Saved or Stockholm?

Summary:

After being taken away from her homeland, the Mighty Eagle tries to convince her that it was a "rescue", but does Silver really feel that way?

Notes:

EDIT (5/23/26): This was originally going to be a multi-chapter story but I don't think I'm ready for that yet. I'll be keeping it as-is for now but maybe I'll upload a Part 2 one day. I apologize to those who were looking forward to more chapters and thank you all for the support thus far.

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: A quick author's note before we get started: I'm a recent fan of the Angry Birds series and "lore". I haven't watched most of the shows such as Toons so I may portray some characters as being OOC and some locations may not be distinct since I have a limited knowledge as of now. I'll try to learn more as I go along writing the story but this piece is mostly a braindump of my personal headcannon of how Silver became part of the flock since there is frustratingly little information about it.

Work Text:

Life had always been a blur for Silver, now that she was being forced to look back on it.

"The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes were the piggies' adoring faces," Silver recollected slowly, not even looking at the bird she was speaking to. "They loved me from the moment I was hatched out of my egg and you're trying to tell me that they are somehow evil?"

In front of her was a fat—though admittedly terrifying—eagle whose stare Silver thought would never leave her even though she hadn't looked up at him the minute she woke up inside of his cave. She wished that she could somehow get away from him, but ever since she woke up he had been grilling her with questions about her life with the pigs. No matter what response she gave out, it was never enough for him to finally allow her to get away from his cold, dark cave.

After an uncomfortably long pause with only the sounds of the eagle's heavy breathing, he responded: "Your quip assumes that all of pigs you have interacted with have been kind to you. Are you positive that there was not one that you would consider abnormal?"

Silver's mind was still on her hatchday when the eagle asked her that question. When she processed it, her memories pulled out an image of a distraught pig alongside the swarm of the happy piggies that were wishing her a delightful welcome to the place that we call Earth. "Well," Silver said, "there's this one pig that seems to have hated my guts the moment I was hatched. Whenever I meet him, he's always making these angry-looking faces even when I'm just standing around! But I don't really mind since he works at the king's palace as his chef so I don't see him that often—and I always make sure to prank him hard whenever he's too mean to me!" Silver started to laugh after adding her little quip as a way to relieve some of the tension.

The eagle didn't seem to be as amused as she was. "One of the king's loyal confidants being rude, how unexpected."

"Well... they're not all bad! There's this one pig—his name is Professor Pig by the way—who is really awesome! He comes up with these really cool inventions and I'm one of the few creatures that he lets me study with because there's this one pig who keeps stealing his blueprints and the others just don't seem to care about what he has to say! He was the one who taught me most of my knowledge on how to build cool contraptions and how to solve complicated problems and—"

"I know! You've been bragging about your bird-brain ever since this meeting started!" the eagle screeched in her face. Whilst giving her time to physically and mentally compose herself, he decided to hit her with a particularly hard question. "Silver, since we are on the topic of your hatchday, you recognize that you were there because the were planning to eat you, correct?"

"Yes, but—"

"What are your thoughts on the pigs eating our bird eggs?"

Silver was prideful of her smarts, but this was going to be a tricky one to answer. "Uhm... Every living being has to eat, right? You guys probably eat... uhm... bugs and worms! Why do the pigs wanting to have eggs a part of their diet somehow make them evil?"

"Look at yourself! Justifying the consumption of your own species! That's why I had to swoop in to save you! The pigs have clearly brainwashed you from your hatchday to not only be like one of them, but to antagonize your own species!"

"That doesn't justify you taking me away from my own home!" Silver cried out as she finally raised her head up to meet the eagle's striking eyes. The last time she saw those eyes, he was flying her away from Pig City which was the place where she grew up in—as well as the place the eagle had decimated in an blink of the eye. "You probably killed much more living creatures when you kidnapped me than the amount of birds that the pigs have consumed via eggs. I don't even know if the pigs ever ate an egg before!"

"And if they had managed to have eaten one if you didn't hatch that day?"

"I... would have probably gotten out mostly unharmed when they have cracked the egg!"

"What if the king was craving a boiled egg that day?"

"I... would have... kicked? Yeah! I would have kicked! I'm a smart birdie now and I bet I was a smart birdie then! The pigs would have noticed when I made any movement! They're nice beings and no amount of you yapping will ever convince me that they're evil monsters!"

"ENOUGH!!! You are clearly delusional! From this day forward, you will have to integrate into bird society in order to shed away the propaganda that pigs have been feeding you! You will not be allowed into Piggy Island as long as you live! Quit with your rambling and get out of my sight!"

Silver wanted to give him a piece of her mind but she had been in that cave for so long that she decided to agree with him for once. She slowly hopped to the edge of the cave and before enacting her standard somersault, she heard this comment from the end of the cave:

"For your information, I rescued you—that was not a kidnapping," the eagle said ominously.

Silver didn't bother to respond this time. A few moments afterward, she hit the rocky ground with a large 'THUMP' and didn't move away from where she landed. She needed to rest for a little while. She needed to process what had happened to her.
