Work Text:
The Devil would be lying if he said he had planned to have a child….
He’d also be lying if he said he had planned to fall in love too.
To be honest. The Devil never really planned any of this.
It just seemed to have happened.
On a blisteringly hot day where the sun created a bubble of warmth that could be comparable to a hellish degree.
When the pool and the sprinklers ran rampant spitting out salvation for those who lived in the Inkwell Isles.
The Devil found himself staring at the almost angelic man before him.
The Devil would lie and say that he wasn’t anything special.
Nothing…. Grandiose about the Sentient Dice in front of him.
Yet still he flirted, and still the Devil listened. Letting the man have his smoldering seconds of attention.
It was only meant to be a moment in time.
It was never supposed to go very far.
And yet two years later. He found himself visiting the mortal realm once more, only to be greeted by a child standing along in his garden. Clutching the small gift the Devil had imparted unto the Dice he’d secretly started to visit.
At first a cacophony of rage and disgust at the Dice and at himself stirred in his lungs creating smoke signals into the air as if he were trying to warn them of his short temper.
Yet his wick was silenced when the Dice man appeared. Tending to the child and speaking to them gently.
A familiar look in those decadent green eyes.
The Devils tongue twisted in his mouth as he watched from a distance. Eavesdropping on the two as curiosity brewed with his unease.
“Hush now, Bendy. It’s time to go. Today wasn’t the day.” Dice said with a melancholy hum.
Bendy. The young child wordlessly clutched onto the taller man with a look of sadness that swirled like smoke in his unusual red and yellow eyes.
Heterochromia. Much like the Devils own.
“Is Papa eva’ goin’ to appear?” Bendy whispered pitifully and Dice’s eyes drifted to the Gardenia’s that he’d planted there a long time ago.
The devil still had yet to look into flowers and their meanings. It seemed odd when the man would gift him various blooms, he did not know the names of.
“He will. Eventually.” Dice promised and tucked some of Bendy’s hair out of his face. “He’s just really busy tending to the fields of the dead.” He explained and Bendy’s tail, that the devil only took notice of now, came up and wrapped thinly around Dice’s waist.
“I’ll be patient. I pwomise.” Bendy said softly and Dice scooped him up fully into his arms.
“That’s good. Patience is a tricky thing to learn.” Dice praised and Bendy smiled gently before tucking his head against Dice’s chest. Ending their talk.
The Devil stared at the duo as they walked in to the house and slowly revealed himself from the brush.
That was the day he learned he could make children.
It took another three years for the Devil to actually meet Bendy. Secretly avoiding the human and halfling as much as he could by drowning his sorrows in work until somehow, Bendy was standing in his throne room with a soul he’d somehow learned to reap with his own hands.
Like plucking a flower from the garden…. That’s how easy it was for the devil at least.
It seemed it was just as easy for his halfling son.
“I didn’t mean to…” Was the first thing he’d hiccupped to the Devil. Oceans of tears dripped from those searching eyes and the Devil couldn’t help but soften his approach to the boy.
It was always terrifying for any hell bound creature to commit to their first reap.
Bendy was no different.
“Hush, child.” He cooed gently. An approach he refused to take with the others who were not present.
“Did you reap this recently?” He asked and Bendy bobbed his head franticly which worsened his hands shaking. The glowing soul wobbled like a bubble about to pop against the motion.
“Let’s have a look at what kind of soul you’ve got, hmm.” He said softly and gently held his hands around the child’s asking for permission to see what he’d collected on his first try.
Bendy opened his palms and the soul shuddered as it unraveled before them exposing the nature of itself to the two devils.
The devil smiled proudly seeing as his offspring first reap was a plentiful one indeed. If he recalled he’d heard of the soul. A child of a star that struggled to live up to their potential and beat their competitors with their strength of will and cunning alone.
If it were his collection he’d display this one with pride.
“How did you come to reap such a strong soul?” He asked patiently and Bendy spoke of the small goal and deal he’d unknowingly made with the mortal.
He taught them. Allowed them to be tutored and if they won under his guidance, he’d get something in return.
As vague as the contract was it still functioned in the little Devils favor. The poor girl had no idea what she’d agreed to and neither had his son.
“Then her soul is rightfully yours, child. I cannot interfere with your contracts. Only you can decide what to do with her.” He explained and Bendy clutched his hand before he could get off of his bended knee.
“But I didn’t mean to. Isn’t there something I can do so she can live longer or… stay with me?” He pleaded gently.
The devil felt his face grimace as the small devil pleaded to him so.
If it were a normal demon or imp he’d of offered to take the soul, but Bendy seemed attached in some way to her.
“Fine. How about I teach you about such contracts and we’ll go from there.” The Devil suggested and Bendy unknowingly agreed to be tutored by his father.
So standing in front of his lovers house with Bendy and Alice in tow was not how he saw his day going, but it would be hard pressed if Bendy’s absence wasn’t an opening for discussion.
After all. He’d have to teach Bendy the ways of being a demon. Let alone the little Devil he’d become.
Of course, Dice was surprised to see him, a little concerned as well seeing as Bendy had brought him to their doorstep, but he didn’t seem unwelcome to it at all.
In fact he apologized for not telling the Devil about their son. He had meant to, but their last meeting was short and the Devil was never one to stick around.
A/N: Sorry this is not very well put together, but I aparently had written it at 5 in the morning and it was half a year ago when i wrote it ^^'
