Chapter Text
The theater group. Meredith would have to be happy with it because the school demanded for every student to be in a group and the theater was the only with openings. She also didn't want to be a cheerleader at all.
There were four other names on the sign-up sheet: Isobel Stevens, George O'Malley, Cristina Yang and Alex Karev. Meredith had already heard some of those names on other classes and she already had an idea of who these people were by it.
"Signing up for theater? Please say yes, because we need it." A guy with blue eyes and styled black hair leaned on the wall next to Meredith, he looked her up and down before studying the sign-up sheet.
"Uh, yeah. I'm Meredith." She extended a hand for a handshake but it was ignored by the boy so she dropped it back down.
"I'm Derek. Five sign-ups, huh? The group needs it, it's relatively new, people barely signed up last year. I know you all probably just signed up because it was the only group available, but I hope you're decent actors, you don't even need to be on a level like mine." Meredith rolled her eyes and smiled.
"So humble." She replied sarcastically. "Now that I'm talking to you, when do the rehearsals start?"
"Next week. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:00 p.m." He answered casually.
"Well, thank you... Derek, right?" Meredith turned around and walked away ready to go home.
"We're gonna do a production of Romeo and Juliet. Im Romeo, maybe you can be Juliet what do you think?" Derek called out. His smirk could be heard when he talked.
Meredith rolled her eyes before answering over her shoulder. "I'll think about it."
Izzie walked into the theater room. There were older students talking to the teacher, discussing something about the set as a girl with paints gesticulated.
There was only one person that she had seen in a class, a girl with curly black hair and an emotionless face. She sat on the floor looking through what seemed to be the script. There were four other scripts on the floor besides the one she was holding.
Izzie put her usual smile on her face and approached the girl. "Hi, I'm Izzie, are you now in the group, too?"
The girl looked Izzie up and down an sighed. "You're the cheerful girl."
"What?"
"The cheerful girl. Look at you, all bubbly and happy. I'm Cristina. They said these scripts are for us, it's gonna be a production of Romeo and Juliet, how creative." Cristina handed one of the scripts to Izzie.
Izzie was trying to understand if she should be offended by what Cristina had said, but decided to ignore it instead. She grabbed the script and sat down. "Any idea why they're basically arguing?"
Cristina dropped her script and looked at the others. "Something about the set, the girl with the paints was saying she couldn't make the whole set by herself in time, the others are saying there's no way they will be doing that and the teacher is saying something about 'putting the rookies to use', which means us and the other three that are still missing." She gestures to the other three scripts.
With that a boy walked in, opening the doors wide like he owned the place. He looked fairly strong and walked up to Izzie and Cristina, probably having recognized them.
"You know the football field is outside, right?" Izzie asked him.
"Who says I don't know where I am? I signed up for the theater, blondie." He drop his bag and grabbed a script. "Romeo and Juliet? Really? What are we, middle-schoolers?"
"We kinda were, like, 3 months ago-"
"You see? He understands! Everyone does Romeo and Juliet, we should do something else."
The doors opened yet again, but this time it was a boy and a girl, he looked shy as he held the door for her and she looked tired as she muttered a 'thank you'. They walked up to the trio and Izzie smiled.
"Hi, I'm Izzie, nice to meet you. This is Cristina and this is... I'm sorry, I don't know your name." The false sympathy in Izzie's voice was clear.
"I'm Alex. Alex Karev."
"I'm George." He looked at the tired-looking girl.
"I'm Meredith."
"She's in a worse mood than you, blondie."
"Shut up, Alex." Alex smirked and Izzie rolled her eyes.
"Hello kids." The teacher had approached them, it seemed like the other issue had been solved. "I'm the teacher who's in charge of the theater club, I'm Mr. Webber, but you can call me Richard if you prefer." The 5 of them just stared at him, so he cleared his throat and kept talking. "Well, before we discuss your parts on the play I want to tell you that you will have to help with getting the set and other things ready, we don't have much people in the group, so-"
"We heard your conversation." Cristina interrupted. "We know the others don't wanna do it so you're making us work, no need to lie." Izzie looked surprised as Cristina called the teacher out on his lies, but she shook her flabbergasted look off and nodded in agreement to reinforce the argument.
Richard looked at the kids as they stared at him blankly. He sighed. "Let's decide the parts then, come on."
