Ogilvie does return to the ER, though probably not for the right reasons. He doesn't come back cause he realised he belongs in the Pitt, or Because his ego won't let him quit.
No it's non of that, he comes back because of Dr Whitaker, he wants... needs him to be proud of him. He craves the shorter mans approval like a drug.
So he steps back, letting Whitaker lead him through procedures with his kind guiding hands. He pays close attention to how Whitaker and Mohan the hospitals most compassionate doctors treat their patients, the way they talk to them, how they smile at people and he copies them.
It seems to be working, at the end of his second day Whitaker pulls him aside.
"You did great today Ogilvie" Dennis says beaming at him.
"Thank you Dr Whitaker" he says trying to keep his voice even.
Whitaker grips his shoulder "I'm glad you decided to come back" the Doctor says honestly.
Ogilvie's face heats at Whitaker's words "I'm glad I came back to"
Whitaker unfortunately lets go of his shoulder, Ogilvie tries not to let his disappointment show on his face.
"Listen me and some of the others were thinking about going to a bar, you wanna come?"
The taller man internally jumps for joy, Whitaker must like him if he's actively asking to spend time with him.
"Yeah, I'd like that"
Whitaker grins at him "Good, go wait outside I'll give you a lift"
James heads out the Pitt feeling like he's walking on sunshine, the poler opposite of what he felt yesterday.
He guesses that's just the affect Whitaker has.
