Aphmau and Aaron were sat in the cafe, catching up, laughing…
They knew they were being watched but at this point they didn’t really care, It felt like they were in their own personal bubble.
Eventually, the two decided to leave the cafe together, Aaron offering to walk Aphmau back to her dorm. They started the walk well, keeping that same bubble, it was the first time the two had genuinely smiled in a while. This was until Jenny walked towards them.
“Aaron!” she shouted from down the sidewalk. Aaron suddenly tensed, stopping in his tracks. A softer voice plays in his head “Aaron..?”, Aphmau’s voice. “I don't think you're the caged bird you think you are.”
This calms him slightly, until he remembers the blonde girl who's coming towards them. “Aaron!? I haven’t heard from you in ages! Where have you been?”
Aaron didn't want to turn and look at her, but he did anyway. “Jenny? Hey..um… I've just been busy..you know…classes…” Aaron responded quickly.
“Not busy enough for Aphmau…” Jenny mumbled. “Mm?” Aaron looked at her confused. “Oh, nothing,” Jenny started. “Just wondered if we could… hang out sometime… You know…as boyfriend and girlfriend?” Jenny asked, glancing over at Aphmau slightly to see her reaction.
Aphmaus’ face went shocked, looking at Aaron and mouthing “boyfriend and girlfriend?” Aaron watched her lips, mouthing back “I’ll tell you in a bit,” Aphmau nodded.
“Jenny, that sounds great, but Im hanging with Aph today, she's my best friend…so… I’ll get back to you on that, okay?”
“Oh…okay,” Jenny responded, surprisingly calm. Aaron looked back at Aphmau before continuing the walk to her dorm.
When they got to Aphmau's dorm, she asked him about Jenny.
“So…she asked you out…you panicked…said yes..and now don't know how to break up with her?” Aphmau asked after Aaron told her everything.
“Basically…yeah…” Aaron wanted to hide in his hoodie.
Aphmau gave him a sympathetic look.
Aaron let out a long breath, “Well, there is another reason I want to break up with her…”
“Okay..?” Aphmau said, confused “And that is?”
“Do you remember that promise we made in high school?” Aaron started.
Aphmau let out a small chuckle, “Which one?”
“The one about us getting together…”
“Oh..yeah…” Aphmau smiled, remembering that moment from when they were younger.
“I want it to happen.”
Aphmau's face quickly turned shocked, “What..?”
“I want to be with you… I know the consequences it will have because of our parents…But, I don't care, we’re adults…and I can't keep pretending I'm not madly in love with you…” Aaron stuttered.
“Aaron…” was the only response that could come out of Aphmau’s mouth at first. She then smiled, remembering what that meant.
Aphmau stood up from her bed, “Well, if you remember the promise…you remember what's meant to happen in return.”
Aaron stood up as well, “Oh, I do,” Aaron placed one hand on Aphmau's waist, the other on her face, pulling her close before connecting in a kiss. It was soft, but desperate. Aphmau’s arms were around Aaron's neck, her hands messing with the ends of his hair.
Eventually, they broke apart, Aaron's hands on Aphmau's waist and her hands cupping his face. They were silent for a while before Aphmau started speaking. “If you want this with me, you know what you have to do…”
“Tell Jenny I'm not interested, I know…”
“Good.”
