Work Text:
Ryanne and Brenda worked at the same mall, but Ryanne called Brenda out sick early in the morning. The girl had woken up regressed in the middle of the night, throwing up, and just all together miserable. Ryanne made sure she had breakfast and told her to call her in case of an emergency before leaving.
Right now, Ryanne was on her lunch break. It wasn't a busy day at the mall, being Monday and all, so she decided she'd have her lunch in the food court. Just as she sat down to start eating, she recieved a call from Brenda.
Ryanne looked around. Yes, there weren't nearly as many people here as there would be on the weekend, but still enough that they would hear her.
As fast as she could, Ryanne got her cup of shitty mall pretzel bites and ran off to the employee's bathroom just to be sure, she was really, really scared of being heard. Once she had locked the door, she picked up the call.
"Mama," Brenda whined, "Threw up again."
Ryanne sat down. "How long ago was this, baby?"
"Um," Brenda took a second to speak, then gave her answer. "Minute."
"I'm assuming it's the breakfast, then.. try not to have anything like chips or candy, stick to fruit and water or milk right now, okay? Do you have your sippy?"
"Finished it."
"Go into the fridge and get Mama's water bottle to refill it. I bought a new jug of chocolate milk as well, if you want that."
"Noo," she whined again. "I want Mama to do it. I want Mama."
Ryanne thought for a moment, well, not really. She took the chance to leave work when she saw it.
"I'm gonna be home in a second, okay? I'll run to the store and get you some medicine, and I'll just order something tonight, sweetheart."
"Kay," she whispered. "Love you."
"I love you more, baby."
Ryanne had pulled into the driveway about 20 minutes after she clocked out. She just told her boss she needed to take Brenda to the doctor, and he bought it. She got Brenda some cherry-flavored shit, and luckily for them, they had gotten coupons for the pizza place in town in the mail. She set her bag on the kitchen counter and looked around for the other girl. She wasn't on the living room couch like she was in the morning, so she had to be in their room.
Sure enough, she was on their shared bed, watching something on Cartoon Network. She had her pacifier in, and there was a box of crayons and a coloring book at the foot of the bed.
"Oh.. hi, baby," she cooed, sitting down next to her. "How are you feeling, hm?"
Brenda didn't respond, but she nuzzled her head into Ryanne's shoulder.
"Hey, precious? I'm gonna get you a new trash bag and some fruit, okay? We need to wash your paci as well. It's probably icky. Just while you're eating, honey."
Brenda let Ryanne take her pacifier and trashcan, and she was soon back with the trash bag replaced and a plate of fruit. Her pacifier was soaking in a bowl of warm, soapy water.
"Here you go, baby," Ryanne said, putting the plate down on the nightstand. "Were you coloring earlier, sweet girl?"
Brenda nodded. She grabbed the the coloring book that was set at her feet, along with a box of crayons.
Ryanne tried to look over her shoulder while she flipped to a new page, most already colored in. Brenda leaned away when she noticed.
"When 'm done!" she stated, sitting in a direction where she was sure Ryanne couldn't see.
It had been like that for a bit, then Brenda tapped on Ryanne's shoulder.
"Mama," she whined, as she pushed the book towards Ryanne, "Look."
"Aww, it looks wonderful, baby. Do you wanna put-" Ryanne stopped when she heard the girl gagging.
She got Brenda to lean over the trash can again, and held her hair back while she got all of it out. She gave her a kiss and praised her for doing so good before she left to go grab the medicine.
"Noo," Brenda whined when she spotted what was in her girlfriends hands. "Icky, icky!"
"You gotta take it, Bren." Ryanne had a cup of water as well. "Open."
"No! Nooo-"
While Brenda was trying to yell, Ryanne had gotten the pills in her mouth and was rushing to get the cup to her lips so she didn't swallow dry.
"Swallow, swallow.. there you go, what a brave little baby, hm? That wasn't so bad," Ryanne doted on the girl, praising her and giving her small kisses.
"Do you think you can take down dinner?" Ryanne asked. Brenda shook her head.
"Alright, baby. We're gonna get our bedtime routine started, okay? Since you were such a brave little girl, Mama's gonna get you a gift and tomorrow we'll have take out. Now c'mon, lets get you in the bath."
After a nice bath for the girl, Brenda was laying on their bed in her towel while Ryanne picked out some pajamas. She found a pair of sweats and one of her own shirts, Brenda really liked wearing Ryannes clothes when she was little.
"Do you want me to dry off your paci?" Ryanne asked once she was all dressed.
Brenda perked up and nodded rapidly, tugging on Ryanne's sleeve to drag her toward the kitchen, to which she giggled. Brenda waited not so patiently next to Ryanne while she dried all the soapy water off of her pacifier, and snatched it from the girl once she was done.
Soon, the two girls were already tucked into bed. They laid together, cuddling for a minute or two, and then Ryanne decided to whisper Brenda a goodnight. But when she looked down, she was already out cold.
Kissing her temple, she whispered a small goodnight.
