Work Text:
Scar thought he had always been a clean person but now after a day of work and pampering form his Prep Team he knew he had never been clean before. They had scrubbed and polished, oiled and perfumed him, they had even put fake tan on him, just to enhance what he already had. Under his stylists insistence they had made sure that the scars he had on his upper body, from training accidents through the years were highlighted with make up and not concealed, to make him look like a warrior.
“Oh great! You look fantastic Scar! Everybody will absolutely love you tonight! Show me that winning smile, let me see that Victor’s face!”
Lizzie, District 1’s Capitol Escort, had burst in the room, she had changed her outfit since Scar had seen her a couple of hours prior. The tribute smiled, showing off his pearly white teeth, the Prep team hadn’t even needed to whiten them.
“You look great, Lizzie!“
“Thank you, charmer, I also love what you’re… wearing.“
Wearing was maybe the incorrect term to describe Scars outfit, or lack thereof; his upper body was completely naked, except for the green and copper jewels that adorned him, while his legs was only covered by a glorified loincloth, of a deep green fabric, again bejewelled with emeralds and wire. He wore simple sandals that snaked their way up his calves, highlighting his defined muscles. As the team pondered Scar near-nakedness with a chuckle, Joel joined them, sighing from the door.
“So it’s one of those years? Oiled up and naked? Great… Anyways we have got to go, Parade starts in 15’.“
“Like that, no sir! Your tie is still out of place.”
Lizzie chimed, making her way over to fix it quickly. It was such a natural gesture, but the room behind them collectively rolled their eyes at their barely disguised affection. Even Scar, in the less than 48 hours he had known them, had figured out there was something between the two.
“Perfect! All right team, it’s showtime!“
As they walked towards the holding hall were the chariot waited to be boarded by the Tributes, Lizzie rattled off information and advice to Scar in rapid fire. Mostly mundane and obvious things, but one piece of information stood out to the District 2 Tribute.
“Focus on the fanfare and the music as you are going. Do not listen to any of the yelling from the spectators.“
“Why not?“
“The people watching the Tribute’s Parade live have been there since this morning waiting to see you, if they are just drunk it’s a positive outcome and they will say the meanest stuff. It simply will not help your confidence to hear what they have to say.“
“Alright then, I’m good at not listening anyways.“
Joel and Lizzie sent the boy off to stand on his chariot, as they made their way over to their assigned seats, which they had to pretend were casual placement, so that they could do PR from in between the stands. They took their place, about halfway through to the presidential balcony from the start, as the first chariot came out. Even from that far away Scar glowed and sparkled, in the golden hour light, he waved nonchalantly as the crowd exploded.
“I wish they remembered he’s only seventeen. This is disgusting.“
“I know you hate it, babe, but also I fear him being so young is part of the appeal…“
“Disgusting.“
The sound was deafening, but sometimes they managed to catch a full sentence, from an older woman right next to them for example, begging Scar to win so that she could have him. Joel made sure to *accidentally* push her as they left, sending her sprawling in an undignified position. Small rebellions, to cope with the disgusting place they lived in. For now.
