Chapter Text
Asriel slowly opened his eyes. His head pounded and it felt like he’d been stabbed a hundred times. Everything felt weird. He couldn’t feel his legs, nor his arms for that matter. The last thing he could remember was his vision going white and hitting the ground, he wasn’t even supposed to be- HOW was he-?
As his eyes adjusted to the bright, yellow-ish light that shone in through the windows of the throne room he noticed something. He wasn’t himself anymore. He was different, trapped inside of new and different body. And it wasn’t until he looked down at himself that he fully understood what he had been turned into.
A flower. He was a.. flower?
How was this even possible? It shouldn’t have been, he should be dead. He should’ve been nothing but a pile of dust on the ground, yet here he was, alive somehow.
A thousand different thoughts spun around in his head as he observed the room he had spent countless of hours in, now feeling like a totally foreign place. The yellow flowers surrounded him, all of which looked almost identical to this new form. He took in every single detail like he was seeing it for the first time- the light yellow pillars decorating the walls, the vines making their way up and down said pillars, and the dust-laced flowers placed tightly around him.
Dust. Flowers shouldn’t be dusty.
That’s when it dawned on him. That was his own dust. That’s all that was left of him, all that was left of his old self.
Asriel should’ve been shocked. He should have cried like he always did, but he felt nothing. It was like an empty pit had formed in the space where his soul was supposed to be. He didn’t like it, he didn’t like it one bit.
“Please, h-help.. someone, anyone..!” No answer. Of course not, he was all alone.
“Please.. Chara..?”
Chara. The name left his mouth without him even thinking about it. He couldn’t understand why he’d called for them, it’s not like they would be able to help. Thinking about their name, Asriel again realised he still didn’t feel anything. No regret, no love, and no empathy for what had happened to them, just emptiness. He should have felt something, he should have felt bad about not being able to go through with their plan as expected, but instead he was left at a loss for words. He tried moving, but nothing happened. He didn’t even manage to nudge himself an inch, he just stayed in the exact same place as previously. All that he could do was turn his head and observe. And he did just that. Again, he started looking around. He thought about all the times him and his siblings had run around and played in this very room. The amount of times Chara had made him smile and laugh, as well as scare and made him cry. They always were the strongest of the two, anyway, there was no denying that.
The more he thought about Chara, the more he wondered where their body was. They were nowhere in sight, but judging by the fact that he could still see his own grey dust he couldn’t have been out for too long, right? Did he even carry them back down in the first place? Yes, he did, Asriel was certain about that.
He remembered everything. The buttercups, their last breath, the feeling of their warm, glowing soul merging with his own as he hugged their lifeless body, wishing so desperately for them to wake up. He remembered carrying them in his arms as he broke through the barrier, holding back as Chara was practically begging him to use his full power and he remembered the painful stabs of pitchforks and the hot fire that burned his skin and fur. The rest of the events leading up to his death were all the more blurry, all he could recall was making it back down the mountain before inevitably collapsing onto the flowerbed underneath him.
The more he thought about this entire situation, the more scared he got. Everything was too much, his head was spinning and he felt like he was about to implode and explode both at the same time. He couldn’t hold back the tears that were welling up in his eyes, and everything just came out all at once.
“Mom.. Dad..! Somebody help!” He cried out with newfound strength, but nobody came.
