Chapter Text
A little fox was listening to a bedtime story.
“The end,” their mom had said. A chorus of whimpers had started to fill the den.
“Just one more stoooryy,” the fox had whined.
“Yeah, can you tell us about the planets?” both her younger and older sister chimed in.
“No, that’s boring,” her brother groaned.
“Go to bed. You clearly need the sleep,” their mother said in a playful tone.
“Pleeeease,” the pups said in a harmony of pleas, whines, and whimpers.
“Fine, but it’s gonna be about the planets.” You could hear her sisters quietly saying “Yes,” triumphantly, and her brother groaning and getting ready to sleep. “And you have to be quiet,”
“Okay!” they had responded quickly.
“Alright.” She took a deep breath. “Once upon a time, there was a world, filled with animals, the classes being more prosperous than ever. Mind you, this was ages before our time.”
“Whoa.” The pups looked astonished, the brother perking up.
“However, the rulers weren’t satisfied with this. They wanted more power, more land, more resources. They plunged the land into war, everyone fighting. Terra, being the embodiment of nature, knew this had to stop. She convinced Scolopi, the embodiment of the sun and sky, to help her. They knew that to defeat this evil, they needed more allies. They decided to choose one animal from each class to put through trials and tests to see if they were worthy of the power needed to defeat this monster. The animals they chose include a bird named Venera, a fish named Nepue, a reptile named Yupi, an amphibian named Freyr, and last but not least, a mammal named Arti.”
“Terra and Scolopi took these five animals and put them through trial after trial. After seeing that these five were using teamwork, strategy, and honesty to beat all of the tests, they gave them each two planets to rule over and corresponding powers. Venera was given Mercury and Venus, getting the power of fire. Freyr got Earth and Mars, having water as their power. Yupi had gotten Jupiter and Saturn, given rock as theirs. Nepue was given Uranus-” The little ones giggled for a moment. “And Neptune,” she said with a hint of annoyance.
“They had gotten ice as their gift.” She paused, needing to take a moment to breathe.
“Finally, Arti was given the Moon and Pluto as their planets and got the gift of the wind.”
“They fought the leaders of each class valiantly until they were defeated. The seven sealed them away, never to be seen again. They then realized that the classes now had no leaders. The planets then decided, with the help of Terra and Scolopi, to turn the classes into kingdoms and choose a new king or queen for each. The planets of each kingdom named them as follows. Nepue named his Oranous. Yupi named hers Soritun. Freyr named his Toplrak and-” She stopped as she realized all of the pups were sleeping.
“I guess it’s safe for me to go now,” she whispered. Little did she know, our little fox was still awake, curious about where their mother was going.
They do say curiosity killed the cat.
Or should I say fox?
