Later, at the bonfire, Elliot found Emma. the music was slowing down, couples were pairing off and finding their place to sway in time, arms around each other .
They fell into place somewhere close enough to feel the bonfire’s warmth but far enough away that the heat wasn’t overwhelming.
“I’m so glad it’s over,” Emma confided, relief written clear on her face.
“You were wonderful though,” Elliot assured her. “Everyone else was great but your singing stole the show.”
“So you keep telling me,” she replies with a small giggle, cheeks turning pink- not from the fire’s heat.
“I keep telling you because it’s true,” Elliot asserted and then as if to add punctuation to his words, leaned forward til their lips were brushing, and she was pressing against him with a soft sigh.
