.
William: You’re merely human! A weakling! You could never hope to defeat the likes of me! Not now, not ever! You humans think you’re all that, when in reality you’re just a bitch who can’t fight back! DO IT! I DARE YOU! FIGHT BACK! FIGHT BACK!!
Chase is damaged pretty badly.
William crouches down to Chase’s level.
William: You know, about the whole “wanting to devouring you” thing… I’m gonna tell you a little secret… (quietly) I’m actually not even that hungry right now. Hehehe.
Chase’s eyes widened.
Chase: (V.O) You mean he doesn’t even want to eat me… he’s just doing it for the love of the game?!
William: Ever since I started dating Callum, his blood has been more than enough to satisfy me. I feed on him constantly, and now I have more energy than I know what to do with. I think I’ll keep him around for a while.
Chase: (V.O) That explains why Callum looked so pale in school today.
Flashback to earlier in school. Chase walks down the hallway and passes by Callum, who doesn’t look very good.
Chase: Hey, are you good?
Callum doesn’t respond with words, instead he gives a faint smile.
Chase: Callum?
William walks up from behind Chase.
William: He’s fine. Just a little tired. Toodles.
Callum and William walk away and the flashback ends.
Chase: You… you mean you were just using Callum this whole time?
William: Don’t say it like that. I am a growing boy after all. I need to eat just as much as you and everyone else. I’ll continue to feed on him as much as I want for as long as I want and there’s nothing you can do about it! Hahaha! Vampires like us can do whatever the hell we want while you humans wallow in shame like pigs! MWAHAHAHA!
William’s laughter trails out and Chase awakes with a fright. Even though it was just a dream, Chase is so paranoid that he can’t distinguish between reality and fiction.
Chase: All vampires are evil and can’t be trusted no matter what. They’re out to get us… they’re gonna eat us…! Not if I have anything to say about it.
Chase starts fiddling around in the middle of the night. He goes online to do some research.
Chase: “How to slay a vampire”. Perfect.
