Look at the Stars, Look How They Shine for You

Summary:

It’s the perfect time of day, the sun still sparing one more glance over the horizon before letting the moon shine by itself. The clouds drift calmly through the air. The stars are really the main attraction.

Work Text:

It’s rather beautiful, how easily hands fit together. A simple act of intimacy. A gentle comfort. A pull, a tug to bring your lover to see the world with you. Not always to see the whole world. Sometimes, just the night sky.

Jon had found this gorgeous view in this ‘Somewhere Else’. It was through a path in the woods, unseen by most because of the vines protecting it, like a moat in front of a castle. His hand is wrapped around Martin’s, who is asking him what they could be doing this late in the evening. Jon doesn’t ignore him, but he just tells him that it’ll be worth it, to not worry, that nothing bad will happen to them. He’s telling the truth. He could never let something bad happen to Martin. Never again.

Jon smiles, seeing the end of the path coming up. “You’re not going to regret coming with me.”

“Couldn’t it have been earlier?” Martin sighs, slowing down. Jon matches his pace.

“Nope. You’ll see, Martin. It’s worth it.”

He uses his hand to push the vines at the end out of the way. He walks out of the woods, looking around. It’s a small cranny surrounded by a short, grey brick wall. More vines crawl around the top, and the breeze is lightly blowing Jon’s hair into his eyes, which he brushes away. The grass is overgrown, and there are some flowers peeking out from beneath them.

Jon pulls Martin to the wall and swings his legs over. He pats his hand next to him. “Sit.”

Martin sits. His legs are crossed, and he leans back onto his hands. Without Jon’s prompting, Martin immediately knows to look to the sky.

It’s the perfect time of day, the sun still sparing one more glance over the horizon before letting the moon shine by itself. The clouds drift calmly through the air. The stars are really the main attraction. They are somehow all kinds of colours, splattered across the sky. They’re breathtaking. You couldn’t look away, even if you wanted to. Jon’s eyes automatically dart around, looking to find the brightening constellations he recognizes. He sees them every time he comes out here. But it’s different this time. This time, Martin is here.

He looks over at Martin, whose face is almost glowing from the dying sun. His light grey eyes are facing up, his mouth open slightly in a gasp. He sees Martin’s hands move to feel the vines that seem to have moved to make a place for him to sit.

“Pretty nice, huh?” Jon smiles, his eyes still on the man.

“Yes. God, I —” Martin lets out a small laugh, for no particular reason. “Look at the sky, Jon. Look at the sky.”

Jon laughs too. He puts his head on Martin’s shoulder, not wanting to look at the sky. Not wanting to look anywhere but Martin. “It’s so beautiful, isn’t it?”

Martin grabs Jon’s hand. They fit together so perfectly. Jon rubs his thumb in circles on Martin’s wrist, turning his head to look back at the stars. There aren’t any eyes out there this time. Just stars. “It is beautiful.” Jon says decisively, in answer to his own question. “So very beautiful.”

I’ve had this fic stuck in my head even before I listened to episode 200, so it feels great to finally write it down
