Chapter Text
As a preserving student in an art school, of course you’d be submitting your assignment before the due date, but one thing had wrecked your whole plan—that your seatmate didn’t come to submit the assignment together with you (it was one of the terms you and your teacher had made together, to submit everything in time and together with your seatmate). It was all composed and had perfectly balanced brush strokes on a canvas you two have stolen bought together from an art supplies store. It wasn’t your intention at all; it was all Gerard’s idea. He could’ve bought the canvas like a normal person would do, but like a common art student, his money was tight and he had to be prudent of how he used his money.
Forget about that, now you were running half late to the art office across your class’ building—carrying the big canvas with you—the usual 5 minute walk to the art office could take 10 minutes or even more than that. Only if Gerard was here to help you carry the canvas, it would be easier. Though he’s not here right now, you still wish he’d magically appeared somewhere.
It’s due 15 minutes, you were all sweating along your skin, your hands were a bit trembling from how heavy the canvas was. A sudden strong breeze carried your hair all to your face—covering your vision. You tried to push away your hair by blowing it up many times, nothing such as that would work if you were battling the strong breeze and didn’t bother to tie your hair up.
Fortunately, someone with a familiar figure seemed to appear near the art office’s front door. Ah, of course, that man, Gerard fuckin’ Way! You slowed your pace and took a breath before shattering through the wind and yelling out loud his name—you didn’t care about the people that might hear you, annoyance had abruptly appeared inside—the wind carried your voice to his ears, it felt like a sudden turbulence had just hit him.
“GERARD FUCKIN’ WAY!!! You were here all the time??” You approached him as you asked.
“Listen, I’m trying to be a good student, waiting for you here!” Gerard tried to maintain his straight-serious face to you, “see?” He crossed his arms, tapping his foot on the ground.
You huffed aloud, giving the big and heavy canvas to him with a rigid motion, even though Gerard didn’t seem interested in helping you at all. After all of that, you didn’t feel really annoyed at him, you couldn’t see or imagine yourself holding him in place and being frantic at him—even after all of those annoying things he had done to you—you still can’t even try to scold him. There was something about him that just piqued your mind, and you haven’t figured it out, yet.
Hush! You must be focused on the assignment now. You saw Gerard now carrying the canvas to the art office, placing it somewhere that should’ve been a sign you two were done doing the assignment. As Gerard came back to you, he placed both hands on his hips, as if he was about to have a very important talk with you. He exhaled the way you did when you were annoyed with him.
You raised your eyebrows at him, getting curious, “what is it?”
He immediately turned his head away from you, biting his lower lips because of the sudden nervousness that had creeped into his neck and face, unusually shivering down his spine.
“C’mon,” you asked him again despite the current state he was in now, you clearly could see his expressions and all of that—but curiosity has restrained your attention from him. Lied, you also tried to hold yourself, preventing you from crashing your mind out when he acted like that. So captivating from those eyes of yours.
Gerard sighed and finally turned his head back to see you again, eyes locked to yours, that beautiful hazel eyes.. Oh God, you have to stop for once! What was he trying to talk about? You wanted to ask him again but he interrupted you, “for God’s sake, I was distracted by something, my attention became my own puzzle,” he blinked way too much as he said that, “I… I wanna talk about something.”
You raised your eyebrows even more at him, it felt like Gerard is just throwing a pile of words at you, while you’re still stuck in the perplexing space yours had unconsciously made; both because of the way he acted and you were annoyed by him. “Talking about what?” You interrupted him before he tried to open his mouth, “what kind of thing? Should I be worried?”
He groaned at how impatient you were, he took a step closer at you, landing his palm at your shoulder with a soft thud. He looked you sharp in the eyes again, those eyes of him latched your mind—you immediately lost your attention again because of him. What is it with Gerard being all those pretty like this? What is it?
Gerard opened his mouth, stammering his words before he could even talk.
“What.. what about… another assignment that is due tonight?”
You immediately palmed your face, rolling your eyes in annoyance. You held his hand that was gripping your shoulder, bringing it down (now you’re practically holding hands with him). You patted his hands before looking him in the eyes again, emitting and reassuring yourself after how he had you on the verge of irritation (and tears).
But something has halted you, as if your heart stopped beating for a second, you just realized that his hands were cold as ice, you could feel his fingers cling a bit to yours, unconsciously seeking for warmth. Something heated up to your cheeks, you felt something had just shot through your heart, locking your body in place. You tried to hush up that feeling, trying to regain your composure—and failed.
“Sweet Gerard Arthur Way,” you called out his full government name casually, despite the state you’re in, “sweet fuckin’ Gerard, you just told me about that right now? After we’ve spent three days without sleep?”
You continued with an obvious displeasure. You wanted to go to your place and immediately went to sleep, but now that he mentioned another unfinished assignment you two have to get it done, you wanted to scream out something from your lungs until your body gushed out from screaming. Yet of how you acted in front of him, it was a wall you tried to build, as if to make the feeling couldn’t rush in; and to ruin everything.
“I know I should've mentioned that assignment a while ago so we can do those both assignments together, but–” you interrupted him as he was trying to defend himself from uncertain bullets. “Okay, let’s stop all this nonsense and do that assignment,” you initiated.
. . .
It all happened in a short time, when you and Gerard were submitting the assignment, it was 2 in the afternoon. Now both of you are going into the usual art supplies store to buy another canvas and papers. The familiar paint scent filled up into your nose, the strong scent had you almost sneezing onto Gerard’s back as you walked behind him. The old slightly broken wooden floor made you aware of your own legs, the wooden shelves and racks always caught your attention because of its old ornaments around the corners.
Gerard, the kind and brainy beyond reason, would somehow gladly pay for all the art supplies—but he had one way, you must share all of the art supplies he had bought no matter what. Of course, typical. There’s always a catch if you’re working together with him. You hated him for that, it felt like you had no personal thing to keep to yourself.
But out of all of that, again, you still somehow can’t confront him about that. There’s something so persuasive about him that is holding you back, as if you wanted to avoid that, it will always try to force you back to your place. You wondered, is this even a magic spell he had on you?!
Something suddenly snapped in front of your face, of course it was Gerard again, snapping his fingers to get your attention. You were standing in front of a shelf full of sketchbooks, so he thought you wanted one of them.
“It seems like you were having a fun time in your own world, are we done?”
“Did you get what you wanted, Gee?” You answered as you tried to regain your consciousness again.
“Oh c’mon, I've got them since forever you stared at this shelf. So, what now? You want them?”
You hesitated, now you’re searching deep into your own thoughts—a habit you’ve somehow had developed since you entered this art school. You needed a new sketchbook, indeed.. But Gerard is the one that is up paying for you, that means he will ask for something in return… you think, think, and think.
“Hey? You’re there?” He waved his hand in front of you, trying to get your attention again.
You knew you needed to choose quickly before he chose for you, “i won’t buy a new sketchbook, i already have one” You said abruptly.
“You only have one,” he repeated the last words you said, “then you need another one.”
You sighed loudly, already fed up by his words. Seeing him already carrying canvas and papers in his hands, you turned his body around and pushed him to the cashier. You were too tired to handle his antics, really wanted to get this assignment done by this night.
…
Now it’s 5 in the afternoon, you thought you and Gerard would do the assignment in your house—but he brought you to his place instead, insisting it would be all easier to manage there.
He sprawled the canvas first, then the papers across the floor. He actually had no idea of the assignment concept, he was kneeling on the floor beside the canvas and papers, now looking up at you with those cute puppy eyes and heavenly eyelashes, batting it at you as if you were going to melt, act like a god/goddess and help him.
You sighed, getting up from your seat and approaching him, kneeling next to him. They needed to make a relief painting, that’s why he bought a lot of papers. He emitted and collapsed to the ground, a faint “ow!” Escaped his mouth, following with a loud groan. It seemed like both of you just got a brain fog at the same damn time while you two are slowly running out of time, making your pulse rate quicker with the thought of you both couldn’t finish the assignment in time.
You sighed as you saw Gerard lying on the floor, something captivated you to join him—you lowered your back and rested your head on the hard floor, now he saw you lying next to him. Breathing in and out as you gradually realize something is writhing inside your mind, you exhaled loudly—it caught Gerard’s attention—closing your eyes as you tried to clear your mind.
“What is it? Sugar?”
Gerard immediately stopped himself after he realized what he had said to you, he’d been holding himself to not babble, but it seemed like he failed to control himself either.
You that were closing your eyes in peace, suddenly were wide awake. Eyes wide open at what he just said. Those pet names you always wanted to hear from his mouth, he just said it casually like that. That something inside your mind spread into something more than just a thought—you felt your ears burning red as hell, so was Gerard.
“I.. I-I didn’t mean to!” He quickly explained himself, “I was.. I was uh…”
Seeing him stuttering at his own words, your baffled expression quickly turned into a light laugh in the air. Your laugh made his ears even redder—even spread into his cheeks and neck!
“Oh, Gee! I’d never.. i’d never thought–” amusement had drowned you, you laughed a lot he even turned his face around—feeling shy and flustered.
