Chapter 1: Just What She Needed. Another Family

Chapter Text

One month earlier
“If you destroy the fortress, you will destroy all the files that are on it” Dreykov said. “Good thing we got that covered” Natasha replied. “Melina, did you manage to upload the server files to the flash drive?” A buzz then an accented voice replied “Sure did”

Current day
Natasha could not stop thinking about those files. They’d used the files to help the widows reunite with their families, and that had gotten Natasha to start thinking about her own. It was only a few clicks away. On the hard drive that was currently right beside her on the desk. She had been trying to comb through the records so that she could flag ones that had died so that their families could be informed and the ones without families, or with families that had moved on or didn’t care or were no longer alive, so that they could all get proper funerals. But she was done going back and forth. She searched for her name and she found her file.

Natalie Mary Murdock
Murdock. Her real name. It was an Irish name. She was at least partially Irish.
She read further
She found the section they had titled “connections”
Apparently, she had been declared dead at birth, but her mother had actually given her away. Margaret Grace. That had been her mother's name. And Jonathan Murdock had been her father. And she froze when she read the last part.
She had a twin brother.
Matthew Michael Murdock.

After letting herself take a breath, she started digging. Margaret, or Maggie, Grace, turned out to be a nun at a church in Hell’s Kitchen. Also, said church doubled as an orphanage. Interesting how she was so eager to give away her daughter and then help take care of others kids, she thought bitterly. Jonathan Murdock had been known as Jack Murdock. He was a boxer, known by the name Battlin Jack Murdock, but he died 25 years ago. Shot in a back alley. Found by his son. Matt Murdock.

Matt was a very intriguing person. He lost his sight at age eight from a chemical spill. Now he was a lawyer, a good one too from the looks of it. Had his own small firm. Nelson Murdock and Page. They worked largely pro bono, helping out the locals, and their reviews were consistently positive and happy. She was happy. Happy that he had a good life. She wondered what it would have been like if she had grown up with him. With her brother. Which is still a crazy thought to think about but one that she will have to get used to. Her phone then buzzed, a text from Steve telling her to come down for dinner was on the screen. She’d figure out what to do about this in the morning.
