Burn to Ashes

Summary:

"This place is a lie, a forgery founded on blood and ashes and, your so called happiness was payed for with suffering and regret" the monster purred from armoured lips.

Something of a speculative one shot where we see what happens when a very unhinged Sun reveals a big secret about the Sanctuary.

Work Text:

Sun liked to think he had seen the worst of himself that the Multiverse had to offer.

That, at best, in one universe he was a broken toy that had become a servant of one of the family's worst enemies due to unimaginable torment by said enemy. A sad fate yes but, one with context, that you could understand and pity.

On the other hand there were creatures like KS and Dark Sun.

Yes, perhaps KS had been someone decent at one point; a little damaged perhaps before whatever abuse he had suffered at his own Moon's hands had left wounds the shockwave of... certain events, had seen fit to twist into a demented killer of Moons. That, again, Sun might have been able to, not so much forgive as pity were it not for the fact that that same killer had tricked them at there more vulnerable moment to find a loop hole in his so called "morals". To find a way to murder Moon without actually plunging a blade through his core.

Were Sun a lesser, crueller version of himself... oh he would give into those dark thoughts that wished to make KS suffer in a heartbeat. Those dark thoughts that mussed and purred over the potential of their magic at its worse. The idea of taking their fire and making it an unending torment for the killer; to take what Dark Sun had forced him to do and make it last an eternity for this wretched excuse of a Sun.

But, Sun was not that sort of Sun and, he was most certainly not the enigma that Dark Sun had been. Oh he could not deny the man had had a "noble" dream but, even with the silence Sun had been forced to endure he could never forgive or forget what he had put him through.... what he had used him for.

Because Dark Sun certainly held no remorse for his actions.

Even with death approaching, Sun had felt the apology from his dark counterpart had been hollow and, simply by the numbers. That the suffering he had put Sun through, the monster he had made Nexus into and, the torment that resulted had been nothing more than the means to an end.

That a version of himself could be this callous and heartless had terrified Sun for what it said about himself should the wrong set of circumstances come into alignment.

However, faced with this new enemy; one who had the brothers and, much on the Sun Council bound before him Sun could safely say the Multiverse still had plenty of surprises where horror and showing off one's dark potential was concerned.

"You were banished from this place Tyrant!" to his credit Sebastian was putting up a noble effort against the magic enforced chains that bound him to the point one of the invader's guards had him now pinned under the butt of a flaming lance.

The display only seemed to amuse the armoured creature that was sitting, feet up on the council table "Ah Sebastian still the same old lion, all roar and no claw" the voice was more mechanical than most Suns. It was hard to tell if it was by design or, if the voice box had been damaged in the past and, was either beyond repair or, and Sun suspected this was more likely, the creature before them so no point in repairing the damage.

It was a voice that certainly matched the twisted body of a corrupt armoured knight.

"But, if you recall Sebastian, my banishment had.... conditions" those words came out with a disgusted sneer "The chief of which is now rotting in the ground" at those words Joy let out an outraged shriek "Don't you DARE talk about him!" Sun might have jumped back had his own bindings allowed it at the the display from Dazzle's teacher. He knew she and Dark seemly had a "bond" but, this sort of display certainly spoke some volumes compared to the brief interactions Sun had seen at the end.

Joy was glaring daggers at Tyrant "He took you.... took us all in.... saved us and how did you repay that kindness!?....." her words were cut off by a cold laugh from Tyrant "Kindness.... kindness.... oh you poor deluded creature" Tyrant turned an eye briefly to Sun "Dark Sun was many things my dear Joy but, kind...." he paused to mock wipe a tear from his charred black eye. "He was not without sin Tyrant, nobody is but, he meant well.... certainly tolerated you for a time" the headmaster's words were answered with a rough strike from the guard to his shoulder. Any further beating was avoided by a raised gauntlet from the captor.

"Dark Sun never tolerated me Sebastian, he simply sought to buy my silence but, unlike some here I am not so easily bought" Sun felt an icy chill run through his core at those words. It had to be a coincidence... the ravings of the jilted and the insane and, yet, another look told Sun an ugly truth that, had he the power to, would have him fleeing back to his original dimension if not further away to escape its gaze.

"You wanted to use the dragon to take back your world" Pixel spoke up from the other side of the room with a tone of disbelief and faint sympathy that had the creature turn its eyes to him next. There was an amused aura from the other being "Pixel, Pixel, I knew you could be a little slow but.... I would have thought that even you would have seen through such a lie" he ran fingers through his ornate rays has he looked over the council before his attention fell on Sun.

"But, then again I suppose a lie is sweeter than the bitter truth... am I right Sun?"

Sun wanted to be swallowed by the ground in that moment.

"Sun... what...whatever Tyrant is speaking of it is neither your concern or something you can trust" oh if Sebastian only knew, Sun thought with a chilly dread has the the armoured Sun got up from the table to approach him. His armour glinting in the low light with an aura of heat and rage that would make even the most ferocious of Moon's run in the opposite direction pretty quickly.

"You know when I learnt about you Sun, I was actually eager to meet you.... Dark Sun's chosen one" he chuckled "The one Sun who could do something that not even the mighty Dark Sun could achieve" there was mock admiration in his tone where Dark Sun was concerned. With a jerk of a gauntlet Sun was forced into a standing pose "Please.... they.... they don't need to know...." his words were met with a hand to the cheek, as soft as a caress but, with a light firmness that held a warning in its touch.

He would roast him in his own endo without a regret if Sun upset him.

"Curious... I would have thought you of all people would want the truth be known.... that you would be trying to shake every Sun here awake from this little fantasy" he shook his head "But, then again I suppose even the mighty Sun can be bought... I just did not think all it would take would be your daughter's education of all things" he sounded like a parent disappointed to hear their child had been caught shoplifting.

"Leave Dazzle out of this Tyrant" Joy spat before looking at Sun "Sun you cant trust anything this snake says, he burned half a district to ashes before Dark Sun stopped him" she gave the exile a look of contempt worthy of vermin "And all because Dark Sun said no to your dreams of conquest and domination" Tyrant's head turned with a sharp crack "With respect Joy.... be quite" the female Sun would not be silenced though.

"Dark Sun might not have been perfect but, he gave us this paradise, a sanctuary and a home and you... you wanted to pervert that dream... to taint his legacy with war..." if she could she would be rubbing at her face before staring up at the monster with scorn "He should have killed you when he had the chance" were is possible Tyrant would have smiled even wider "You poor deluded... child" he looked around the council before his eyes returned to Sun.

"Then again living in a lie does tend to warp ones views I suppose" forget the ground swallowing him whole Sun would throw himself into the maw of a Wither Storm than face this.

The truth was sharpening its claws and showing its teeth in hungry anticipation.

From his own position on the floor the gagged Moon's eyes widened in realisation; however all he could do was squirm and mutter helpless threats at this unhinged double of his brother. Tyrant seemed to have taken note of Moon's struggles, walking over to pat him on the head as if he were a dog that needed fuss "Calm now, it will be over soon enough Moon" another comforting pat "The truth will set you free after all" he looked up at the council "And, its only fair a Moon be here to witness the truth".

The Council looked completely lost.

Sun was not and, was dreading what came next.

"Truth? what are you talking about?" Sebastian's words might as well have been the death knell for the Sanctuary that Tyrant was happy to deliver "The truth of this place dear Sebastian is nothing but a fabrication" he kicked at the stone below him "This place is a lie, a forgery founded on blood and ashes and, your so called happiness was payed for with suffering and regret" the monster purred from armoured lips his attention turning to Sun. With a wave of his hand a magical hologram was formed of the worst moment in Sun's life.

"So Sun shall I tell them about Nexus or would you like to do the honours?"

End

Notes:

A one shot that really wanted to come out all in one go despite then ending getting a bit fudged. Then again it is best to strike while the iron is hot.

There is still no word on when Tyrant will appear but, for now I shall content myself with writing things like this.

That being said, despite the mechanical nature of his voice I do headcannon his voice sounding a little like that of Ricardo Montalbán.
