Sometimes Maxim would stand in the doorway of the music room and listen to Lydia play the piano. Rebecca would usually be siting on the settee. Once she was done, he made his presence known by applauding.
“I’ve never heard this song before. Did you write it yourself?” he asked her.
Lydia looked proud as she told him she was inspired by something she used to do as a little girl.
She would go out to the happy valley to look at the moon, falling asleep among the bluebells until morning when Rebecca found her and brought her back inside.
