There is a bond. A bond stronger than anything that is known. Stronger than blood, stronger than lust. It ties two people together; intertwines their lives to the point where separation is impossible. And that is why they must put it down and destroy it.
The others, they don't understand. Not really. To them, we are just close sisters. Twins practically. And being sorted into two separate houses doesn't help either. It is hard for us to spend time together; and often it has to be in a public place where anyone could see us. That is the price we must bear for living in a civilized society, I guess.
But there is one place we can go that none can follow. And until we gain the right of independence that age and knowledge bring, it is the only place where we can truly be together. The way we were meant to be.
I waited for her, just where I promised her I'd be. I knew that she'd come; she always did. We stumbled upon our secret place by accident. One night, we just found ourselves there. Of course that first time was a complete and total nightmare. I don't even want to think about it now, just in case I somehow manage to jinx us and call forth aspects of that nightmarish episode.
Rosalyn came while I was remembering. I embraced her like I always did, here in our secret place; as a sister, a friend. A lover. And she held me close in return. We just stood there for a timeless moment. We had all the time in the world, after all. There was no reason to rush. At least not yet. Dawn was a long way off.
Together we laid down on the soft grass, bodies intertwined. We talked of inconsequential things; our classes, year mates, current events. We debated over the initiation trails for the Society of Serpents; who was likely to pass, to fail. Who we would trust with our very lives, with the life of the other. And who we wouldn't trust even as far as we could throw them. As we talked, the sun rose and set for the course of many moons. Time had no meaning here.
And as we talked, Rosalyn reached over to gently caress my cheek. I took her hand and placed a soft kiss on the palm. Pulling her close, I placed another soft kiss on her lips. A kiss that she returned. We stayed like that for another eternity, as days turned into nights and back into days.
The kisses melted into caresses. Every inch of the other that we could reach, we did. Clothes faded into air, but it mattered not. We were together; one. And the time that wasn't true time stopped in those moments. The moon and stars froze in their place. The wind blown leaves stilled, and the falling petals halted. As we cried out in our love, our bond. Everything was perfect.
But even perfection could not last forever. Through the stillness a raven called; shattering our eternity. A warning. It was time to leave this place. To return to the school, and to hiding the true nature of our relationship from those who refuse to understand. To the grind of homework, and classes, and house rivalries. Until we are once again able to visit our most hallow and secret place. Until the night, when we can finally meet and fully let down our guards. Until then, all I can do is wait and dream about dancing again.
