Chapter Text
You were backstage, ready to start another show at the bar. Still, you loved this job but you couldn't help but admit that it was exhausting at times.
“Y/N, two minutes!” One of the waiters screams at you, closing the curtains after.
Singing. It was your dream ever since you were a child. Everyone said that you had the voice of an angel. Yet, you ended up here… a bar.
The reality struck you, it was never meant to be like this. You were supposed to be singing at a big stadium with flashing lights and an audience filled with all types of benders.
A place where you wanted to unite people through music even if they were different from each other.
Not a bar!
But, you had to face the grueling truth. “It's better than nothing.” You mumble to yourself and prepare to perform again. It's a start, you think to yourself. One day, you won't be singing at a bar… so just bear it for now.
“Are you ready Y/N?” Your manager says, her eyes filled with awe. She had always admired the way you sounded and offered this job to you, without her, where would you even be?
You stand up and face her.
“Yes, always am.” You smile, turning to the curtains.
You hear the loud chanting of the audience, “Y/N! Y/N! Y/N!” The cheers encourage you while you get your stage face on.
Your hands push the curtains away as you start to sing with a fire entrance, literally.
Fire spewed out of your mouth as you sang, it was a unique trait of yours which people loved.
The audience watched in awe while you sang.
Dancing with energy on the stage while interacting with some of the people in the audience when you could.
“I LOVE YOU!” A young man screams in the crowd, you grin and wink at him.
The crowd erupts into cheers, you always had the charms. Your appearance, your voice and your firebending all worked together to make your presence on the stage light up.
Fire continued to come out of your mouth, you could control it only using singing. It was precise, each note controlled how big the fire would be.
Then, you saw her.
A girl in earthbending clothes.
She was shorter than others but that didn't stop you from spotting her in the crowd. She was so beautiful and her eyes were cloudy but that drew you in closer.
Her face looked familiar but you couldn't grasp where you saw it from…
You almost stopped singing because you were so focused on the earthbender, you've never seen her before in the audience so why not try to make her a daily visitor by doing some fanservice?
The crowd continued to sing along with you.
You jumped down the stage, something that you've never done before in your whole time being a singer.
A few people gasped and tried to catch your attention. Still, you focused on the girl you spotted earlier. You made your way into the audience and held out your hand while singing.
“May I?” You whisper, avoiding the microphone so the audience wouldn't hear you.
The girl smiled and took your hand. Together, you dance as you continue to sing beautifully. The two of you sway gracefully together.
You spin her hand, pulling her waist closer to you while her gray eyes look up at you and the lights make her skin shimmer, her lips glowing as well.
“You're…” You open your mouth to flirt but the sound of people whispering stops you.
“Who is she?” A guy whispers in the crowd.
You've almost forgotten that you were still performing and everyone's eyes were on the both of you.
It was disheartening that the dance had to end so soon with the girl.
You were only starting to bore into her eyes, your hands resting on her hips and the dance wasn't even complete yet.
It's like time slowed down as you continued to dance with her. For the first time, the loud noises and cheers were gone and the only thing you could focus on was her.
Still, you had an audience to satisfy.
You let go of her hand sooner than you wanted to. Silently, you pray that she won't leave early.
The rest of the performance continued as usual but with the mysterious earthbender still on your mind. But, you had to put her on the side first to continue your job smoothly.
Then, it was time for the high note.
You prepare mentally, knowing that it was a bit difficult to pull off. Your chest starts to heat up and blue fire bursts from your mouth while you hit the note. The atmosphere becoming hotter than usual.
The crowd pauses.
Then, they broke out into cheers and applause. You pant, while holding out your hands. You took a moment to breathe then you bow and leave to head backstage.
The waiters in the bar hand you cups of water.
“Thank you.” You thank them as some of the staff in the bar overloaded you with compliments as usual. “This is one of the few times we get to see your blue fire, Y/N!” The cook smiles.
You sit down in your own private booth.
It was a place to rest for the performers, which was you and you always stayed here after your performances.
Suddenly, your memory flashes with the girl you were dancing with earlier. You stand up and one of the guards stares at you.
“Sir, did you see an earthbender earlier in the crowd?” You walk up to him, nervous that the mysterious girl left.
“Yes, she asked to meet you but I said that you were busy…” He looks down in guilt. You put your hands on your head, cursing yourself for not remembering earlier. Maybe she hasn't left yet..
You ran outside backstage and some of your fans tried to block you, asking for your signature.
“Sorry, not right now!” You politely reject and look around for someone in earthbending clothes. Then, you saw someone who looks just like her and turned her shoulder around to face you.
Unfortunately, it wasn't her.
Instead, it was a man who looked confused just as you. “Need something?” He raises his eyebrow, looking a bit flustered.
You apologize, turning your back away and walking back to your rest area. Sighing, until you felt a hand on your shoulder.
Thinking that it was a fan, you push it away while getting ready to scold them for touching you without consent. Instead, it was the mysterious girl you danced with earlier.
“Ow, someone doesn't like being touched.” She says, caressing her hand.
“I'm so sorry! I thought you were a pervert or something…” You try to explain but her expression remained unamused.
“I'll make it up to you, I'll buy you a drink.” You grin, hoping that she would forgive you. She stares at you, thinking about the offer. “That sounds good to me.” She chuckles and punches your shoulder.
You lead her backstage and the two of you sit in your booth.
“So… I enjoyed our dance earlier.” You mutter, tracing the glass bottle. A waiter comes up and gives the girl her drink.
“The fans definitely enjoyed us together.” You smirk, starting to bore again into her gray eyes. Then, you suddenly put the pieces together and came up with the conclusion that she's probably blind.
You stare at her, wondering where you saw her from.
Was she a past fan? No. It couldn't be, you memorized most of the people who came here occasionally and you've never seen her face in the crowd.
Even if she was a past fan, her attractiveness would've caught your attention before.
“My name’s Toph Beifong.” She says and sips her drink. You spit out your wine and gasp, “That's where I remember you from…”
Toph smirks, not daring to look up at you.
