A Change In The Wind

Summary:

Morro finds himself in what is now the sacred Spectral Lands. All on his own, he decided it was time he loosens his grip and allow himself to sit down. For a moment.

Work Text:

A gentle whistle of wind caressed his dark hair. The cold, dead air of the Spectral Lands in contrast to Ninjago's, one he is no longer familiar with. The last breath of wind left only at heart of the former Elemental Master of Wind: Morro.

Morro's eyes rest at last with the exhaustion present in their ghostly, jade colour. He didn't have a gist of an idea where he was and it's not like he wants to know either, at least not at the moment while he's contemplating his next act to be productive. His bubble of thinking was burst by a voice echoing from not too far off where he was sat.

"Gee, so much for bein' dead. What in tarnation-?" An elderly man, another soul, he had made his way to the Spectral Lands... Eye contact directly with another ghost had the old man standing there looking jittery in his worn out clothes and his unpatched strawhat with holes for makeshift eyelets seem to barely actually protect his eyes from the flashes of Spectral Beams. He seemed murked. "You, there. Fella, y'know your way around here?"

"What? Oh, uh..." Morro seemed reluctant as he hadn't spoken to another soul, let alone a real person in so long, whatever even happened since the last time he was brought back to the living land during the Yin-Yang Eclipse. And he knew he had definitely blasted a big number on his reputation prior said eclipse when he had acted on his intentions to curse the 16 realms, in service to The Preeminent and his own inner raging vengeance.

Morro halted— What is he doing? What can he do? What can he say? He shook his head. The old man could only muster a small chuckle in understanding. Seems like it shook Morro off a bit from spacing out in his own troubled mind.

With more meaning and intention he then offered his hand, "I may have an air of familiarity." He said with his gruff voice. "If you'd like, I could... Escort you?" And that seemed more like a question to himself than actual confirmation for the old man. But he found that confidence again. He will be the guardian of these precious lands for the departed.

Had he not realize from the start, only until the spirit of the old man had moved on, the warmth in his heart becomes more familiar and comfortable. Morro found a flickering sense of hopefulness in knowing he could at least make little progress from this action, even if a nagging and demanding old lady, a pushover and whiny teenager... To a small, scared yet stubborn child. Morro stopped hesitating to lend his hand to guide the spirits.

With the merge, naturally, Morro's movements just seem right with the wind. He'd atone for the past to reconcile with his element and even without it, there is always that breeze cascading through his hair and remains a strong gust of a fight in his heart. He swung his double-headed spear and struck the creature, landing a blow enough to have him almost recoiling back. Soul suckers. In that moment, he felt it was even more natural to fight for not only himself but for those who cannot protect themselves, a lesson he relearned from wise Master Wu.

The Departed Ninja, he'd found light in darkness as he found darkness in light.

‎People don't change. They only reveal who they truly are. Morro is no exception to that, practically a rare life event to even have the chance of to repent while one is still alive and kicking but as death is inevitable; how he ended up at the cursed realm in the first place, how he'd forsaken his honor as a ninja, fighting against his own master. He was but a child full of determination, clouded by entitlement to the utmost honor of being the chosen green ninja and it was never his destiny to begin with, to say it was even taken away from him. A child full of determination for self worth to prove to his master, he only yearned for the title, careless of the responsibilities that should come with the duty of the green ninja. A child, once was a young master's biggest regret.

Yet a sliver of hope, then comes the realization of what it was that seemed to have opened Morro's eyes. How the first time when the old man seemed to trust him of all people as a guide through the departed, it was almost weird from a stranger but nonetheless, to Morro it was a nice change in the wind after that while.

Morro knew he deserved to be where he stands today, and all that is next to be thrown in his way or maybe in his face, he'll take it. Whatever chance of redemption had been forfeited for him before, it's not like he couldn't even bring himself to hope for any of that. That is not until he learns the first step to his true potential. Acceptance.
