The balance of light and calm

Summary:

North and Otto are the perfect couple, but their world changes when they both fall for the mysterious Wave.

Work Text:

The relationship between North and Otto was, to anyone who saw them from the outside, a perfect choreography. North was the sun: an Alpha brimming with boundless energy, whose laughter had the power to illuminate even the grayest corner of the city. He was impulsive, passionate, and lived every moment as if it were the climax of an action movie. On the other hand, Otto was the moon: an Omega who embodied serenity. He possessed infinite patience and a warmth that brought North back down to earth when he soared too high.

They had been together for two years. Their apartment was filled with details that told their story: the plants Otto lovingly tended and the extreme sports trophies North collected. They were happy in their routine of candlelit dinners, TV series marathons, and promises of an eternal future. However, fate isn't satisfied with perfection; sometimes, it seeks transformation.

Everything changed one ordinary Tuesday at the city library. Otto was engrossed in his history notes, while North, who was there simply for the pleasure of being near him, tried to stave off boredom by fiddling with his pen. Then, it happened.

The study door opened and Wave walked in.

Wave was an Omega, but not a conventional one. He had a presence that demanded attention without saying a word. His movements were precise, almost elegant, and he carried an air of intelligent melancholy that was magnetic. He sat at the table opposite, took out a book of poetry, and put on his glasses.

North was the first to notice the change in the air. His Alpha instincts sharpened, not with aggression, but with a voracious curiosity. He looked at Wave and felt an electric spark unlike anything he had ever experienced before. But what was most surprising was when he turned his head to look at his boyfriend. Otto wasn't looking at his notes; his eyes were fixed on Wave, his mouth slightly open, and his expression one of utter fascination.

That night, in the silence of their room, North was the first to break the ice.

"Otto... did you see the boy from the library?"

Otto sighed, burying his face in the pillow. "I thought I was the only one. North, I've never felt anything like this. His scent... it's like the sea before a storm."

North wrapped his arms around Otto's waist, their foreheads touching. "I felt it too. And the craziest thing is, I'm not jealous that you're looking at him. I feel like... we're missing him."

From that day on, North and Otto didn't drift apart. On the contrary, they grew closer than ever with a common goal: to draw Wave into their world. They knew that Wave wasn't someone who would be impressed by luxuries or empty words; he was deep, and they would have to be too.

The conquest was a display of coordination. North took on the role of the driving force. He began leaving small tokens on Wave's library table: coffee exactly the way Wave liked it, a note with an interesting fact about the author he was reading, or simply a wildflower. North used his charisma to make him smile, gradually lowering Wave's defenses.

Otto, for his part, was the architect of intimacy. When Wave finally agreed to sit with them, Otto didn't overwhelm him. He talked to him about music, feelings, and shared silences. He created a safe space where Wave didn't feel like a stranger, but rather like someone who had always belonged there.

However, Wave was cautious. He had been hurt before, and the idea of entering an already established relationship frightened him.

"You're already perfect," Wave told them one rainy afternoon as the three of them shared an umbrella. "Why would you want someone like me disrupting your equilibrium?"

That question was the trigger that led North and Otto to reveal all their intentions. For weeks, they did the impossible. North canceled business trips to be present for every one of Wave's exams, supporting him from the front row. Otto spent entire nights helping him organize his thesis, looking after his health, and making sure Wave felt like the most valuable person on the planet.

But the defining moment came on North and Otto's anniversary. Instead of a private dinner, they invited Wave to a lookout point overlooking the entire city. The wind blew hard, ruffling all three of their hair.

North stepped forward, taking Wave's right hand.

"Wave, you think we're perfect, but the truth is, since you came into our lives, we realized we were living in black and white. You're the color we didn't know we needed. I don't want a life where I have to choose between Otto and you, because my heart grew to fit both of you."

Otto took Wave's left hand, his voice a firm whisper on the wind.

"You're not breaking our balance, Wave." You're completing it. A two-legged table always wobbles; with three, it's indestructible. We want to take care of you, we want you to take care of us, and above all, we want this love to never be divided.
