Work Text:

Golden Cheese had always enjoyed going to clubs and bars with Hollyberry, but there was one reoccurring problem.

Men.

Now, Golden Cheese had no problem with men in general, because some of them were actually rather bearable! Pure Vanilla was just the sweetest, and Dark Cacao was something of a gentleman, but those two were her friends. Seeing some random guys leaning across the counter to flirt with the girl SHE had her eye on!? Not fun!

It had been happening more and more recently, namely when Hollyberry was in her awakened attire. Even if no one dared to bother the two when they talked, Golden Cheese knew they were stealing glances when they thought she wasn't looking.

Who could blame them? She found herself admitting. I would be too, if I wasn't sitting right next to her.

However, something about how Hollyberry reacted to the flirtation lately was very... off. Usually, she'd just wave her hand and thank them, or smile and nod, because that was exactly who she was. Oblivious; much too polite to be firm with anyone, no matter how insistent. But over the last few weeks, her responses had gotten harsher.

"Leave us alone," With tense shoulders.

"Can't you see we're in the middle of something?" Through set teeth.

"Go find someone else to bother," While pushing them away.

She had, undoubtedly, put her foot down, and Golden Cheese found it to be a HUGE turn on completely respected it! Though it did make the goddess wonder... what changed? Why the sudden intolerance? It wasn't like her friend at all.

This time, She swore to herself. This time, I'll look out for the signs. Figure out what's ticking in that woman's head.

Standing alone in her lavish bedroom, she stood examining her dress for the night. It was certainly eye-catching: puffed out ruffles, sequins and all. Of course, Golden Cheese wasn't wearing such a gorgeous outfit to please anyone but herself! Though, if her ally took an interest in it, that wouldn't be all too bad either.

You finally have a chance. That Beast is gone, and you finally have a chance. Don't blow it, you can't blow it.

It's just three words.

***

"GOLDEN CHEESE COOKIE!!" Hollyberry called, waving her arms frantically to catch her friend's attention (as if the sound of her unnaturally loud voice wasn't enough). She was sat at a booth near the bar, two sparkling glasses of juice on the table.

Golden Cheese took her time walking over, subconsciously scanning the gathered cookies for any potential threats to her beauty (of course, there were none). Having caught sight of the goddess' dazzling dress, Hollyberry had to stop herself from gawking, and Golden Cheese stifled a grin.

"You look..." She began, eyes trained on her ally as she sat down.

Pretty? Beautiful? Gorgeous? Hot?

".... great!! Nice outfit choice."

Dammit.

"I know I do," Golden Cheese replied, a little snappier than intended, fiddling with her hemline. "I see you're wearing... a cape. Classy."

"Har-har, okay, funny guy!" Hollyberry chuckled, pulling her hood back to reveal her vibrant pink hair in a long braid. "I'm just trying not to attract unwanted attention, for once. I see you went quite the opposite route."

"What can I say? I'm just naturally perfect."

Her friend laughed again, taking a swig of the drink in her hand. Mercifully, the night went on like that for about half an hour. Both of them chatting and playfully flirting (keep in mind the less than playful intentions on Golden Cheese's side, however), and seeing who could down the most juice in one gulp.

Though, unfortunately, the inevitable was indeed proven to be... inevitable.

Approaching their booth was a poorly dressed cookie with messy icing and the kind of look in his eyes that tells you he's just had a few too many drinks. Hollyberry pulled her hood over her eyes.

"Good luck, Goldie," She whispered. "That's why you don't wear such an eye-catching gown to a simple bar."

He, as expected, slammed his hands down in front of them, leaning a little too close for comfort. And he certainly was not looking at Golden Cheese. "Heyy, pretty lady... what's with the cloak? You got anything on under there?"

The goddess smirked, though something inside was so very done with pretending to find this amusing. "Don't think he's here for me, Huntress."

Hollyberry mouthed a frustrated oh shut up, putting on the most genuine fake smile she could muster. "Haha! Would be funny if I didn't...! Ha ha..."

"Pfft- you've got humour too, huh? I like that. What say I buy you a drink, and we talk a little?"

Golden Cheese scrunched her nose so indignantly that her ally had to stifle a laugh. "I'm... I'm right here. Am I not... am I not right here?"

"He's old school, this one," Hollyberry whispered, eliciting a giggle in return, before turning back to the man and managing an awkward chuckle. "You're very... handsome, sir, but, sadly, I must decline the offer."

"Why's that?" He sneered, pulling her hood back so forcefully that she had to steady herself against the booth's seats.

"Hey-!" Hollyberry yelped, shield held defensively by her side. Even so, something inside her seemed to buckle at the malice gleaming in his eyes. "Look, I-"

"Dude, back up," Golden Cheese snapped, flaring out her right wing to push him backwards. "She's not interested."

"And why's that, bitch?" The man repeated, hackles raised. Boy, he really was drunk. "I don't see a proper reason for the blow-off I'm getting."

Clearly, this one wasn't going to take a simple "no" for an answer. Golden Cheese fiddled for an excuse, tapping her heel on the floor to speed up her thinking. "Well, uhm..." Without any further consideration, she blurted out "She's taken!"

Hollyberry nearly did a double take.

"What?" He took a step back, eyebrow raised. "I don't see the guy here."

Oh boy.

Guess that's my cue.

And with that, Golden Golden pushed herself over the table, cupped her ally's chin and pulled the queen in for a very impromptu, very passionate kiss. Hollyberry, on the receiving end, squeaked embarrassingly loudly into the other's mouth. Luckily, she quickly clocked the tactic, and returned the gesture with equally as much vigour. Stars burst behind the goddess' eyelids, and she wondered why she'd never done this before.

(Maybe because they weren't actually dating, but still)

Embarrassed beyond words, the man slowly began backing away, scarpering back over to the bar and tripping on his own feet.

Golden Cheese smirked into the kiss. Mission accomplished!- hold on.

I'm... I'm kissing-

"AYE-!" She squealed, pulling herself back so frantically that she banged her head against the wall in the process. "I-I'm sorry, I panicked, I just-"

"That was nice."

The goddess stopped short, face flushed around about the same shade as a tomato. "It...? Really?"

Hollyberry laughed heartily, delighting in her friend's flustered demeanor. "Was that actually an excuse, or was that your strange way of confessing your love to me?"

"... either-or, I suppose."

"How funny! In that case..."

She tilted Golden Cheese's head up with a finger, leaning forward to capture her lips once more, an action that had the latter shaking with enjoyment. They stayed like that for a little while, edging themselves closer together on the seats so the kiss could be deepened even further, hands wrapped loosely around the other's waist.

How amusing it was to prove undisputably that the Radiant Queen always gets what she wants.

Such a lucky cookie.

Notes:

I lost motivation near the end (hopefully it's not too obvious)

They should kiss and make out and shit idk
