Work Text:
Xavier took a deep breath.
It had been so long since he last felt this kind of feeling. His heart wouldn't stop beating so loudly. Though the people surrounding them had been so noisy, all he could hear was his heart beating. His nervousness was driving him insane.
He must have been crazy.
Then he heard the gasps and awestruck murmurs of the crowd as they gazed up at the sky. The air seemed still, the world momentarily frozen in place, as the first shooting star streaked across the heavens. It was as if the night had opened, revealing a celestial wonder so breathtaking that time stood still—nature's masterpiece, unfolding in radiant splendor above them all. It looked like the whole of Linkon City was celebrating this day, too.
And beside him was her, the woman of his dreams, the love of his life.
She looked up at the sky, watching the shooting stars reflected in her eyes, but that didn't stop Xavier from admiring the woman beside him. This woman who made this ‘ordinary’ day very… special.
She’s so beautiful.
And just like the times before, his breath was taken away by the mere sight of her smile. He can't take his eyes off her. After all, she has made his life wonderful.
Xavier smiled as his blue eyes laid on the most beautiful eyes he’d ever seen. Xavier was truly happy on his birthday for the first time.
Birthdays are nothing to Xavier but an ordinary day. Even before, he wasn’t a fan of such parties. It was nothing but a day in the calendar, nothing special to him. He was more contented with reading a book on his birthday than attending birthday parties. Or simply eat a ramen instead of having a birthday cake. After all, nobody bakes a cake for him on his birthday.
Sometimes, he envied people who celebrated birthdays with their loved ones. How does it feel to be loved on the special day of your life, to receive such affection from someone on the day of your existence? It matters to him, even spending the rest of the day with him, reading a book, or cuddling as a gift.
He was alone, but not too long. After all, she came one night and lit up his whole world.
“Xavier?” she called, breaking the silence between them.
“Hmm?”
"I want to celebrate your birthdays, not only next year but also the following years."
Xavier stared at her, a bit surprised. His eyes were searching for something deeper behind her words. "Of course, but why the sudden words?"
That eyes she was showing him, she was reading him like a book. "Because in your eyes, there is something that scares me,” she replied to him calmly but thoughtfully. "Beneath that soft gaze you are showing me, I feel you’ll leave."
He can't help but to gaze at her. There was a worried look crept on the way to her face, making Xavier watch her in wonder. He smiled and could swear to the stars above that his heart skipped a beat when her touch landed on his face. "I told you, this star isn’t going anywhere."
He looked at her like no one existed where they stood, but the two of them, the stars above, witnessed how he bared his feelings towards her. “My home is where you are.”
Xavier would never forget that. He was a lone star in the vast universe before she came and walked into his life. After all, she had been his light.
She was his saving grace. At that moment, he knew. she would play the most significant role in his life—the place where only she could take a place.
To be his soulmate.
“I’ll spend every year of my life with you. Every birthday, every good time, and even the bad times. I want you to be a part of everything I have.”
Since she took him to the auditorium away from those guards that school day, he couldn't take his eyes off her.
During their secret encounters at the Academy, as they talked about the constellations in the night sky, the times they sat there in silence and watched the stars up high, or even the thought of what the future held, he loved her even more.
Throughout their time together, even when she wasn’t there with him, Xavier never felt alone again, for she existed inside his heart.
She is the one, he told himself back then. From that day onwards, Xavier already knew she was the other half of him, the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
She gently took his hand, taking Xavier by surprise.
Their fingers intertwined as she closed her eyes, whispering a silent wish to the stars.
“I want Xavier to stay with me forever.”
Xavier couldn’t tear his gaze away from her. He longed to lift his hands to her face and softly caress her cheeks. His heart raced at the thought that she was asking the stars for something with him in her heart.
The stars above them aren’t coming to their final stage yet, as if it's letting them spend more time in each other's arms. They were facing each other again but much closer than before, their foreheads touching and their breaths brushing against each other's lips. He was so close that she could even hear his heartbeat. Neither moved away, and all they did was stare and get lost in each other's eyes.
"In the endless expanse of the universe, there are stars born every day, but none as bright or beautiful as the moment you came into this world,” She said, almost whispering, her breath nearly touching his lips. “And I am eternally blessed for having you.”
Xavier breathed against her lips, his eyes faintly closing. Such beautiful words are coming from the light of his life. His eyes were filled with gratitude and love as he let her continue her words.
“Happy Birthday, Xavier. You’re the star I’ll always wish upon for a lifetime.”
Xavier smiled unbelieving his eyes. Her eyes showed him the most endearing smile, her expression showing the adoration and love she felt deep inside her heart. It was something so beautiful that seemed to connect to his soul in silence. This is the woman he promised to protect with his life, the girl who opened his cold and lonely heart, and the woman he swore he wanted to spend the rest of his lifetime with.
‘In the boundless cosmos, you are my destination.’
And as he looked into her eyes, he couldn't take it anymore.
‘And in the vastness of the universe, you are my home.’
He closed the distance between them, his lips pressing against hers, a gentle, sweet, loving kiss.
