Chapter Text
The sun dipped low in the sky, casting a warm golden hue over the sprawling city. Segasaki Mizuki leaned against the cool marble railing of his family’s mansion, his heart racing as he glanced back at the entrance. He was supposed to be at school, surrounded by friends and the usual chaos of senior year, but today was different. Today, he had a secret to protect.
Inside, the house was quiet, save for the soft clinking of pots and pans coming from the kitchen. Mizuki’s stomach growled, but he pushed aside his hunger, focusing instead on the reason he had skipped school. Yoh. His heart swelled at the thought of the gentle omega who had stolen his breath away since the moment they met.
“Yoh!” Mizuki called, stepping into the kitchen. The aroma of simmering vegetables and spices filled the air, making his mouth water. There, standing at the stove, was Tanada Yoh, his soft features illuminated by the warm glow of the overhead lights.
Yoh turned, a shy smile spreading across his face. “Mizuki! You’re home early?” His voice was melodic, a soothing balm to Mizuki's frayed nerves.
“Just wanted to check on you,” Mizuki replied, stepping closer. He watched as Yoh stirred the pot, his delicate hands moving with practiced ease. “What are you making?”
“Just some miso soup,” Yoh said, his cheeks flushing slightly. “I thought it would be nice for dinner.”
Mizuki’s heart ached at the sight of Yoh, so dedicated and nurturing, yet so vulnerable. He knew the omega was terrified of the future his parents had planned for him—a future that involved an arranged marriage to a much older man. Mizuki couldn’t bear the thought of Yoh being taken away from him, forced into a life he didn’t want.
“Yoh,” Mizuki said softly, stepping closer. “You know you don’t have to do this alone, right? I’m here for you.”
Yoh looked down, his expression clouded with worry. “I know, but… what if they find me here? What if they come for me?”
“They won’t,” Mizuki reassured him, reaching out to gently lift Yoh’s chin. “My parents are doing everything they can to keep you safe. You’re family now.”
At that, Yoh’s eyes glistened with unshed tears. “Your mother calls me ‘her baby’ like I’m one of you. I don’t want to be a burden.”
“You’re not a burden,” Mizuki insisted, his voice firm. “You’re my mate, and I’ll do whatever it takes to protect you.”
Yoh’s gaze softened, and for a moment, the weight of the world seemed to lift from his shoulders. Mizuki felt a surge of affection, wanting nothing more than to pull Yoh into his arms and shield him from all harm.
“Can I show you something?” Yoh asked suddenly, a spark of excitement breaking through his anxiety.
“Of course!” Mizuki replied, intrigued.
Yoh led him to a small nook in the house, a cozy corner filled with plants and sunlight. A small vanity sat against the wall, adorned with makeup and brushes. Mizuki raised an eyebrow, surprised.
“I’ve been practicing,” Yoh said, his cheeks flushing again. “I wanted to try something new, but I didn’t want to wear too much. I thought maybe you could help me?”
Mizuki chuckled, his heart swelling with affection. “Help you? With makeup?”
Yoh nodded, biting his lip. “Just a little. I want to feel pretty, even if it’s just for us.”
“Okay, let’s do it,” Mizuki said, his voice warm and encouraging. He sat down beside Yoh, who eagerly began to show him the different colors and techniques.
As they worked together, laughter filled the air, and for a brief moment, the outside world faded away. Mizuki felt a sense of peace wash over him, knowing that in this hidden haven, they could be themselves, free from the burdens of their families and society.
But deep down, Mizuki knew that their secret wouldn’t stay hidden forever. He could feel the storm brewing, and he was determined to protect Yoh at all costs.
