The Power of Words

Summary:

Izuku Midoriya is no stranger to being ridiculed. Being laughed at by his classmates never quite hurt as much as when it was Katsuki Bakugo. His former friend. They had known each other since they were little. Izuku had always looked up to Katsuki, but Katsuki looked down on him for being Quirkless. One day, Katsuki took the bullying too far.

To sum it up: Deku actually tries to commit suicide after the incident with Bakugo.

Notes:

Hi! Thanks for reading! This is my first time posting, and I’m just testing the waters here. I might not continue to post, but enjoy!

TW for the first few chapters: suicide is discussed/referenced.

Also I DO NOT allow my work to be reposted or translated without express permission from me, the author.

Please feel free to comment especially if it’s about music and songs you think represent the chapters!

Chapter 1: nightmares each week about that friday in may

Notes:

The song that I think represents this chapter is ‘the grudge’ by Olivia Rodrigo 😌 so listen to it if you have a second to!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“Go take a swan dive off the roof! Maybe you'll get a Quirk when you’re reborn!” Katsuki yells, spitting in Izuku’s face. Izuku stands there in shock. The corners of his eyes prickle with tears, but he wills them not to fall. Not in front of Katsuki.

“W-why would y-you-”

“Shut up, Deku. No one wants to hear your stupid ass voice anymore. Just fuck off.” Katsuki walks out of the room, laughing cruelly. “You’ll never amount to anything more than a stupid extra.”

Left alone in the classroom, Izuku finally lets himself cry. Katsuki had never gone this far before. They used to be friends. Friends. Wiping the tears from his face, Izuku pulls out an empty notebook from his backpack. Tears splattering the page, he begins to write.

‘Mom, I love you. It’s not your fault. Kacchan was right about me. Being Quirkless won’t get me anywhere. I’m doing this for my sake and yours. I love you.’

He finishes the note, his tears somewhat stopping. He takes a deep breath and tears out the paper. He shoves it in his backpack and trudges out of the classroom, having already decided his fate.

The roof deck of his apartment building is windy and cold. Izuku shivers, rubbing his arms.

“Am I really doing this?” he asks aloud. Memories of Katsuki yelling and trying to hurt him flash through his head, making tears well in his eyes. “Yes. I am.” His voice shrinks to a whisper. “I’m sorry, Mom. I wish I wasn’t such a failure.”

He steps closer to the ledge, swallowing his guilt and tears. At the very edge, he closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, and lets gravity take hold.

Notes:

Hey, thanks for reading! I know this chapter is mega short, but I’ll do my best to write more in the future! Chapter 2 is already posted ✨
