Chapter Text

THUD.

The final boss in Mukouda's team's first urban dungeon fell to the floor, dead. Contrary to their expectations, they weren't the first adventurers down here, they were the second.

Mukouda didn't really care. His team, on the other hand, did.

"How dare someone beat the boss before me! A Fenrir! Come on Sui, Dora-Chan, let's give them a taste of our anger"

"Yeah!!!!" Dora-Chan and Sui agreed in excitement.

His three familiar's attacked before Mukouda could protest.

The pair seemed surprised that someone had entered. Let alone a Fenrir, a pixie dragon, and a slime, with a human in tow. Fel, Sui, and Dora-Chan attacked quickly.

Instead of two piles of dead human, Mukouda saw a woman in a black double layered cloak, with the first layer ending just below her shoulders and the second longer layer ending around the upper thigh. Her arms coming out between the layers. Her dropped metal staff was laying in front of her and her hands were in front of her in a protective gesture. The man was wearing leather armor protecting his torso and upper legs while leaving his arms exposed besides the fabric from his long sleeves. He was tense and ready for a second fight.

Fel and Dora-Chan were pawing at the barrier while Sui was blasting it with water bullets.

"Aren't the rules supposed to be you wait until the previous person is done with the boss before entering?" The man asked his companion.

"Probably. Can you help me." the woman replied, pointing at Fel with her head.

"I'll take the other two." the man said, before his hands alit in flames. He ran close to Sui and Dora-Chan, scratching when he got close. Dora-Chan nimbly dodged out of his flaming hands, while Sui threw themselves out of harm's way. Before Fel could react, the woman set up a flame barrier separating Fel from the other two familiars and the exit.

It was a slow battle between the two familiars and the opposing man. Neither could get a hit on the other. As the battle raged on, the man slowed a lot more having to defend against two enemies.

"The ultimate defense is a good offence! Flame Armor!" The man quickly yelled in a brief lull in  battle. His entire body erupted in flames eliciting a yelp from Mukouda. He had snuck in trying to injure the man, which would have quickly ended the battle, and would have protected Sui. Which However, it also brought him really close to the flames.

"Mukouda!" Fel yelled, bursting through the flame wall getting singed in the process. Slamming the man across the room with his body. The flames quickly snuffing out as he fell unconscious.

"Ragnar!" the woman yelled, running over to check on her unconscious friend. Her hands went to his head and glowed for a bit before being removed after Ragnar opened his eyes. Ragnar groaned as he got up, standing in front of the woman who seemed a bit dazed. She was whispering something, and Ragnar seemed worried but took a step towards Mukouda.

"WAIT!" Dora-Chan yelled, stopping the tense atmosphere, and the woman's muttering stopped. "Fel, that man's a dragon, we can't kill him."

"Why? You suddenly feel a connection to your kind?" Fel growled.

"No. I got burned, and only fire from a greater dragon can burn a pixie dragon. Mukouda might not make it, especially with that woman's fire enhancing spell.”

"So, that's what she was muttering. Hmph." Fel sat, and thought for a bit, before relenting, "You may be right Dora-Chan. Perhaps I will grant you mercy. You have learned your lesson of attacking the final boss before me." Fel said to the pair across the room.

“Yeah, th-thanks for teaching us,” Ragnar said, “come on, let’s leave while we can.”

The pair made their way to the final teleportation sigil, picking up the dropped goods on the way.

Wait.” Fel stopped the pair, “We will go with you, I do not want to wait a week for the new boss monster to spawn.”

Mukouda’s team took their usual position while the pair leaned on Fel from the ground. Fel put his magic through the magic circle and they made it to the exit of the dungeon.

As soon as everyone left, all the adventurers in the dungeon’s entrance stared at them mouths agape. As Mukouda’s team went to leave, they were stopped. The guildmaster had to arrive to get modern information on the dungeon.

“Mukouda~!” Elrand yelled, “I knew you could do it!”

“Umm, sorry to disappoint you but it wasn’t us.”

“What?!?”

“Yeah, those two were the ones who beat the final boss.”

Elrand looked at the pair, shocked. “I guess you two follow me. I have questions for you.” he said glumly. He looked to Mukouda and gleefully added, “When you’re done, I can buy the dungeon’s drops off of you!”

As Mukouda was leaving the entrance, Elrand called out to him. “Wait up! Those two have the worst sense of direction and time I have ever seen. I need your help on the layout. Those two said there’s a swamp and a desert, but don’t know what floor they would be on.”

“Oh, um sure. So the swamp was on floor 28 and the desert was immediately after that. Then the boss room, but I don’t know what kind of monster it was.”

“That’s okay, I’ll have all of you in my office and we can discuss the dungeon together.”

Mukouda tried to protest, but somehow ended up in Elrand’s office with his three familiars and the pair on the couch next to him.

The woman introduced herself as Melissa, and the guy was Ragnar. They both seemed disinterested in the meeting and Mukouda, who was used to at least glances his way from everybody. Until the topic of buying goods came up, where they offered their goods up to be sold. Elrand had a soft spot for Mukouda though, and they would have to wait until Mukouda had sold his stuff, in order to sell their own stuff.

Notes:

I got too invested in the fight scene lol.
