Birthday Surprise! (Soulmate AU#2)

Summary:

Soulmates swap bodies the day the youngest of the pair turns 17, if the soulmate is dead, nothing happens.

It is definitely not nothing that happens.

Or;
Shouta swaps bodies with Kurogiri, whatever happens afterwards, I don't know either, there is no plan here
(the #2 in the title is cause this is the second EraserCloud soulmate au# idea I have but I haven't posted the first one yet..)

Notes:

Hellooooo! Idk what you should expect from this, probably not much considering I wrote the first chapter within 45 minutes with barely any planning. I just know, I wanted a body swap fic because body swap, by beloved. And I needed something for Oboro's birthday (and since my other fanfic that focuses on Oboro is not getting a chapter today (I wanted to but I'm rewriting chapter 4 rn... that might come out soon though)) I just wrote this instead. I'm planning to have this fic complete within this week, next week at the latest but if you know me, I usually defenestrate my plans so don't expect that to be true.

Have Fun!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: The "Nothing" in question

Chapter Text

Soulmates swap bodies the day the youngest of the pair turns 17, that much is common knowledge. They then stay swapped until they come into contact with one another. If either of them are dead, the body swap does not happen.

If either are dead.

The Body Swap.

Should not happen.

Shouta knew very well his Soulmate, Oboro, was gone. Nothing should have happened on his birthday, he was supposed to spend the day with Hizashi for emotional support. (He was forced to attend a sleepover so he wouldn’t lock himself in his room again)

So considering that he just woke up in a bedroom that was very definitely not his own, Shouta had questions.

Those questions consisted of many swear words such as;

What the actual fuck?!

How the fuck!?

And more in similar manner.

He knew Oboro was his Soulmate, but he also knew that Oboro was dead so logically, nothing should have happened.

Sure there was always the small chance that he had another soulmate but the chances for that were small. And today was Oboro’s birthday, not Shouta’s so the hypothetical other soulmate having the same birthday as Oboro made the chances even smaller.

His head hurt and he was really not sure if it was because of whatever was happening, a regular headache or something else entirely.

The bedroom he was in was bare, no decoration or any personal items, just the furniture, exploring this building probably couldn't hurt..

Walking was going to be weird too no matter what since being in a different body meant dealing with different proportions and general weirdness, knowing that didn’t make it any less annoying though.

Trying to focus on his movements made that even worse. He could barely feel this body and at the same time felt it too much and too weirdly.

This entire body was made of some purple mist, a mutation quirk seeing as there was no solid body beneath the mist.

Again, knowing that did NOT make it less weird or annoying. The Sensory experience of going from a solid human body to being made of mist is absolutely not pleasant.

Somehow, he managed to figure out how to walk properly in this body and left the room. After walking through a hallway, the next room he finds is a bar of all things.

Ignoring the implications that his maybe-soulmate lives in a fucking bar, he had more important things to do because if Shouta wouldn’t find a coffee machine soon, this place will be turned upside down completely.

--------------------------

Kurogiri knows about the concept of soulmate body swaps of course, but he isn’t supposed to have a soulmate.

The doctor told him over and over again that he wasn’t a human. Only humans had soulmates and that should exempt him from it.

But it seemed like he did, otherwise he wouldn’t have woken up in a body so different from his own.

Someone else was there too, a guy with blond hair. He looked vaguely familiar too. (had Kurogiri met him before?)

The blond guy was talking to him, it would be impolite to interrupt him but there was this one question on his mind;

“Who are you?”

As soon as he asked, the other just stared at him, a mix of confusion and fear in his face as if he’s seen a ghost.
