Deep Inhale

Summary:

There is something so viciously obvious in the way Kakashi is staring, body canted forward in his chair, right into Gai’s personal space. Which is saying something as the man hadn’t been aware he had such a thing as ‘personal space’.

Notes:

Just a short little piece where Kakashi changes the parameters of the relationship with his rival, and Gai is just along for the ride.
They're cute and I wished I owned them, but am merely a slave to their story.

Work Text:

There is something so viciously obvious in the way Kakashi is staring, body canted forward in his chair, right into Gai’s personal space. Which is saying something as the man hadn’t been aware he had such a thing as ‘personal space’. As a taijutsu master he’d become more than comfortable with moving, sweaty bodies against his own and Kakashi’s had been one of them many times over; in challenges, sparing practices and the occasional drunken revelries that required a support system of staggering, groping holds on one another to get home.

Kakashi’s gloved hand comes to rest heavy on his thigh and Gai’s muscles jump under the light touch, the exposed skin of his Rival’s fingers burning through the spandex and heating the skin underneath. Maybe it’s the new, brazen intent in his friend’s silent language that is in fact crossing some barrier, but Gai doesn’t consider stopping him.

He wonders if there even exists a line that he wouldn’t let the other man reach for him over as Kakashi’s clothed face suddenly comes close, nose nudging against his cheek in the barest caress. Because what Kakashi is doing is beyond strange and frighteningly intimate, but somehow astonishingly welcomed.

Gai swallows, allowing himself a moment of self-flagellation for never having taken the time to explore the depths of his feelings for his Eternal Rival, before taking a measured breath and bringing up calloused fingers to drag and catch along Kakashi’s covered cheek.

A hand instantly cups the back of his, curling their fingers together over the edge of the mask. Together, they pull it down.

The warmth of Kakashi’s breath runs out along Gai’s skin and his free hand curls around the edge of his chair, fighting to stay still and understand what’s happening. Lips just barely skim the surface of his cheek, trailing electricity beneath the touch as they meander down, tucking up under his jaw, nose nestled comfortably hot in the tender crux below his ear. Kakashi takes a deep pull of air through his nose, holds, then releases hot breath all over Gai’s neck, its noise carrying a shuddering moan. Hot, flushing tingles shoot through Gai’s body and he tilts his head towards Kakashi’s in response to the dancing nerves, rubbing their cheeks together.

Fingers grip his hair tightly and another quick breath is taken in. Words rumble directly into his ear, you smell incredible, and it’s Gai’s turn to moan.

Kakashi-” Turns into a sharp gasp as a hot tongue licks at the junction of throat and jaw, digging insistently into the tensing muscles. Gai’s heart thumps wildly in his chest and he wants to shut down the part of his mind screaming out questions: why was this happening? Why now? Why him?

Kakashi has never shown such a physical interest and Gai wonders if he’s somehow simply fantasizing all of this. He briefly pauses his chakra flow and is incredibly surprised when a genjutsu doesn’t break, the only reaction Kakashi laughing into his neck.

Gai moves to stand and give them both room to calm down, but Kakashi flows with him, hands sliding around to cup the back of his head and wrap around his hip, mouth opening wide against his neck, kissing and sucking at the skin there so Gai’s knees begin to shake. Kakashi leaves hot wet trails as his movements become more frenzied. Gai tilts his head back to give his rival more room in this strange new scenario, but his friend’s hand pulls him forward again, those wet lips sliding up his chin and suddenly they’re kissing and Gai wonders how he ever went one second of any day not imagining what that would feel like, because Kakashi’s tongue is licking into him and he’s never known this kind of shaking, heat-filled pleasure.

Gai has kissed his share of people over the years and bedded enough of them, but whatever is happening now somehow feels like a continuation of a connection between him and his dearest friend that’s run deeper and over more terrain than any other. It’s shaking him to his core, where the pressure is so intense that over the years it’s turned into a solid mass of need for his friend, his rival, his-

He can admit now that he’s always neatly sidestepped placing Kakashi in too fine a light, both a deference to Kakashi’s need to not have his shadows observed closely and Gai’s own reluctance to face how dearly he wanted such a thing. He always knew Kakashi was his person, his man of destiny; now, trembling with confusion and love and ardent desire does he allow himself to fully open his heart to what that means.

He wants to cry, and so he does because he’s always been of the school that physical expression is the greatest of all joys. Kakashi’s passion flames and he moves his mouth to lick the salt trails on Gai’s cheeks, arching his body forward, nudging them into movement until Gai’s back hits the apartment wall, grinding forward into him with desperate groans, hands roaming more fully and freely than anyone has ever touched him before. People have desired his body of course, but their want paled to the reality of Kakashi’s grasping hands; gripping as if he could press them together and become one entity through sheer will.

Gai feels sedate in comparison, touching Kakashi slowly, reverently; wanting so badly to know his friend’s thoughts, but also knowing asking will get him nothing. If Kakashi wanted him to know, he would say. But the lust pouring into his veins isn’t enough to quell the doubts and questions ringing through his head.

Gai.” He thinks he makes a sound of acknowledgment, but it gets overshadowed by a loud groan as Kakashi shifts his hips tightly into the V of his legs. Panting, he turns to see Kakashi watching him with both eyes, the sharingan swirling lazily. Gai looks away instantly, at Kakashi’s wet swollen mouth which quirks with a crooked smile that is all smug and sexy. “I can feel you worrying. This isn’t new, wanting you. Sometimes it’s nice to build tension.”

“For twenty years rival?” Kakashi snorts, nosing under Gai’s jaw to lap at his Adam’s apple.

“You wanted me when I was five then?” Gai tries to think through his melting brain, Kakashi’s hips swiveling and pushing constantly now.

“We have always been close, it seems strange that…this, has not come up sooner.” Kakashi nods.

“I’ve known for a while now, that when it did, it would mean forever. No harm in taking it slow.” Gai’s hands are suddenly on Kakashi’s shoulders, pushing him back enough to look into his friend’s smiling, oddly serious face.

“Is that what you want?” Kakashi cocks an eyebrow, but the eyes underneath soften.

“If you don’t mind a healthy dose of sex thrown in, then I don’t think it will be much different than what we’ve had for years.” Gai wants to argue that just the knowledge that Kakashi wanted that kind of a relationship with him made all the difference in the world! But then he catches up to the fact that his rival, his friend, his love, is implying that he views their connection with as deep an intensity as Gai always has. Joy and love flood all his senses and he reels with it.

Yes.” He manages to force through clenched teeth before pulling Kakashi’s mouth back to his.
