Molly

Summary:

When tragedy rocks the Quest compound, Johnny remembers.

Notes:

This was written sometime while The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest was airing. Depending on when this was written and when FFN started to disallow songfics, this might or might not have been posted to FFN. Obviously it's no longer there.

Disclaimer: The song is by Sponge and the characters are by HB. Chalk this fic up to too much free time in front of the register and too few customers. And, anyone else feel this song was a sad one or is it just me? E-mail me with an answer.

I see you naked in the bath

Cigarette stains on your hands

[Johnny burst into the bathroom where a soot, ash, and dirt stained Jessie yells at him to leave. Johnny gazes longingly at the toilet then leaves after a washcloth hits him squarely in the face.]

Wilted flowers in a vase

I asked how are you

Yeah how are you

[A vase of old wildflowers pulls back to reveal Johnny trying to talk to Jessie after the events in 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea.]

I see your lipstick on your glass

I think you're drunk and start to laugh

[Johnny stealthily picks up stray glasses and plates as Jessie and a group of other girls mess around in front of the TV]

I find your note and the letters ran

And it said I love you

Yeah I love you

[Johnny picks up a textbook half-hazardly when a note falls out of it. He picks up the note and begins to read the written conversation between two female teens, tears falling down his cheek.]

Don't ask why, don't ask why

Don't ask why, don't ask why

Don't ask why, don't ask why

Don't ask why

[Johnny walks into an empty room, still clutching the note. He takes a look around and sees that the room is just how she left it. He sits on the bed and weeps.]

Sixteen candles down the drain.

[The really bad and tangled remains of a blue minivan can be seen tinted with the blue and red flashing lights of emergency vehicles. Farther down, a gold Acura sparks from the use of the Jaws of Life. Beyond that lies a white Viper with a lamp post where the engine should be. A red haired cop shakes his head sadly as he gives the order to cordon off the area.]

I watch you passed for a while

I touch your face and start to smile

[Johnny walks up to a napping Jessie after they got back to the Quest compound; the events of Ghost Quest not fully purged. He gently trails his fingers across her brow, then leaves before she could walk up.]

And on your note is my reply

I wish I loved you

I wish I loved you

[Johnny places the note he found on a mahogany coffin. Under the blurry blue and black lines of loose script is a few lines in clear, red, print with Johnny's signature underneath them.]

Don't ask why, don't ask why

Don't ask why, don't ask why

Don't ask why, don't ask why

Don't ask why

[Race, Estella, and Benton sit around a paper strewn table with coffee. Race is about ready to fly into a rage, Estella looks about five seconds away from breaking down and crying. Benton looks about ten years older and tries to get the others to put aside their grief and anger and make the final preparations.]

[EMTs finally get a woman out of the gold Acura, and the police have custody of the barely hurt driver of the white Viper. The red-haired officer slowly walks to the mangled van. One pale small human hand lies outside the driver side doorway of the van. As the instrumental plays we see the ambulance carrying the woman form the Acura, and the marked police car with the driver from the viper head off.]

Don't ask why, don't ask why

Don't ask why, don't ask why

Don't ask why, don't ask why

Don't ask why

[The red headed officer walks up to a uniformed officer standing by the wreck of the van. “It's such a shame she got taken so young.” “You got an id on her yet?” “Yeah,. I wouldn't want to be the one to tell her folks though.” “You and me both.” A quiet ambulance pulls up. A number of EMTs get out with a stretcher and the ominous black body bag.]

[Race opens the door to find two plain clothes officers. One is holding a driver's license up for identification/information. Race pales at the site of them. The three of them talk while Johnny walks up quietly. As the instrumental plays, cut to the graveyard. Flowers are surrounding the grave. Hadji tries to help Race console a grief-stricken Estella as they walk from the grave. Johnny and Benton stand at the grave, Benton's are around his sons somber shoulders. “Dad, how could this happen? She was barely sixteen.”]
