Work Text:
Selena and Odin were no strangers to long journeys, quite the opposite in fact. Fighting two wars… you could say they were used to it by now.
So when Selena had started feeling under the weather, she knew something was off. Yet in spite of this, she still persisted and acted as though everything was normal. Eventually though, she couldn't anymore, and fell to her knees.
“S–Selena!” Odin exclaimed, picking her up from the ground. “Selena, something tells me you’re exhausted!”
Selena took a short breath. “I’m just fine… You have to be stupid to worry about something this small.” She said, not trying to convince Odin, but instead herself.
“Hey, Beruka!” Odin yelled, glancing at Beruka. “Go get Corrin– Or better yet, go get a healer.”
Beruka nodded, and Selena had averted her gaze. She felt powerless and weak, but she couldn't hide her sickness any longer even if she wanted to.
Soon Beruka had acquired Elise, accompanied by Corrin and Azura before going back to Camilla’s side.
“Hey, Selena! How are you feeling?” Elise asked while feeling worrisome. Azura was checking her temperature.
“…A little dizzy… I guess…” Selena tried to play it off, but no one was falling for it.
Odin loved all Selena to bits and pieces, so his heart couldn't help but ache when she tried to hide her illness.
“There’s a fever, and a rash… Just as I feared…” Azura spoke.
“Azura, are you familiar with these symptoms?” Corrin asked.
“I had read about it before we went to Norte Sagesse, apparently it’s a sickness epidemic to the islands.” Azura explained. “She must have caught it at Norte Sagasse…”
“Do you think she’ll be alright?!” Odin questioned loudly.
“…Unfortunately, it’s a very fast-progressing illness. We could lose her if we don’t act fast.” Azura responded, unnaturally calm. It almost angered Odin.
“Unfortunately, staves only work on wounds. There’s a type of plant that’s only in Hoshido, me and Elise could turn into a drug that may cure her though.”
Selena looked like she wanted to say something, but whatever she had to say couldn't come out of her mouth.
If Odin had to guess, it would probably be some kind of denial that she wasn't alright.
“Corrin, We have some new orders!” Silas said, coming up to Corrin.
Odin tuned out most of what Silas was saying– Nothing could be more important than Selena’s life at this moment.
“Selena, you mustn't worry. I’ll get to safety faster than a wyvern in heat.”
Selena was placed inside the convoy carriage, and Corrin explained that they were going to Macarath, where the best doctors they could find were.
Odin was especially swift, even passing Corrin, the troop leader, while walking a few times. His nerves were unparalleled.
But of course, of course there would be a Hoshidan army in the way, because why wouldn't there be?
Ryoma demanded for Corrin to come back, and when Corrin refused… Long story short, a giant battle between Corrin’s army and Ryoma’s.
Corrin, sword fighting with Ryoma, was almost one sided. Ryoma was incredibly powerful, and Corrin was going to lose.
Until Laslow (and Peri!) showed up! Laslow and Ryoma engaged in a battle, which eventually came to a draw.
“I’m glad to see you're alright, leader. What’s the situation?” Laslow asked.
After an incredibly brief introduction, Corrin told Laslow the situation.
“Selena is… Oh gods…” Laslow spoke dimly, but quickly put on a smile. “Well, the only thing we can do now is fight.”
Ryoma sent out his troops.
Odin didn't want to leave Selena alone. As Laslow was on the battle field, Odin was with an almost unconscious Selena, protecting her from the few bandits who had snuck in the carriage.
When battles are fought, almost every time there will be a victor. The victor here was Corrin’s group, who had knocked Ryoma’s men unconscious and Ryoma was black and blue.
The second Ryoma retreated, Laslow came sprinting to Selena and grasped Odin’s hand.
“Selena! Gods, I was worried.” Laslow spoke. “We’ve defeated the enemy, we’re almost there.”
Selena glanced at Laslow, and fully lost consciousness.
—
“The worst is over, I believe.” A maid said. Laslow thanked the maid, and she told him and Odin to call her if they needed anything.
Selena slowly woke up, noticing the room she was in was unfamiliar, and glanced as she noticed the comforting presence of Laslow and Odin.
“Selena! I see you’ve finally awoke!” Odin spoke, as a wave of relief washed over him. “Of course, we knew you would awake, our dark army couldn't survive without your aid!”
“We’re currently in Macarath, dear.” Laslow informed. “Your sickness will be mended if you continue to rest.”
Selena weakly smiled. “I was… dreaming… about my mother. Odin… did you…?”
Odin shook his head. “You would know I hadn't meddled with your dreams since our valiant vows of love.”
Laslow shyly grabbed Selena’s hand. “My love, you should get some more rest. You can’t just go around exhausting yourself.”
And so, Selena did as Laslow asked and drifted off while Laslow let go of her hand.
“Man, she really can be stubborn, can’t she?” Laslow said. “I suppose I’m just glad she’s safe. Thanks for sticking by her side, Owain”
“I’ll always try to be someone whom you can rely on.” Odin said. “Plus, my love for you two transcends universes, it’s only natural I’d stay by Severa’s side.”
Laslow smiled, and gripped Odin's hand. “That is the truth, isn't it… Gods, despite how similar this world is to ours, you can never let your guard down for a second here.”
Odin nodded. “We were chosen to come here for a reason. The three of us are powerful enough ourselves to overcome trials such as this!”
Laslow snickered. “Well you have a point. Either way, I suppose all we can do now is stand by her side as she recovers.”
Odin nodded in response, and the two of them quietly chatted while trying not to wake Selena up.
