Reboot (FNAF Chronicle)

Summary:

This is set in a universe or future where Mimic Davis, which is currently in Sister Location, gets back to the Pizzaria. After being heavily damaged in an incident, Molten puts Davis back together... again. Eclipse is there to ask questions to help his system boot back up and calibrate.

Work Text:

Eclipse was... nervous, to say the least. The accident Davis had gotten himself into was quite severe, and after Molten got involved, well, let's say it did really ease Eclipse's anxiety of the situation. He was currently walking towards the repair room to see if he could speak to Davis. It had been about half a day by now, and though the damage was bad, Eclipse was relatively sure Molten would be finished by now.

However, to Eclipse's surprise, Davis was alone when Eclipse entered the repair room. That was odd. Shouldn't Molten be there? Had he just left after fixing him? Davis was staring at the wall with a hundred mile stare.

"Are you doing okay?" Eclipse asked gently, keeping his voice light.

Davis didn't respond. He didn't even move. He just kept staring.

"Did Molten just leave you here?"

At the name Molten, Davis' hollow, lifeless eyes locked onto Eclipse, pinning him in the spotlight. It was unnerving. He took a step back. From what Eclipse understood, Davis was basically an animatronic now, so maybe he was just having a hard time rebooting? Had he ever rebooted before? Maybe that's what this was. Eclipse tried to take a different approach.

"Do you know where you are?" Eclipse tried to keep his voice from shaking. After all, that probably wouldn't help, but he felt like Davis was dissecting him with his gaze, peeling off his metal plating ever so slowly. After a long eerie silence, occasionally broken up by the static of a voice box, something occurred to Eclipse.

"You- you don't have to respond verbally if that's too difficult right now," he offered. Yet again, silence, but this time Davis gave a slow nod just before Eclipse was about to speak up again. Okay, that was good. He seemed to be interpreting language fine.

"That's good, um, do you -" Eclipse cut himself off. He was going to ask if Davis remembered his own name, but a recent memory stopped him. 'I'M NOT HIM!' Davis' voice shouted, 'HE'S DEAD! I'M NOT THE HIM!' Eclipse shuttered slightly, recalling the memory.

"Do you recall what name the people here call you?"

Davis did not answer quickly, similar to the times before. He just kept staring, ragged breathing making its way through the silence, mixed with the occasional static of the voice box. Eclipse squeezed his hands together to keep them from shaking.

Davis took a deep breath that faded into what Eclipse could only describe as a coughing fit, "You mean other than manager? Ecl- ipse." He finally responded.

Davis said his name in a sort of slow, menacing way that sent a shiver down his spine. Capable of verbal response, check.

"Yes, other than titles."

"Davis," he said, gesturing at himself, "because I have the dead man's skin." After a moment, he pointed to his head and added, "and memories."

Metacognition, check. Beyond that, Eclipse wasn't really sure what to do. He wasn't really a mechanic, so from here he supposed he'd do the best thing he knew how to do.

"Do you want a hug?" He asked, opening his arms. Davis' eyes seemed to twitch slightly, but this time, instead of pure eeriness, Eclipse could see a hint of surprise in them. Davis looked at Eclipse's outstretched arms for a long moment before taking a step, two steps, and finally closing the gap between them. Davis wrapped his arms around Eclipse's torso, and Eclipse put his hands, gently, on Davis' back. They stood like that for a long while before he heard Davis say something, just barely audible.

"It hurt."

"I'm sorry," Eclipse replied softly, rubbing gentle circles into Davis' back. They stood there for a bit before they heard heavy footsteps coming down the hall, heavier than the normal animatronics that roamed here. After a moment, Molten entered the room.

"What are you doing?" He hissed at Eclipse.

"I just wanted to check on him, and it seemed like you were done and had left him alone."

"I- ," Molten groaned, running his claws down him face, "I wasn't entirety finished yet. Get out."

"But I think-"

"Get. Out." he growled threateningly.

Reluctantly, Eclipse let go of Davis and began to walk out of the room. Before he fully left, though, he cast a glance over his shoulder. The last thing he saw was Molten walking towards Davis. Davis' eyes were back to the hollow look they had when they'd started talking. He was just a shell of the man he was supposed to be.
