Work Text:

“Mipha?” The boy known as Revali repeats her name for the upteenth time but is met with no reply. For some reason unknown to Revali, she has ignored him all day and hasn’t even spared him a glance. Mipha has to have quite a bit of resolve to ignore the navy blue haired man, for he can be quite persistent.

“Cmonnn… not even a glance?” He whines while trying to get in front of her to get his attention. She simply turns away and walks into the other direction. Through all of their classes together and passing times, she hasn’t even acknowledged him. He has no clue what he did wrong but he’s starting to feel bad and like it’s somehow his fault.

He doesn’t get the chance to try and talk to her before she’s already left the hallway and is out of the school. He huffs and grabs his belongings out of his locker before slamming it, clearly upset. He walks out of the school and sees Mipha talking with the rest of the group, smiling and laughing.

He clenches his fists and walks out of the school gate, heading home. While he walks he filters through the memories of the previous day, carefully analyzing each interaction. He hadn’t said anything out of his normal and neither did she…well, till the silent treatment.

He groans and slaps his hands to his face, dragging them down it in frustration. “Have a girlfriend they say…it’s fun they say…till they ignore you for NO reason!” He mutters to himself before spotting his house. He walks up the steps and enters, slamming the door behind him and heading straight to his room, ignoring the concerned questions from Saki and Teba, his adoptive parents.

He slams the door behind him and throws his stuff on the floor (aside from his archery equipment, which he sets off to the side carefully), before collapsing on his bed like a dramatic toddler.

He lays in a sprawled out position a little longer till he actually moves into a more comfortable position, which is holding a pillow with one hand and holding his phone in the other. He opens one of his socials and sees that Mipha posted an image of her and the group getting drinks. He stares at it for a moment before dropping the phone screen down and buries his face into the pillow, holding onto it for dear life.

After a while he hears his door open, followed by the small footsteps of a certain younger brother. “Go away Tulin…” Revali mutters, rolling onto his other side away from the door. “Dad said to come see him” Tulin chirps out regardless before leaving to go do whatever else.

Revali groans before forcing himself up and downstairs to the kitchen where Teba is making dinner. Revali stands awkwardly by the doorway, looking away and not talking. “So,” Teba starts, “anything happen at school today?” He isn’t interrogative with the question, just curious.

Revali hesitates and doesn’t speak at first. “No…” he finally mutters, not believable at all unfortunately for him. Teba simply slides some chopped up vegetables into a pot before turning to look at the teenage boy, “is that so? I know you’re normally angsty but this tops the cake, kid. Something’s gotta be up.” He teases lightly but is still concerned nonetheless.

Revali sputters in indignation but just scoffs and looks away. “Fine… Mipha’s been ignoring me all day and I don’t know why…” he admits, crossing his arms and refusing eye contact. Teba just nods “ohhh… girl problems. Makes sense.”

Revali huffs and continues, “I don’t know why but she just won’t acknowledge me…at all! Like I’m a ghost! I haven’t said anything out of the ordinary- neither has she- and I swear it’s driving me insane!” He walks over to the fridge and goes to grab lactose free milk but there is none.

“Are we out of the only kind of milk I can drink??” Revali turns to Teba who is awkwardly tossing out the empty carton of lactose free milk. “Sorry, Tulin drank the last of it. I’ll pick up more tomorrow” which leads to an overly annoyed groan from Revali and hitting his head against the fridge defeatedly.

“Seriously? HE CAN DRINK THE NORMAL MILK! I CANT! Why did Hylia curse me today?!” The dramatic yelling of Revali is tuned out by Teba, who is used to it by now.

Revali walks and sits over at the table in the dining room and drops his head on to it with a solid thud. “You’re going to know yourself out doing that one of these days” Teba slightly reprimands from the kitchen which is met with the snark of Revali saying “good, I hope it does. It’ll save me from the headache of life.” “No, it’ll just give you a bigger headache, kid. I can assure you as much”

Saki later walks in and fruitlessly tries to give advice to Revali but just ends up rubbing his back quietly in comfort. Revali doesn’t push away and just lets her do it, knowing he secretly enjoys the affection even if he’d rather die than admit it.

They all eventually enjoy their dinner and Revali finds himself in a slightly better mood than before. He finds comfort in the family he was adopted by, knowing he’s still getting used to how one works.

When he goes to bed that night he still sends Mipha “goodnight Angel” knowing she probably won’t reply but figures he should anyway.

The next morning Revali wakes up and does his normal routine before heading to school. He looks for Mipha and the group, finding them at the normal before school hangout. He walks over to them and gives a small wave before going over to Mipha.

“Still ignoring me today, Angel?” He asks, hoping she replies. But much to his dismay, he’s met with silence and avoidance. He doesn’t even bother to go after her “got it…” he mutters before heading into the school building, beginning his morning classes.

The morning passes in a blur, mostly because he’s distracted from work and thinking about him and Mipha. He always knew he was less than pleasant to be around but she had always tolerated it. Has she finally had enough of him?

He feels himself beginning to silently spiral after lunch when she completely ignored him again. Maybe she really is done with him but doesn’t want to say it. Maybe she doesn’t like being seen with a jerk like him. Maybe she finally realized she deserves better than him…

He must be really out of it because what snaps him back to reality is seeing Mipha talking to Link with no care in the world. Seeing that puts a pit in his stomach. Did she fall for him again…? Is she distancing him because she doesn’t know how to say that she doesn’t want him anymore?

He feels that same prickle of guilt and sadness hit him all over again. Like when they’ve gotten in arguments and he feels like she may see him for who he truly was and leave. He knows he shouldn’t feel so selfishly, about her no less, but he can’t help it.

He walks away before he does something stupid and heads to the archery range which is usually his safe place. It’s empty and quiet, which is normally nice but is only amplifying the thoughts in his mind.

He gets his bow out and his quiver with a few arrows, getting ready to practice. He knocks an arrow but feels his phone buzz. He pulls it out and clicks on the notification…

An image of the group all hanging out and having fun. Mipha right next to Link, Zelda holding the phone, Daruk and Urbosa holding a peace sign, and a tag that reads “#out with the gang”… wasn’t he a part of the gang…?

He knows he always denies it but he enjoys hanging out with them more than he lets on. He thinks about how the others have been kinda ignoring him too, not just Mipha. Are they done with him too…? What the hell is going on?

He gives up on practice and just heads home to sulk, not talking to anyone about it, even Teba. He just thinks to himself of all the possibilities of why they’re ignoring him. Was it his fault? What did he do? Why are they leaving him? Why does he care so much? He’s been alone before…who cares if it happens again…

He hugs his pillow and doesn’t bother sending Mipha a message goodnight, she won’t look anyways…

°~…_…~°°~…_…~°°~…_…~°

At school the next day he just watches the others from afar…they do seem to be having more fun without him… he shakes his head and holds it high, not showing an ounce of self doubt.

He walks over and stands by the group not saying anything but listening. They talk about normal topics that he’d normally add snarky remarks to but he doesn’t, just stays silent. He notices the group shift away from him, Mipha, shift away from him. He feels like something stabbed him in the heart with that. He can’t tell what, but it hurts.

He feels his hands begin to shake and he takes a deep breath before possibly doing the most impulsive thing. He walks over and grabs Mipha’s hand before leading her away from the group. He takes her to a private place in the school yard till he lets her go and begins talking.

“Before you run off, I just want to say something, alright Mipha?” He says, not expecting an answer. He can see a flicker of concern pass through her eyes and she finally looks at him for the first time in the past two days.

“Listen, I know you may be upset with me and I may not know why but I just want to apologize. Also I don’t know the reason for your cold shoulder but if you have something you want to say to me, just do. I don’t care what it is, whether it’s calling me insults, o-or telling me we’re done and that you’ve found someone better, I don’t care…just talk to me, please…” he feels his voice tremble at his last sentence and gets quieter.

It’s a moment of quiet and Revali feels his inner fears rise up…maybe she really is done with him. Abandoning him for someone better… he clenches his fists and looks away, trying to control his breathing that is getting shakier and quicker than he’d care to admit.

“Oh Revali…” Mipha finally speaks up, her voice small but clearly emotional as well. She grabs his hands and pulls into a hug, holding him tightly.

“I’m so sorry! Zelda was doing an experiment of some sort and she wanted us to help with it! She said we just needed to avoid interacting with you for a few days and she’d pay us back sometime with anything we wanted. I had no idea it would affect you this badly and I hope you can forgive me and everyone else sometime…” she rambles out while holding him tightly, guilt and concern echoing her every word. She also sounds a bit emotional herself, reflecting the genuine guilt she has.

Revali didn’t realize how close to breaking he was until the hug and he found himself holding back embarrassing sounds and tears. He holds her back and buries his head into her shoulder, holding back actual sobs. He was so scared, so damn scared that he messed up and ruined the best damn thing he had going for him.

He sniffles and just holds her, forcing back the fear that rose in him not too long ago. Mipha rubs his back and reassures him that she loves him and keeps apologizing, hoping he doesn’t hate her.

After a long while he speaks up “Mipha…?” To which she replies “hm?” “Dont ever do that again…please.” He asks quite pathetically for a man with his pride. “I swear that I won’t ever do it again…” she reassures. “I love you, bluebird…” “I love you too, Angel…”

°~…_…~°°~…_…~°°~…_…~°

For a while after that, Revali finds himself clingier to her and gives Zelda more glares than he can count. He’s relieved it wasn’t for anything he did, but still was upset about it. He forgives Mipha about a week later and moves on, except for his clinginess. Which is appeased by many kisses and hugs.

He also was a little upset with the others but forgave them a little after Mipha. They make it up to him by listening to his prideful tangents now, which he’s satisfied with. He still is a little embarrassed by his emotional state from the ordeal but feels much better. After all, he gets treated a little better now, especially from Mipha.

While they did stupid stuff, they put in the effort and made up for it, ensuring they wouldn’t do that to anyone ever again as a prank or “study”. Revali is glad he has these idiots and his Angel…
