།ིྀ 𓈒˚̣̣̣།. A hushed nightfall over Kamome Academy, certainly, it was going to be like any night before when returning from a boundary, right?
" One. Two. Three. Four.. Five supernaturals " Vincent counted, sitting upon a ledge of an open window, when he had finished counting the creatures that were roaming the fields of the campus, they had seemed to crumble into nothing but glass shards. Vincent had no reaction to the sight, for he saw it coming, ever since Lottie had entered Number 6's boundary, she was fated to be sacrificed.
Footsteps approached the classroom, in which Ingo came into view, noticing Vincent as soon as he had peered in " Oh! There you are! " Ingo called out, walking deeper into the room, although he kept a short distance between him and where Vincent was sitting.
" Hey, Ingo. " was all Vincent replied with, not turning to face Ingo in his direction. " Come on! Vincent, you can't go disappearing on us like that! Number 6's yorishiro and I have been looking everywhere for you. " The kannagi lectured, annoyance was evident in his tone, but there was no real bite to it, there never was. Until situations were dire.
" Come on, Vincent! We have to find Number 6... And save Lottie " Ingo ushered, but soon stopped once he realised that Vincent wasn't paying much attention to what he was trying to say " Is something wrong? " He then asked, inching nearer towards Vincent.
" Hm? Oh, I was thinking it won't be long now " He bluntly replied, the phrase confused Ingo largely, What could Vincent even be on about? He thought " Won't be long? " Ingo repeated, that was when the school bell seemed to chime, startling Ingo greatly " The school bell?! Why now? It's so late at night.. " He questioned, looking up and around before turning back towards Vincent. " Hey, Vincent, I think something is happen...ing... " Ingo's voice trailed off with shock at the sight of Vincent's face.
Vincent turned around to reveal himself, small cracks in his skin as if he was fragile glass shattering " It's the severance " He simply said, a small upon his face as a small shard of himself broke off from his face.
Ingo couldn't process the idea at first " Wha..? Vincent?! " horror crept up to Ingo's face and tone " What's wrong with your body...? I-Is it breaking apart? " Ingo fretted.
Vincent's body continued to slowly break apart, piece by piece. He stepped down from the ledge and walked up towards Ingo whilst saying " Now that a girl has been offered up as a sacrifice, the human world and the supernatural world... Will be split clean into two "
The explanation didn't go through Ingo's head at first " Huh? What do you mean..? " He asked, his voice nervous and shaky. Vincent then gripped Ingo's arm and pulled him into a hug " We supernaturals are going to disappear from this world. "
The words hit Ingo like a punch in the gut, even worse is that Vincent was saying this all too bluntly, as if this was okay. " But it's okay, none of this is your problem anymore " Vincent's voice was gentle, yet his words were painful to listen to, irony at best for Ingo.
" Because after tonight, Ingo... You won't remember supernaturals "
" Vincent.. "
" You'll forget about me and about Lottie... And be able to live happily ever after "
" What are you saying..? "
" Hey.. " Vincent then tried to press two of his fingers against Ingo's forehead to rid his memories of the past hours... Days... Months, it doesn't matter, as long as he didn't remember Vincent or any supernatural.
" D- Don't! " The protection charm then did it's work, Vincent's hand being electrocuted by the current that the bracelet that was given to him by Number 6's Yorishiro back in the boundary.
Vincent looked down at the hand that was injured in the process, the current that had injured him had caused the process of the severance to quicken slightly, his hand returning to glass more and more. " Oh, That's what did it.. Why'd she have to give that to you? " Vincent asked, his tone low and dull.
Ingo staggered back a little, bumping into a bookshelf behind him, putting his hand up to his forehead " Vincent.. What did you just try to do to me..? " He asked, a nervous smile across his face " What do you mean 'I'll forget'?.. And why would I forget Lottie too..? " His questions were slowly turning to pleads, yet Vincent gave no reply, he just stared at Ingo, his eyes lacked any emotion.
" You're always like this! You never tell anyone what you're thinking. You just decide things on your own... Are you plotting something again? What is going on right now? Explain it to me in a way that makes sense! " Ingo questioned, his voice frantic and worried, yet he still pulled through.
Vincent looked down and sighed " I granted your wish, Ingo. " He said, putting his hands to his side casually. Ingo raised his eyebrow a little " My wish...? " Confusion washed over him, the only wish he knows he granted was...
" Yeah, remember.. You said you wanted to live in the real world longer. Though making sure you reach your hundreth birthday might be a stretch.. " He explained with a smile on his face, Ingo didn't know what to make out of this situation " My life-span... Has been extended? " Ingo's question was more harmful than he wanted to imagine, for the consequences of extending such a life-span, were dire.
Vincent's smile remained the same, never faltered. " It has. Are you unhappy? " He inquired, tilting his head and moving forward towards Ingo slightly. Ingo couldn't step back any further, since he'd just be slamming his body into a wall, so he stayed put, letting Vincent come as close as he wants " N... Not at all, but... Is it true? And why so suddenly..? " The question wasn't as innocent as it sounded- Vincent knew that very well, he never means any real harm towards Ingo but, in situations such as his life-span, which is a delicate concept, he didn't have much else to do other than what he had already executed.
Because Lottie has died in your stead "
The words seemed like a joke to Ingo at first, but at a second glance, Vincent was serious. " Eh? " worry was seeping in, and it was desperate for answers. " Wh-What... What are you saying, Vincent? I mean, my life-span has nothing to do with Lottie at all.. Even you said it yourself, Vincent. That we would go together.. And save her afterwards " Ingo's questions were frantic and full of panic, he reached out towards Vincent " Hey, this is a lie... Right? " But Vincent gave no reply, for he kept an innocent act up. " No way... I.. Didn't wish for any of this.. I.. What I said back then, was about wanting to live in a world, with both Lottie and Vincent in it.. The same world I've been living in until now. That's what I meant.. " Ingo tried to reason, but it was a pathetic attempt at best.
" L..Lottie can't die in my stead, I don't want that! " Ingo whined, tearing up at the thought of it, this future isn't what he wanted- but he was given it anyway. " I thought as much. But Ingo, I like you more than Lottie you see. I'm sorry, but it's okay! I'm going to disappear soon, too. So even if it's not right now, You'll still forget someday. " Vincent sighed, but his smile never faltered still.
Ingo breath hitched a little, he then raised his hand, he wanted to hit Vincent, but he couldn't, he couldn't bear the thought of doing that. Vincent flinched a little, but Ingo's hand didn't hit him, it gripped onto his shirt, the grip was tight but shaky " Don't... Don't go... " Ingo sobbed, his head down, leaning onto Vincent. Vincent looked down at the other, it was a sad sight to say the least. " Vincent... " His voice wavered, Vincent couldn't stand to watch it, but it had to happen..
" If only things could have stayed that way forever. No... "
" I wanted to try living with you too, Ingo " The glass shards on Vincent crumbled faster, he wrapped his arms around Ingo in a last attempt at comfort. But it was too late for the both of them. The shards were all that remained of Vincent, Ingo fell to his knees, grasping the small shards that were left in a desperate plee of wanting him to come back, to return and say it was all a dream, a joke.. A cruel joke.
Why.. "
