While We Wait

Summary:

DISCLAIMER 4 HaDM Readers: This fic is set in my MCYT x The Hunger Games au, so without knowing it, it may be confusing, but I'm sure it's fun either way!

I have wanted to write something inspired by Hermit Master, inspired by Permit Master, inspired by Taskmaster. It was fun, but in the hunger games setting its always so hard to write such a silly guy as Joe :)

[Hermit-A-Day 5: Joe Hills]

Notes:

i dont really watch Joe Hills, he more so happens to me when i consume content, and thats how its meant to be but he feels like the kinda person who talks to themselves out loud...

Me too btw

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Joe was buzzing with excited energy as he rifled through their frankly ludicrously large clothes collection.

“Oh c’mon Joe! You have to find something! You own like every article of clothing ever in three colors.”

They were talking to themselves, which wasn’t unusual, especially when she was so frantic about something.

“It's ridiculous that you did not prepare anything to wear in advance. Damn you past Joe!”

He had been digging through his closet for almost an hour, tossing items of clothing all about the room, creating a gradient between least to most likely outfit that she could wear.

“Seriously, the first time I get invited as a player and not just guest and I cannot figure out what to wear, what do I do? Do I do funny? Cool? Natural? Ha! Definitely not natural…”

Capitol Master, one of the many game shows in which no child murder happened that the Gamemakers put on through the year while waiting for the next edition of the Life Games, to tie the spectators over. Arguably the most popular one and certainly Joe’s favorite since childhood.

“No! No! No? Or maybe yes? No, focus Joe! You can’t wear a green screen suit, you wore that the last time that you were there, that’s just silly, that is!”

The player's of Capitol Master were usually the Life Game District Escorts, with some occasional Victor sprinkled in for good measure, but they only had four player spots, so most of them had to beg for a spot, or be relegated to the position of special guest. Worst of all not to be included at all.

“Let’s see, what would FWhip enjoy? I wonder if he is more of a dress or suit guy…”

Joe wasn't picking hi colleagues at random too impress, FWhip was last years winner and therefore he was to be the Capitol Master this year, with Pix as his assistant. It was a fun role reversal but it also allowed the Capitol’s TV Anchor to keep an eye on the situation if the year’s host wasn't exactly capable of holding up their end if the bargain.

“But I don’t know what he likes, I’ve barely talked to the guy! How am I supposed to guess what he likes he’s never at any event! This is the only one he seems to show up too willingly! Argh!”

There now was only a minority of Joe’s clothes left still folded and hung properly, but at the very least the room was a whirlwind of color which made it evident that they weren't a boring person and that’s all she really wanted.

“That’s right! I need a gimmick! Pretend to be boring and the boom! Fun everywhere! Genius! You are a genius Joe!”

So the perfect outfit was born, at first glance he was wearing a simple navy blue suit, the kind that politicians and dignitaries might wear when trying to appear more serious. In reality the jacket could be flipped around to uncover the hidden side of rainbow paillette, the shirt was simple and white but would glow in the dark and the suit pants were actually tearaways which, once gone would reveal a skirt to match the jacket. All was obviously accompanied by her signature neon green glasses.

“Perfect.“
