My heart is searching for you

Summary:

"It's dangerous, Evy! I don't wanna lose you." Wait. What? Rick quickly shut his mouth, confused as to why he said that. Evelyn was also so astonished that she almost dropped the book. She looked at him as if searching for something; there was a different expression on her face.

But then they heard a sound of surprise from Jonathan, and the two turned to where the man was looking. The intruder was now coming closer to them. A man dressed in black.

"Our memories are returning," said Ardeth Bey. He studied each of them and lingered on Jonathan's face. There was a strange feeling between the four of them, like old friends reunited after a long time."

Notes:

I slightly changed the last names because I was worried it would seem like they were descendants of the characters and not reincarnations.

Work Text:

21st century, Cairo.

Jonathan hurried into the Cairo Museum. He had a date that night, but his sister hadn't come home and wasn't answering his calls.

When Evelyn Carnavon got excited about something, she forgot everything else, and tomorrow her exhibition about the legend of Hamunaptra would open. He passed through the glass door that led to the exhibition hall and saw his sister... Lying on the floor with her eyes closed.

A scream caught the attention of Rick O'Connor, who had recently been hired as a security guard at the museum. The previous guard had warned him, "Be careful with the mummies and the Carnavon librarian!" but he thought the comment was absurd. First, mummies didn't come back to life, and the librarian seemed completely harmless and even cute.

Anyway, Rick ran inside the building and followed the scream. The other employees had already gone home and the museum was seemingly empty, but Rick knew the librarian was still there preparing a new exhibit. The fear that something might have happened to her made O'Connor run faster to the hall.

"BLOODY HELL??" yelled a british man in a dark blue smoking suit at the librarian, who was sitting on the floor with her arms crossed.

"Jonathan, there's no need for this language! I decided to sleep a little, is that a problem?" said Evelyn, starting to get up.

Rick watched the two, somewhat confused, and asked, "Sorry to interrupt but what happened?". Finally, his presence was noticed, and he observed how Evelyn looked him upside down and blushed. Rick tries to give her his most charming smile, but senses that a silly grin has appeared instead.

The man who had shouted remained indignant. "I will tell you what happened, old boy. My baby sister wants to give me a bloody heart attack!" exclaimed Jonathan while he was collapsing dramatically in the pharaoh's chair that was part of the exhibit.

Evy was too fascinated by Rick that she didn't reprimand her brother. Those two are very strange, Rick reflected, and there was something very familiar about them. He observed the woman's face, and those eyes... Rick had seen them before, but where?

Jonathan looked at the guard and his sister and rolled his eyes. "Please, you two—" Jonathan's words were interrupted by a loud noise. The three looked at each other, frightened.

Rick quickly glanced at the glass door and noticed it was locked from the inside. He had left the door open when he saw the Carnarvon siblings. Then the trio heard footsteps behind the shelves, and Rick ran towards the intruder.

Evelyn picked up the heaviest book from the table next to her and followed Rick. "I'm going with you!"

O'Connor turned around, astonished. "Nope, you gonna stay with your brother". The woman shot him an angry look, and a strong sense of déjà vu hit him.

There was a strange feeling between the four of them, like old friends reunited after a long time.

"Who are you and what are you talking about?" Evelyn asked, curious. She put the book back on the table and wondered what was going on. O'Connor seemed strangely familiar, and she had weird dreams about mummies, Hamunaptra, and even the lost oasis of Ahm Shere. Evelyn thought it was because she studied too much and about O'Connor, well, he was very attractive.

"My name is Ardeth Bey. I know it's hard to believe but our souls are connected... I didn't believe it myself." Ardeth looked at Jonathan before turning to Evelyn and Rick. "Didn't you feel a strange sense of familiarity? Or having strange dreams?"

Rick O'Connor was about to lie and say he didn't believe in such things until he saw the expression on Evelyn's face as she looked at him.

"Oh, well. I've had strange dreams about becoming very rich," Jonathan said, making Evelyn and Rick's eyes roll back, "and something about the four of us running away from mummies. It's pretty silly... Right?". He looked at Ardeth, and an image of him kissing Ardeth flashed through Jonathan's mind. They were wearing old-fashioned clothes, perhaps from the 1930s or 40s, and were inside a room near a fireplace.

Ardeth smiled and explained, "In time, you'll understand everything. I believe my memory has fully returned, but I'll wait for your time." Then the man unlocked the glass door and left.

"What the hell?" Rick finally said.
.
After Ardeth left, the three returned to their homes, pondering what had happened. Perhaps the man had only wanted to play a trick on them? It all seemed too absurd. But then Rick dreamed of kissing Evelyn in the middle of the desert. She was wearing a black nightgown and they were both exhausted but happy. Of course they were, they had defeated Imhotep!

Then he found himself in a mansion, laughing with Evelyn in his arms while Jonathan told him something. There was a little boy running through the room to hug him. And more and more memories began to surface. Rick woke up dazed and dressed quickly, thinking he needed to see Evelyn, but someone knocked on his apartment door.

He opened the door and saw Evelyn Carnavon, or rather, Evelyn Carnahan, standing before him. She was wearing her robe and had tears on her cheeks, but Evelyn was smiling at him.

"Rick O'connell, I missed you so much..." she whispered. Rick felt his eyes burn and held her in bridal-style, making Evy laugh. Then he started kissing her lips and saying "I love you" with all the adoration he felt for her in this and in their past life.

Meanwhile, Jonathan searched the streets of Cairo for Ardeth without success. Like his sister, his memory returned, and he felt a desperate need to find the Medjai.

"Soulmates are destined to always find each other. Go after him, Jonathan," his sister had said before she went to Rick's apartment.

Jonathan was thinking about calling his sister for help when he saw Ardeth sitting on a bench watching the stars.
The British couldn't resist and shouted "Ardeth!" as he approached. Ardeth was surprised but soon his heart filled with hope.

"Do you remember everything?" he asked, trying to control his heart. "Do you remember... me?"

Jonathan stopped a few centimeters and said, "If I remember that you saved me and my dear family countless times and that my heart belongs to you? Yes, I remember". Then, in a moment of complete happiness, the two kissed and their hearts beat in perfect harmony.

Four souls were reunited, and many adventures await them.
