A Borer in the Axis

Summary:

The people of Mayfair filled the space joyously, the married pairs enjoying a night of revelry as the new season began, the unmarried ones hoping to make an impression that would guarantee their happiness.

Sophie stood at its center, a fascinated observer of the carefully controlled chaos that came with the London season.

Notes:

After about 2 months of me sitting on this idea I have decided to try and put my rambles to metaphorical paper. This is based on that one off hand comment the queen makes at the end of season 4 about Sophie being the diamond. I'll try to get the first formal chapter out soon, and also not dissapear cause I really like this concept.

I have not read the books so this is purely based off the show canon (which I may or may not completely ignore).

Title is from an Emily Dickinson poem

Chapter Text

Dearest gentlereader,

Winter has once again given way to spring, and the warming air the esteemed members of our precious Ton have made the journey from the countryside to their Mayfair homes to begin a new season of courtship, where the young ladies of London hope to find an ideal match. This season, every young lady has her eye set on Mayfair’s most eligible bachelor, Benedict Bridgerton, who is sure to make an appearance at the first ball, hosted by Lady Violet Bridgerton herself.

Although Lady Bridgerton’s masquerade is sure to be pulled straight from a fairytale dream, this author has to wonder if this is the year Mr. Bridgerton will settle, fulfilling the hopes and dreams of one lucky girl. Lady Bridgerton has faced remarkable success in the marriage mart, securing perfect matches for four of her children in as many years. Will she be adding one more victory to her repertoire, or will Mr. Bridgerton extend his bachelorhood another year…
