Let the stars be the witness tonight

Summary:

Przygoda begs their boss Dottore to see the shooting stars. Dottore accepts their offer, under one condition.

Notes:

Despite this being the first fic of mine about these two, there will be more, and I'm working on a fic about how they met so there's that. It might explain more about my oc's character, and their relationship.

Work Text:

Tonight was supposed to be the night of shooting stars, a truly beautiful and, perhaps, even poetic occasion.

“Please Sir, this is one of a kind event…”

Przygoda pleaded, looking at Dottore, their boss, who was not keen on taking in their suggestion to go see the stars.

“Enough. I have had it with your ridiculous ideas.”

Dottore spoke, getting up from his chair, keeping his arms behind his back as he loomed over Przygoda from across the desk.

He took a moment to compose himself before scoffing, then outright laughing, filling the lab with his maniac glee.

“I mean, do you seriously expect me to take out a piece of my precious time to see some sparks of light in the sky?”

He rolled his eyes under his mask, before clicking his tongue and shaking his head.

“You must be naïve. No, outright stupid.”

Dottore added.

To which Przygoda sighed, but they didn’t want to give up just yet.

“I will allow it… I will allow you to experiment on me.”

They said.

The room has fallen into silence, Dottore raising an eyebrow under his mask, his smirk never wavering as he looked at them, letting out a chuckle.

“Now I’m interested. Those damned stars must really mean a lot to you.”

He said, to which Przygoda sighed.

“Maybe so…”

They simply replied, hiding the fact that what mattered to them most was, in fact, not to see the shooting stars, but to experience seeing them with him.

“Alright then. I will humor you, I suppose.”

Dottore replied reluctantly, cleaning up his reports for the day.

Przygoda smiled, letting out an excited gasp as they nodded, overjoyed with his final decision.

“Thank you, Sir!”

Dottore smirked as he continued working on closing up the lab for the day.

“And you…? Don’t you forget about the end of our little agreement.”

He added.

Oh uh. That was a pricey deal Przygoda had made… They nodded slowly, suddenly nervous as they were overthinking their choice.

“Alright… Let’s head off, then. But before we go, I want you to know a couple of rules.”

Dottore looked down Przygoda sternly.

“First, don’t stray off, obviously… Second, do not talk to anyone but me. And third, this stays between us.”

He walked up to the doors, rolling his keys in his hand, then paused, before adding –

“And I do expect you to keep up, little one.”

Przygoda nodded, and then nodded again. His rules were clear and simple, at least for now… Then again, they couldn’t help but feel truly thrilled to the point where they’d completely forget about the whole pact ordeal.

Dottore stepped out, waiting until Przygoda followed before locking the front doors of the facility, and then leading them outside.

For a while, the two of them walked without a word, Przygoda’s and Dottore’s bulky boots making sound as they walked in the snow.

Przygoda looked up to Dottore, his expression was unreadable under his mask.

“Hm?”

He turned his head to face them.

“Have you ever seen the stars fall with someone else before?”

Przygoda asked.

“No.”

He said.

Przygoda paused in their tracks, feeling their heart beat against their chest and their blood fastening as they heard his firm reply.

No...”

They repeated, as he stopped walking as well, looking down and watching them process his word.

“Never… You’ve never seen the stars before with someone else by your side…”

Przygoda spoke, looking at the snowy ground with a terrified expression.

Dottore sighed, scoffing before replying.

“No, never. I thought I spoke loud and clear.”

Przygoda couldn’t help but imagine how lonely that could be. If only Dottore could truly ever feel lonely? Could he ever? They began to ponder on it, despite knowing Dottore, knowing his reputation and his wrongdoings…

The thought of someone not having had such a heartwarming experience before made them feel sad. Now more than ever they felt like delivering this occurrence to him.

Dottore simply stood still, waiting patiently until they’d get a move on again.

“Let’s go, there’s no time to waste.”

They let out as they shook themselves out of their thoughts and then continued to walk with him.

The two of them wandered in silence into the woods, until eventually reaching a high point – the tip of a cliff. Dottore wasn’t a very talkative individual until prompted, at least around Przygoda.

As Przygoda’s shoes came to a halt, their mind suddenly wandered elsewhere again – with the thought of Dottore suddenly pushing them off the cliff now on their mind. But then they remembered their promise, and calmed down again.

“This spot should suffice. It has a vast view to offer.”

Dottore let out nonchalantly, looking at the empty, dark, night sky that seemed to spread out to the horizon and into a void of stars.

Przygoda moved their head forward, also admiring the view, eventually taking a spot to sit on the ground.

Dottore remained standing up, his arms behind his back, straight and firm.

“What’s your wish?”

Przygoda suddenly asked, looking up to Dottore with a soft smile.

“Wish? Tsk.”

Dottore raised an eyebrow under his mask.

“Yes, perhaps I could wish to be in my lab right about now. Conducting experiments on a little test subject.”

He smirked, chuckling.

“Ah, right.”

Przygoda simply chuckled nervously, nodding before looking back to the sky, as they noticed something.

“There it is!”

Przygoda let out with excitement. And surely, a shooting star was there, travelling the sky like a light train on the rails of the galaxy.

As the two looked up, Przygoda closed their eyes to make a wish.

“Hmm, is this what the entertainment is all about?”

Dottore mumbled, crossing his arms as he watched the shooting stars display.

“I think that the stars represent luck and fortune. How about we… Simply enjoy the display?”

Przygoda proposed with a smile. Inside, they truly pondered whether Dottore made a wish, whether he’d even care to genuinely do so. But mostly, they simply relished in the moment.

Dottore remained silent throughout the whole time, and although he did seem to look up at the sky at least once, his face remained emotionless.

The two of them watched the night sky filled with shooting stars together, with Przygoda innocently enjoying the sight, and Dottore eager to move on to conduct experiments on them once back at the facility.

The irony of such a pair – consisting of a naïve individual and a morally grey scientist, spending time together before one of them would eventually become the other's pray, was quite the sight. One that only they and the stars could witness that very night.
