Hearing the alarms blaring and cries of those falling, a blue hedgehog stood in the hall, his multicolored uniform blending in with the corpses of his fallen comrades who were covered in blood that pooled onto the floor staining the hall crimson.
Looking at the one who was causing such destruction he narrowed his gaze in anger for standing there in the middle of the small massacre was a dark purple hedgehog who lifted his head to glare at him, his slime green eyes revealing his calm yet enraged demeanor.
"Hello, Zonic." The purple hedgehog hissed in greeting. "It seems you couldn't contain me for long."
"We captured you once and we will do it again, Mephiles." Zonic responded. "Now surrender before you regret it."
"I do not surrender to anyone." Mephiles stated, extending his bloody claws a bit.
"Very well." Zonic suddenly took out a gold colored collar that he threw at Mephiles though unfortunately the dark hedgehog simply reached up and grabbed it mid-air before crushing it.
"Oh young Zone cop, I have grown smarter and stronger since you captured me." Mephiles sighed, a dark mist appearing around his hands. "Though because of your foolishness and capturing me I will now take my revenge and destroy all in No Zone." He announced, lifting his hand with a gleam in his eye. "Starting with you."
"We'll see." Zonic growled, getting ready for the attack and a moment later Mephiles blasted a shockwave of shadows towards him though he simply flipped into the air effectively dodging it as he landed off to the side of the hallway where he ran towards the enemy he needed to take down.
Quickly slipping into the ground as a shadow Mephiles watched Zonic miss him before looking around in confusion which Mephiles took to his advantage and leaped up from the shadow where he shifted his hand into a sword that he brought down upon the younger hedgehog who quickly blocked the blow by grabbing Mephiles's arm where it wasn't sharp though the force of the blow caused him to falter slightly and fall to one knee, trying his hardest to hold off the attack.
Ears flicking slightly Mephiles noticed a vulnerability and suddenly pulling back he made Zonic lose his balance before he kicked Zonic in the stomach making him fall back onto his rump where Mephiles stepped up and put the tip of the sword to Zonic's throat. "You cannot save yourself or anyone else, child."
"I'm not a child." Zonic hissed, suddenly kicking the legs out from under Mephiles effectively knocking him to the ground where he quickly pounced and pinned him down. "And you're going back to your cell."
"I'm afraid you are wrong." Mephiles replied, putting a hand on Zonic's chest where he sent a small shock of shadows through the younger hedgehog who jerked back in surprise and pain which he took advantage of to knock him off before standing up and extending a hand ready to kill Zonic who gasped desperately from the agonizing pain that seemed to pulse through his veins. "Now, mortal, you will die."
Laying there on his side Zonic stared up at Mephiles for a minute as he struggled to prop himself up on his elbow, trying to ignore the pain that seemed to never end making him feel rather weakened but he refused to give in so he looked the villain dead in the eye, searching for the perfect opportunity.
Without another word Mephiles prepared to blast his enemy wanting nothing more than to see every single Zone cop die by his hand especially this pathetic hedgehog that looked so similar to the hedgehog he had killed months ago, making this a satisfying kill for he got to see the hedgehogs pain for a second time.
Waiting for the impending doom Zonic watched as Mephiles sent another shock wave at him this one being very deadly though he was prepared for it and before it could hit him he quickly rolled out of the way before jumping to his feet in front of Mephiles where he hurriedly snapped another collar around the older hedgehog that immediately staggered back being in shock as his powers were suspended making him rather defenseless at the moment from the sudden change.
Standing there for a minute in silence Zonic watched Mephiles struggle with it though after a moment he suddenly stopped and cleared his throat before looking at Zonic.
"Pardon me." Mephiles spoke up, taking hold of the collar and pulling it off like it was nothing. "But I'm still strong enough to break these with or without powers."
With that he crushed it in his hand before suddenly extending it towards Zonic and blasting him in the left shoulder making him fly back and hit the nearby wall before slowly slipping to the floor being very dazed from hitting his head hard against the wall.
"Now, if you will excuse me I have others to kill while you bleed out." Mephiles waved dismissively before flying off to kill other Zone cops.
"I'm not dying today." Zonic grumbled, forcing himself to sit forward only to groan in pain and put a hand on his shoulder finding it was bleeding fast for he had a quicker pulse than others making bleeding out more of a reality though he wouldn't let that happen so getting to his feet he staggered after Mephiles as he patched himself up on the way.
Following the trail of now dead comrades Zonic soon found Mephiles though he paused finding him in his headquarters where he stood motionless in front of the many screens showing the different types of Sonic's in many different zones.
"A large amount of you's." Mephiles mused, glancing back at Zonic who didn't respond as he looked at the many screens all around the room. "It is an interesting thing to observe, so many varieties of what could be."
"It's none of your concern, you are going back to your cell where you won't be able to cause any harm to the zones." Zonic stated.
"I have no intentions of bothering those places." Mephiles put off. "I simply wish to return to my home dimension after I kill everyone here."
"Unfortunately for you I'm immortal." Zonic stated. "And I will take you down before you can harm another."
"If you truly are immortal then it seems you have a lonely miserable life ahead." Mephiles said coldly, turning to face him fully before suddenly flying over and knocking Zonic back where he rammed him against the wall. "For you may try to take me down with your fancy No Zone technology and speed but you lack the experience and strength I have so you will be defeated along with everyone else."
Having quite enough of this Zonic pulled his legs up and kicked Mephiles back distracting him just enough so he could land a punch making the purple hedgehog fall to the floor though that only angered the Dark more making him growl and lunge up at Zonic who quickly ducked and grabbed him where he used the momentum to fling Mephiles across the room.
Hitting the wall hard Mephiles fell to the floor in a heap where he laid there for a minute trying to regain himself though after his head stopped spinning he forced himself up to his hands and knees, he then lifted his head with a growl of annoyance only to pause noticing something very strange.
Ears flicking slightly Mephiles stared at the screen in front of him, his mind wandering to what kind of place that was for it was very strange to see. Slightly curious he slowly reached out to it his whole self strangely being drawn to the scene in front of him for there was Sonic but he.. he was hugging a hedgehog that had purple fur like him and crystalish limbs with striking light green eyes and red sclera.
"What is this..?" Mephiles questioned, staring at the scene that was causing him to be distracted from his mission.
Zonic was silent for a long minute as he stared at the screen though not really that interested he looked back at Mephiles who was oddly very interested in it.
"That's a Dadphiles zone." Zonic told him. "Where you are a dad or a dad figure to.. him."
"A dad.." Mephiles pinned his ears as he watched the two show their affection in that embrace though knowing he wasn't like that he shook his head and got to his feet. "A pitiful concept."
"Agreed." Zonic waved dismissively. "Family is overrated."
"And I have more important things to do than cater to a child." Mephiles put off.
"And I don't need a dad." Zonic added.
With that agreed the two fell silent though they found it to be more awkward for neither moved to attack as they watched each other or glanced at the screens, both not knowing what to do now as they basically forgot what they were doing.
"We better finish." Zonic finally broke the silence after several long tense minutes.
"Of course." Mephiles agreed, lifting a hand that was covered in mist ready to attack.
'I love you.. father.'
Pausing in surprise Mephiles glanced back down at the screen they had been staring at and he noticed the two looked so happy and content while he felt rather empty without his mission that drove his thinking to destroy everything that got in his way.
Noticing Mephiles's distraction Zonic considered attacking though he held back allowing the purple hedgehog to watch for it seemed he was too distracted to fight or even realize that reinforcements were on their way.
Slowly lowering his hand Mephiles watched the screen as the other him said goodnight before tucking that Sonic into sleep which was strange for he never thought of himself to be a good parent or anything other than a monster for that matter.
Knowing he had to finish the job Zonic quickly lunged forward and knocked Mephiles down where he clamped another collar on and in a blink of an eye he put handcuffs around the purple hedgehog's wrists.
"You're defeated." Zonic announced, keeping the adult pinned to the floor.
Struggling against the feeling of no longer having his powers Mephiles pinned his ears before looking at Zonic, his eyes full of frustration not liking this feeling though Zonic simply glared back down at him refusing to let him go for everything he stood for depended on it.
"You may have defeated me this time but you won't contain me forever." Mephiles informed him, his calm demeanor slowly returning.
"We'll see." Zonic replied flatly.
Without another word they remained there for a minute till a bunch of cops soon hurried in where they quickly and efficiently assessed the situation. Taking hold of Mephiles they pulled him to his feet as Zonic stepped back to watch as they led the hedgehog away though he paused noticing a strange look in Mephiles's eyes that was very brief and small but it looked like it was acceptance.
"Are you alright, Zonic?" One of the other Zone cops queried, noticing his wound that he held onto as he slowly regained himself.
Watching them leave Zonic pinned his ears before waving his hand dismissively. "I'm fine."
"Okay.. as long as you're sure." The cop nodded before turning and marching away.
Standing there alone for a minute Zonic glanced back at the same screen wondering how that one scene had caused such a strange situation of silence between him and that villain.
He honestly cared nothing about having a family since he grew up an orphan with no hope of family so it wasn't anything he really dreamed about necessarily not like those things mattered here for he was far too busy to trouble with the concept though still... in the back of his mind he kind of felt jealous of the Sonic's he watched day after day for most of them he had a family or close friends that were like family while he was stuck here strictly on business.
Shaking his head slightly he turned and marched away to get back to work, doing his best to forget what just happened for he hated to admit it but it appeared this Mephiles and he had a small connection which he tried to put off knowing it had to be impossible.... At least that's what he tried to convince himself.
