Chapter Text

The door had hardly swung shut before Yoongi turned to scowl at Namjoon.

“No.”

“But hyung!”

“Don’t but me, fuck no.”

“But he’s good and you know we need someone!”

“We’re not adding Jackson to our coven, Namjoon. We agreed coven business had to be unanimous and I’m saying no.”

Namjoon sighed, slumping down into his seat in frustration. So far they’d interviewed six different witches and Yoongi had turned down all of them. To be fair, Namjoon had vetoed most of them too, but that wasn’t the point. The point was they’d run out of applications now, which meant maybe they needed to rethink their criteria. This wasn’t working and they had to do something. After all, they really needed a third and this wasn’t something they could keep putting off anymore. They were spread too thin already as it was and their future wasn’t looking any easier. Something had to give and at this rate, that something was their mental and physical health. What were they going to do?

Just then, the door squeaked open and Namjoon looked up in surprise. No one else was scheduled for an interview, so what was going on?

Oh. It was …. Just a kid?

Namjoon deflated, sinking down even further into his seat as he started to accept that maybe their situation was hopeless.

“Hey, the daycare is down the road.” Yoongi yawned, before resting his forehead down onto his crossed arms. Honestly, Yoongi looked about as defeated as Namjoon felt.

The kid flushed at the comment, but stepped into the room anyway.

“You… made that post on witchvox, right? That you’re looking for a new member?”

Namjoon could feel his eyebrows trying to crawl up towards his hairline in surprise. This kid was a witch?

“Yeah kid, maybe. But we don’t take babies, besides you didn’t even apply.” Yoongi shot back, not even bothering to raise his head.

“Does it matter?” The kid, young man maybe Namjoon wasn’t sure anymore, walked further into the room. “No one else was right, were they? Because they’re not what you need. And here.”
Reaching their table, he placed a stack of papers onto the table between them.

“I printed it off.”

Yoongi simply scowled at the papers, so Namjoon reached out snagging the top page carefully before bringing it up to squint at the blurry words carefully. He’d taken his contacts out several hours ago and he’d forgotten his glasses at the house so he was kind of stuck right now.

“Jeon Jungkook? You’re… eighteen? Really?” Namjoon looked up, skeptical if he was reading this right. There was no way this kid was that old surely. He looked way younger. “And what’d you mean anyway. They weren’t what we needed? How would you know what we needed?”

The flush had faded and Jungkook looked much more sure of himself now that he had questions to answer.

“Jeon Jungkook. 18. And it’s because I saw it.”

Yoongi sat up at that, snatching the paper out of Namjoon’s hand in a hurry.

“You can see, kid?’

Jungkook nodded, a small smile curving his lips in a way that Namjoon was finding entirely too endearing. Kid looked kind of like a bunny. Maybe there was hope for them yet. For all his bark, Yoongi was a sucker for cute things and this Jungkook kid was pretty freaking adorable. Plus, they’d been hoping to find someone who could see. Yoongi had no talent in that area and Namjoon’s own foresight tended to be needlessly cryptic at the best of times.

“So… what else can you do, Jungkook?”

Jungkook smiled wider, reaching up to scratch at his now puffed out cheeks awkwardly. Maybe, despite his entrance, the kid was actually a little shy? Namjoon smiled a little on the inside, already thinking that maybe this would work out.

“Well… I’m okay at elemental manipulation and my spell writing isn’t too bad either. It’s all on my application.” Jungkook squirmed a little then, cheeks flushing a little like they had earlier. “Honestly, my specialty is music. Singing mostly. Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve been able to make stuff happen just by singing it.”

“You’re still a little kid.” Yoongi muttered, but his lips were starting to quirk up into a tiny smile as he made eye contact with Namjoon. Oh good. So they were in agreement then. The seeing had been a good start, but the musical aptitude had just sealed the deal. Only…
“You know, we were looking for a live in member. What about your family?” Namjoon asked, instantly regretting it when Jungkook’s smile quickly vanished. Shit. He’d clearly touched on a sensitive subject. Maybe one that was better off getting talked about later. “Sorry.”

Namjoon sighed and then started to gather together all the papers that were scattered over the table, nodding slightly when he noticed Yoongi watching him.

“Tell you what. We’ll read the rest of this when we get home, okay?”

Yoongi stood up, stretching languidly before heading for the door. He walked past Jungkook without a word, pulling the door open expectantly. Namjoon followed, ignoring the way Jungkook watched them with wide, startled eyes. Cute kid. If he’d seen that they needed him, why was he so nervous? Namjoon headed out the door, dimpling as Yoongi winked at him as he passed outside. So they really were in agreement then. It was nice, finally being on the same page again.

“Well?” Yoongi turned back to stare at Jungkook expectantly. “Are you going to make me hold the door open all day? Come on kid, we’re going home.”
