Juggling Priorities

Summary:

A Lloyd centric story (😯 I'm shooketh)

Lloyd is now a freshman at East Ninjago High. He's hoping to just slide by the school year without causing trouble. And possibly make new friends. But it seems life has other plans.

Notes:

TW: Bullying and swearing. This consists for most of the book. I won't put these two on the entire time, as that just ruins everything.

Chapter 1: First Day

Notes:

Have another book from me! Cause why not toss this book on my Ao3 as well. I'm working on chapter 4 currently. So I'm tossing the three I have right now on here. Enjoy!

Chapter Text

Lloyd rested his head against the window of the back seat, watching the city pass by in the car on the way to school. He sighed. It was the first day of school, and he was going into freshman year at East Ninjago High. He tried to beg his mother to let him go to West High, but it was a no go. She was literally the principal at East High.

"Oh come on honey, it won't be that bad. You'll have a great time at this high school." Koko encouraged her son.

Lloyd huffed. "Maybe I would. If all my friends didn't go to West High."

Koko looked at him in her rearview mirror. "I'm sorry hunny, but I'm sure you can make new friends. The kids here are great."

Lloyd just rolled his eyes at his mother and looked back out the window. His plan for this year was to just slide by and pass his classes. No extracurriculars or anything.

After a few more minutes of driving, the car pulled into the parking lot of the ginormous school and parked in a staff parking stall. Koko turned and looked at LLoyd with her signature kind smile. "You have your schedule right?"

Lloyd looked at her and just nodded.

"Alright, well then. Just follow your schedule. I'd recommend finding your locker first. Remember that you have an hour before school starts, since we get here early."

"Okay." Lloyd said softly.

Koko rustled her son's hair. "You'll be fine, dear" She turned back around, grabbed her stuff and hopped out of the car.

Lloyd stepped out of the car, and shouldered his backpack. His mom locked the car and went in the staff entrance. Taking a deep breath, Lloyd walked inside the school.

The inside was vast, but empty. The janitor had just opened the school about thirty minutes prior, nobody was likely to be here. Lloyd pulled out his schedule and looked at the locker number on it. Locker 486.

Lloyd found the lockers and followed the numbers. The lockers were full lockers, unlike in his middle school, where they only had half lockers. He reached his locker and opened the combination lock. He dropped his backpack inside and locked it back up. He had an entire hour to kill, so he just sat on the floor and pulled out his phone.

He put his headphones in and watched videos on NetTube. After about fifteen minutes, two people passed by him. As time went on, more and more people started to pass by him. Lloyd looked at the time and saw that it was thirty minutes till school officially started.

Before long, the school was packed with students. People who knew each other chatted, catching up about the summer. Some people were showing off to others, doing flips, skateboarding in the hall, someone was blasting music. Some were being gutsy and doing some substances and drinking. All of those things weren't allowed, but Lloyd knew they were too short staffed here to always enforce the rules.

Lloyd looked at the time. Twenty till school starts. He stood and opened back up his locker. It wouldn't hurt to get to class early, especially with how busy the school was. Looking at his schedule, he had language first. Since it was the first day, he didn't have anything to bring, so he just grabbed his whole bag. He locked the locker and headed to class.

He weaved through the crowd, trying to avoid people. He had been around this school many times, often coming with his mother to the school when he was younger, so he knew where his classes were. He checked his phone and ran into a body, falling backwards in surprise.

The kid turned around and looked down at Lloyd with a sneer. "Watch what you're doing kid." The guy growled. He had jet black hair, with green tips. He had piercings all over his ears, as well as snake bites. He had an emo punk like look, wearing mostly black and green.

Lloyd looked at the kid nervously. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."

The white haired girl accompanying the green haired kid scoffed. "And? How about you don't do it next time? Dipshit." She had red tipped hair, and a stud nose ring. She wore just a punk look, with high length platform boots.

Lloyd shuffled to his feet. "I'm sorry, it won't happen again." He moved around them and scurried away. He grumbled. "Assholes. Act like I targeted him." He made his way to his class. Looking around, there were a few students already sitting. He made his way to the back, and sat in the back in the corner.

He plopped his bag on the ground and put a headphone in, and turned on some music. He pulled out a notebook and started doodling. Lloyd got lost in the doodling and wasn't brought out of it until a pair of shoes stopped in front of his desk and a girls voice spoke.

"Excuse me. Is this Mrs. Soren's language?"

Lloyd looked up. The girl had ebony black hair pulled back into a high ponytail, and wore a casual rock look. She had a single pair of stud earrings and wore a necklace with a white bunny charm. "Oh, um, yes. This is." Lloyd answered.

The girl smiled. "Thanks." She went to the seat next to Lloyd and sat down. She turned to him and held out a hand. "I'm Nya Smith. Nice to meet you."

Lloyd looked at her for a second, before shaking her hand with a smile. "Nice to meet you too. I'm Lloyd Garmadon."

"Are you Principal Koko's son?" Nya asked.

Lloyd sighed with a nod. "Yeah. That's my mother. Love her to death."

Nya smiled. "I'm sensing some contention?

"Just a little today. It'll be fine by the end of the day." Lloyd said.

"Fair enough."

Lloyd turned back to his doodles. He could feel Nya looking over his shoulder, but he didn't mind. He hummed to the music he was listening to.

"You're great at drawing. That looks really cool." Nya complimented.

Lloyd looked at her with a wide smile. "Thanks. But these are just doodles. I'll have to show you my real art sometime."

"I'd like that." Nya said as the bell rang.

The rest of the students piled into the classroom and the class started. The teacher introduced herself and went over the class curriculum. He barely paid attention to her, and just kept doodling and listening to his music. Mrs. Soren advised the students to have folders for each class.

Lloyd was ahead of her for that one. Well, his mother was. Lloyd had multiple folders in his backpack, thanks to his mother making sure he was ready for anything. Once the teacher was done with the introductions for the class, she turned them loose for the last few minutes.

He just continued drawing. Turning over the page he thought of something to draw. He looked over at Nya, who was reading, and started sketching. He was quick about it. Lloyd had been drawing for a long time, so he was pretty skilled. When he got done with that, he tried to clean it up more. Once he felt it was perfect, he leaned back and took a further look.

Lloyd turned to the girl and tapped on her shoulder. She put her book down and looked over.

He faced the picture towards her. "What do you think?"

Nya's face lit up. "That's beautiful! You're such a good artist!"

Lloyd smiled. "Thanks."

The bell rang to signal the end of class and people hurried up from their seats. Lloyd and Nya were no different. The two walked to the door together and waived goodbyes before splitting for their next classes.

It was pretty much the same thing for the next two classes. Math and geography. The math teacher was a spritely old man, who enjoyed cracking jokes and was an all around fun guy. Lloyd had never been one for math, but he felt it would be more enjoyable this year.

The geography teacher was the complete opposite. He was a grumpy man, probably in his middle thirties. He couldn't stand if all eyes weren't on him, so Lloyd couldn't even draw while the teacher droned on. It was boring. The teacher didn't like headphones either, but Lloyd refused to just listen to this teacher, so he just hid the headphone by laying on his ear. It sucked that the worst teacher was in charge of the most boring class.

Thankfully, once class ended, it was time for lunch. While the school was humongous and should honestly have multiple lunches, they all had to share. Most of the time, by the time you actually get your food, you'd only have about five minutes to even eat. So, Lloyd was thankful his geography class was close to the lunch room. He got his food quickly, then headed outside.

Lloyd sat in a quiet spot in the courtyard under a tree and pulled out his notebook. Switching between eating and drawing, he listened to his music and enjoyed the outside. Occasionally looking up to make sure he was drawing the landscape. At one point, someone came out and started playing with a basketball. The landscape was mostly done, so he began to add in the student. He focused on finishing the drawing, nibbling on his bread roll.

"That's a nice drawing." A voice said.

Lloyd jumped and looked to his right. Basketball kid was standing over him with a grin. He wore blue vans shoes and some blue jeans. He also had a light black shirt with a blue flannel. His hair was a curly red.

The guy chuckled. "Sorry to startle you."

"That was not expected. I didn't notice you stopped playing." Lloyd said. "But you're fine."

Basketball kid smiled. "I just saw you over here drawing and eating, so I thought I'd come say hi. I'm guessing you're a freshman."

Lloyd scoffed. "What makes you think that? I mean, I am. But how can you tell?"

"You're sitting outside for lunch, mostly. That, and you just look like one."

Lloyd looked at him like he was crazy. The dude just laughed.

"Don't worry. I did it last year too."

"Fair enough I guess. I just didn't have anywhere to sit inside. And it's a nice day." Lloyd said. That was mostly true. He also didn't want to run into his mother, who would ask insistent questions that could wait until after school.

The guy smiled. A voice shouted and the two looked at the door. Someone was waving basketball kid inside. The kid just looked at Lloyd.

"Well, if you ever want to sit inside, you're welcome to join my table." The kid started to walk off. "See you, freshman!" Then he ran back inside.

Lloyd watched. The offer was nice, but he didn't even catch a name for the kid. He stayed there until the last ten minutes of lunch. He then gathered his stuff and headed to his next class. Looking at his schedule, it was biology. Great, science. He hated that subject. At least it was the first day, and nothing should happen.

He walked to class, and sat in the back, like he had for the first half of the day. When the class started, he did what he did for the rest of the class. Listened to music and drew. The teacher was a crazy science lady. She was one of those teachers who felt everyone should like science just as much as her. He could tell this was going to be a long semester.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, that class ended and it was on to his last class of the day. It was also bound to be his favorite. Art. He headed to the class and took a seat in the middle of the class. The teacher was a very young woman with long curly red hair. She seemed very friendly.

Lloyd watched all the students file in as the bell to start class rang. Once everyone was situated the teacher started. Lloyd actually paid attention this time.

"Hello class! Welcome to art! I'm sure you'll enjoy this class, no matter your skill level! But before the fun can begin, we need to go over some things. One, I allow phones, as long as you are listening to something. Things like music, podcasts, whatever are great ways to spark your creativity. Second, all art does need to be school appropriate. I can be quite lenient with that, but it is a general rule. Third, the plan for this class, is you will submit an art project every two weeks, relating to what we are learning about. Finally..."

She was cut off by the door opening, and two kids came into the classroom. Lloyd recognized them as the same two he had run into this morning. Great. He hoped that they wouldn't be a problem in this class.

"We're here." The girl said. She wore a smirk that said she was proud to be late and interrupting.

"Hope we didn't miss anything." The boy said, wearing that same smirk.

The teacher looked at them with a disdainful grimace, as if she had endured previous encounters with them, or that they were at least notorious for trouble in the teachers circle. "Ah. Harumi and Morro Harlan. Please take your seat, we're just about finished with the introduction."

The two walked to the chairs and sat in the only open seats. That just so happened to be behind Lloyd. He hoped that they had just forgotten him.

"As I was saying, finally, if you need extra credit, come talk to me, and I'll find something. I'm very willing to help with extra credit. Art should be fun. And unfortunately I have to give you a grade for it, so I try to make it as easy for an A as possible."

Murmuring went around the room. If people were really just in this for the credits, they had an easy A. Lloyd was here because he liked art. There was a clear difference. He wouldn't need the extra credit he was sure, but he might do it just for fun. He could always opt out if he didn't like the extra work.

"Now. I know it's only the first day, but we're going to do some art. This is just a simple one day thing, but I would like you to make a drawing of yourself. Make it look however you'd like, just as long as it looks like you. But, I want at least three things hidden inside your drawing that describe you." The teacher, Ms. Wren, clasped her hands together. "You have the rest of class. I'll have you put them on a counter space before you leave class."

Ms. Wren handed out a canvas to everyone and told them to get whatever supplies they wanted to use. Lloyd decided on a charcoal drawing. It would be a messy endeavor, but he didn't often get the chance to use charcoal. For that exact reason. He grabbed some charcoal and started to work on his drawing. He had a vision for this first project and he was determined to get it done before the end of class.

His hands flew across the canvas as he worked on his drawing. He took a photo of his face for a reference. He drew his face, making sure to get everything right. Then he added his hair. He kept the integrity of what it looked like, wavy and short, but he made it out of the word 'creative.' The one stipulation was that the art had to have 3 traits within the portrait, so he put that in his hair.

He heard giggling behind him, but he ignored it, chalking it up to students goofing off. He continued to work. Next he did his shirt. He wrote the word 'kind' twice, in the shape of a heart where his would be in the picture. He finished that pretty quickly. He had only done his top half, so he had to figure out what to do for the last word.

Lloyd heard louder laughing, and then felt something touch his head from behind. He turned around to the laughing group, and noticed Morro and Harumi laughing at him.

"What was that? And why are you laughing?" Lloyd asked harshly.

Morro rolled his eyes. "Oh nothing." He said through giggles. His sister just smirked and laughed next to him.

Lloyd felt something drip down his forehead. He reached up and touched a sleek substance. Pulling his hand down and looking at it, he knew what it was. "Did you put hot wax in my hair?" He asked, appalled.

"If we did, what of it?" Harumi said with a cruel laugh.

Lloyd frowned. "Where did you even get wax?" He said. He could feel tears of humiliation trying to show up, but he didn't let them.

"Oh, you know. I just carry it around with me." Morro laughed, holding up a candle and a lighter.

Other kids around them started to laugh again. Lloyd clenched his fists. What did he do to earn this? Was this cause he accidentally ran into them earlier, or because they were just jerks? "Leave me alone." Lloyd said.

Harumi looked at him with a sickly sweet smile. "What? We haven't done anything." Then she giggled.

Lloyd turned around in frustration. He stuck his hands in his hair, trying to get a feel for how much wax had been put in there. He ran his fingers through, breaking apart dried wax. There was so much! How long had they been putting it in there? He pulled out chunks and put them on the desk. He couldn't get all of it out, but he got as much as he could. He then stood up and threw the chunks away.

Going back to his desk, keeping himself from just crying, he finished his picture. He made some changes and wrote the work 'brave' across his shoulders and chest, making them blend in as his shirt.

The teacher went around the classroom, taking a look at everyone's art. She stopped and took an extra long look at Lloyd's as he made adjustments and made it look perfect. Lloyd looked up at her and she smiled. "That is some beautiful art. Charcoal is messy and hard to work with." She complimented.

"Thanks. I don't get many chances for charcoal art. So this isn't my best." Lloyd said.

"Well, if this isn't your best, I'm very excited to see you when it is. Do you mind if I hang this one up on my walls?" Ms. Wren asked, extending a hand towards the portrait.

Lloyd smiled. "Sure." He quickly signed the corner and handed it to her.

The teacher grabbed his art and grinned. "I look forward to having you in my class, Lloyd."

Lloyd watched as Ms. Wren walked away. He looked at his phone and saw that there was only five minutes left of class. The teacher made it back to the front of the room and addressed the class. "There's five minutes left. I would like you to find some counter space to put your art on."

The students shuffled around the room, placing their art down. Except from the siblings. Lloyd didn't know if they were twins, or in different grades. But it was clear they were siblings. They shared a last name, and looks that cousins couldn't have. Those two just sat on their chairs laughing and whispering to each other.

Lloyd hoped that the wax incident was going to be a one time thing, and that they'd leave him alone after that. The bell rang and Lloyd filed out of the room with the other students. He walked down the hall, holding his sketchbook, bag slung over his shoulder. He felt something move in front of his foot, and he went crashing to the ground. He fell on his face, splitting his lip.

Laughing echoed in the hallway. Lloyd touched his lip with his finger to feel blood gushing out of the wound. He looked up for who tripped him, noticing the twins, Harumi had her foot sticking out with a grin on her face. "Have a nice trip?" She and her brother laughed. Others joined in.

Lloyd scrambled to his feet, grabbing his sketchbook and hurried off, away from the laughing crowd. Tears stung his eyes. He hurried to the bathroom and grabbed a paper towel, trying to stop the bleeding, and cleaning up his face. Great. Now he was sure this would be a constant. How would he explain this to his mother?

Of course he couldn't tell her. He didn't want to be known as a mama's boy. That'd just make the bullying worse. Luckily for him, the wax happened to be white, so it would hide well enough. As for the lip, he'd just say he tripped over his shoelace. Yeah. That'd work.

He held the paper towel to his lip and left the bathroom. So much for just getting through freshman year quietly. Now he had no friends and was the subject of bullying. He walked to the office and headed in. He waved to the secretary and walked into his mother's office quietly. She was on a call, so he just sat on a chair and pulled out his sketchbook and doodled.

Once his mother was off the call, Koko turned to him. "Hello dear. What happened? Are you okay?" She asked worried.

Lloyd forced a smile. "I'm fine. Just tripped on my shoelace and split my lip a bit. I'll be okay."

Koko nodded and gave a kind smile to her son. "As long as you're okay."

A knock sounded on the door, and his mother invited the person in. Nya stuck her head through the door.

"Hey Principal Garmadon. I'm Nya Smith. Do you happen to know where my brother is right now?" Nya said.

Koko flashed another grin. "Another Smith! How wonderful. Did you try the student body room?"

Nya shook her head. "Sorry. I don't even know where that room is."

Lloyd looked to his math class neighbor. "I can take you." He offered. He needed to stay away from any questioning his mother might have.

Koko nodded at her son. "Oh yes. Lloyd could show you. We're not leaving for another 30 minutes anyway."

Nya smiled. "Sure. I wouldn't mind the company."

Lloyd stood from his seat, leaving his stuff in the chair. "Alright. Follow me."

The two left the Principal's office and Nya followed Lloyd down the hall. "I'm guessing you've wandered the halls too many times to count before?"

Lloyd gave a short laugh. "Yeah. My dad would go on trips and I'd have to go with my mom to the school. I was allowed to roam for the most part in junior high. So I know this place like I do my own house."

Nya smiled. "I'm sure that's the case with a lot of kids of school employees."

Lloyd nodded. "So, you have a brother?"

Nya nodded. "Yep. He's only a year older than me. Pretty popular."

"Do you hang out with him much?"

"Not at school. At lunch yeah. But I want to make my own way around the school social hierarchy. Not just have my brother hand it to me."

"Fair enough."

The two walked in silence the rest of the way. They soon made it to the student body room. It was one of the smaller classrooms. Which is why it was reserved for the student body.

"Is your brother a part of the student body?" Lloyd asked, stopping just short of the door."

Nya shook her head. "Not officially. But he does help out often, as per your mother's request. He was the one who got the woodshop and wielding classes. So your mom wanted him to help out, even though he didn't want to officially be a part of it."

Lloyd nodded. "I see. Well, this is the room." He turned around and headed back down the hall. "I'll see you in two days at the latest. I don't know if we have any B-day classes together."

"See you later, Lloyd." Nya said, walking into the student body room.

Lloyd walked to the closest bathroom and threw away the soaked, bloody paper towel. The blood on his lip dried over the split. He left it, not wanting it to bleed again. He licked his lips, slightly tasting the iron in his blood. He grabbed another paper towel and got it wet, then he cleaned up some of the blood around the wound.

That was a particularly nasty fall. Maybe if he had caught himself with his hands instead of his face. He sighed, throwing away the paper towel and walking out, and back down the hall. He made it back to his mother's office and walked in. She was talking with a teacher. Lloyd sat back on his chair and scrolled on his phone. Once the teacher left, Koko stood up.

"You ready to go home?" She asked.

Lloyd nodded. "Are you done for the day?"

"Yep." She grabbed her bag and turned off her computer.

The two walked out of the school through the teacher's door and into the car. Lloyd hopped in the back seat. He could sit in the front if he wanted, but he figured that sitting in the back would keep his mother from tussling his hair. Which she did often.

Lloyd watched out the window as they went home. About thirty minutes later, they reached home. His father's car was in the driveway.

"Looks like your dad is home from his trip early!" Koko said happily.

Lloyd smiled at the sight of his dad's car. He didn't get to see him as often as he'd like. So seeing him made him feel a bit better.

The car pulled into the driveway and Lloyd and his mother got out, and headed inside. Walking in, Garmadon was on his phone, reading news articles. He looked up to see his wife and son. He smiled. "Hello you two."

"Hey dad." Lloyd said with a smile. He walked over and gave his father a hug.

Garmadon hugged his son. "How was your first day of school?"

Lloyd shrugged. "It was alright. I tripped at the end of fifth period."

"On?"

"My shoelace. I caught myself with my face."

Garmadon nodded. "Well, I hope you're alright."

"I am." Lloyd lied. "Anyway, I'm going to go shower. See you at dinner."

Lloyd rushed upstairs to his room and locked the door. He tossed his stuff on the floor and walked over to his mirror. He looked at his hair and ran through it with his fingers. There was still a shit ton of wax in there. Luckily it would just dissolve in hot water. He just hoped it wouldn't ruin his hair. He kept good care of his hair, and this wax could kill it if he wasn't careful.

He had his own bathroom, so he went in there and hopped in. He carefully washed out the wax with hot water, then slowly switched it to cold water. He carefully washed his hair, and made sure it was carefully taken care of. He hopped out and dried his hair with a towel, before lightly blow drying it with warm air.

Lloyd looked at his hair. It was just fine, soft, undamaged, and no more wax. He took a deep breath. Good.Taking a good look at his lip, he figured he should properly clean it. He got it wet and wiped away the blood. Grabbing a cotton ball and some hydrogen peroxide, he put some on the cotton and dabbed at it. It stung a bit, but he cleaned the split without much trouble.

After cleaning it, he covered it with a small waterproof bandage. He'd take it off in the morning. Lloyd stepped out of the bathroom and back into his room. He put on some pajamas and sat on the bed. He opened his phone and saw that his friend group chat was blowing up. He caught up on their conversation and then joined in.

__________

Hey guys

Kira: Lloyd! How was East High? We're still so sad you can't come here.

Casten: Yeah. You missed out on a great first day!

Eh, it was okay. I guess.

And I'm sure I'm missing out on everything fun.

Camila: Just okay? Is something up? You usually

are more expressive.

Yeah, I mean, it was just quiet for the most

part. The first day isn't ever that exciting. At least

not when you go to a different school than your friends.

Casten: That's true. Hey, at least we can all hang

out when our school sports face each other.

Kira: Exactly! And we'll keep you in the loop about

fun things going on, and we'll invite you. Just don't

forget to make other friends. Cause it'll make things better!

If it helps, I did meet a girl named Nya. She's pretty

friendly. She's in my language class.

Casten: Ooh! Do you have a picture of her?

I don't have a picture, but I did draw her.

Camila: I'd count a drawing from you as a picture,

considering how well you draw.

Kira: Oh! She's pretty!

Casten: You should be friends, and introduce her

to us. 😏

Casten... No...

Casten: Hahaha!! I'm joking!

Camila: You'd better be. You don't need to hit

on every girl we meet.

Casten: I don't!!

Kira: Maybe not all, but most.

Geez. You're all nutjobs. lmao.

Kira: You love us!

Yeah yeah. I do. Anyway. I have to go. Mom's calling

for dinner, and dad is home today.

Camila: That's a nice surprise. Have a good dinner!

Kira: Talk to you later Lloyd.

Casten: Bye!!!!!!!!

__________

Lloyd set his phone down and took a breath. It was only the first day of school, and he already missed his friends, and had enemies. He didn't feel the need to tell his friends about the problems yet. He'd wait and see if it got worse. He hoped it didn't.

He heard his mom call for him, and Lloyd sat up. He really should head down for dinner. He stood up off the bed and walked out of his room. Heading downstairs he sat in the dining room as his mom put the chicken and gravy and rice on the table. His dad joined them and both parents sat at the table.

They dished up food, and it was quiet for the first little bit. But then Garmadon cleared his throat.

"So, how was your first day of school, Lloyd?" He asked.

Lloyd shrugged and swallowed the food he was chewing. "It was okay. Aside from tripping." He gave a fake laugh. "Nothing too exciting happened."

"What about your art class? I figured you'd like Ms. Wren." Koko said.

"I do. She liked the art I did today. Said it was pretty good. Considering I used charcoal." Lloyd said, taking a bite of rice.

"That's good. Made any friends yet?" Garmadon asked.

Lloyd just shook his head.

"What about Nya? You seemed to be friendly with her." Koko said.

"A girl?" Garmadon asked, curiously.

Lloyd sighed. "Dad, no. And mom, we just happen to sit next to each other in language. I can be nice to people without being friends."

"You never know if you don't try." His father said.

"Well it's only the first day. You can't expect me to know yet." Lloyd said.

Koko looked at her son. "Yes, but you can still try."

Lloyd sighed, tired of this conversation.  "I get it. I just don't know why I should just make new friends, when I could just go to West High and be with people who are already my friends."

"Your mother works at East High, it won't hurt to go there." Garmadon said. "Besides, there has to be some people from your junior high that you could recognize and be friends with."

Lloyd shook his head. "Not really. Everyone wanted to go to East High, aside from a small few I never talked to, and those whose parents made them."

"Well I'm sorry, but nothing is changing. You'll go to West High for high school." Garmadon said.

Lloyd huffed.. "Fine. Whatever."

They finished dinner in silence. When he was done, Lloyd cleaned up his plate and walked upstairs to his room. He locked the door and flopped on his bed. He was tired already, and school had just started. Generally he was an all A student. Not because his mother was a principal or anything, but simply because he cared about school. But with the way this first day had gone, he questioned whether he could do any better than a B.

He pushed himself onto his back and got in bed properly. He was just exhausted. And he still had a while before the weekend. Getting warm under his blankets, he closed his eyes, and let himself sleep.
