Chapter Text
Arceus had a plan. It knew that Its children were going into frenzies in Hisui, and It knew the reason why. And It knew exactly who to send to fix it. However, human lives were intricate, complicated, and fragile things. It would need to handle this carefully if It was going to displace someone from their home. Unless... Arceus never fully removed the human from their home in the first place. If It could split the human in two - one to leave in their home, and one to place in Hisui - then there would be less strain on the human's life.
Right?

You wake up. You feel drowsy and disoriented, like being hit by a metaphorical train. Hopefully not a real one. You look around to gauge your surroundings. Immediately, you can tell that you're in a hospital bed. It's not as comfortable as your normal bed, and there's an IV hooked to your right arm and a pulse monitor on your finger. You don't remember being injured though. You look up and see your brother, Emmet, leaning over the end of the bed. He's sitting in a chair with his torso leaning over to let him lay across the bottom of the bed by your feet. You immediately feel relieved knowing he's there. Sitting up, and being mindful of the cords connected to you, you reach out and gently shake his shoulder. You do your best to whisper to wake him up.
"Emmet. Emmet, wake up."
He groans and opens his eyes, then he's suddenly awake as he smiles at you, relief written all over his face.
"Oh, thank the dragons you're okay! How do you feel? Are you hurt?" He sits up and moves to sit closer to you, allowing you to move back into the bed more comfortably.
Now that you're thinking about it, there is a soreness to your head, as if you had fallen down.
"My head is a bit sore. Nothing terrible, but still." You rub the back of your head where it hurts the worst. There's a slight bump.
"Well, I did find you passed out," Emmet says with a nod, seemingly expecting that answer. "But the doctors checked it out and you do not have a concussion. That is good."
"Emmet, what... what happened? We were at work, right?" You have vague memories of working the late shift with your brother, but other than that, your memories get hazy.
"We were working the late shift," Emmet confirms. "We checked the tunnels one last time to make sure no stray passengers traveled down there. We went down separate tunnels to get through them faster. Like usual."
You nod along. That sounds familiar.
"I could not find anything down the tunnels that I searched," Emmet continues. "So I turned back and called for you on the radio. But you did not answer. No matter how many times I called. So I came to find you. And you were unconscious. No one was around and there were no pokemon nearby. I have depot agents and police looking at the security footage to find out what happened. You don't remember anything, right?"
Your mind buzzes at the one word that Emmet had said.
"Pokemon...... um, I know what those are..." You say that as if trying to remind and reassure yourself more than anything.
"What? Of course you do. You are a Subway Boss." Emmet looks at you as if you've lost your mind. Maybe you have.
"Emmet... now that you say that... um, how do I put this? Well... who am I?" You look to your brother for answers as his eyes get wide with confusion and concern. "You say I'm a Subway Boss, and I know you are too, since that is our job title, but..... what is my name? I... I-I can't remember it."
"...Ingo. Y-your name is Ingo. You are my older brother. Older by about ten minutes," Emmet says slowly, as if trying to process all of this. "I-I am Emmet. I am going to get a doctor. Maybe your head injury is worse than we thought."
Before you can say anything, Emmet is gone, rushing out of the room. You are alone with just the realization that you can't remember who you are.
Your name is... Ingo?
