Work Text:
Tommy was stubborn.
He was hard working, determined, and would never give up on something he truly believed in. It was frankly very admirable and Wilbur wished he had even a fraction of Tommy’s stubborn determination. But this stubborn determination came at a cost. He never took breaks, even when Wilbur would beg him to. Many times, Wilbur would have to use the sweetest honeyed words and nearly pry Tommy away from his computer just to get him to stop for the night. It was a regular routine and something that Wilbur had just come to expect from the younger.
And it wasn’t long until Tommy found himself overworked and sick. He had slept most of the day, barely able to get out of bed, nose stuffed and running. Wilbur had brought him medicine through out the day and had helped him to the couch so at the very least Tommy could sit up and actually watch tv. So it came as quite a surprise when Tommy insisted that he was still going to stream right on schedule that night.
“Absolutely not,” Wilbur said firmly.
“C’mon Wil, I gotta,” Tommy said, trying his best to get up from the couch. “People are expecting it and I have to stream. It’s my job.”
“Is your job also to die live on stream?” Wilbur asked, lightly pushing on Tommy’s chest, which made him stumble back onto the couch.
“I’m not gonna die,” Tommy insisted with a chuckle. “It’s just a little cold.”
“Oh really?” Wilbur asked crossing his arms.
“Yes, I’m fine.”
“Alright then. Get up and walk over to me,” Wilbur said taking a few steps backwards. Tommy rolled his eyes and proceeded to start getting up. Wilbur could see the shaking in his arms, the struggle to stand, and once Tommy was standing, he swayed a moment before he slowly took uneven steps towards Wilbur. He nearly fell against his chest.
“S-See?” Tommy said. “I’m fine.”
“You’re lucky you’re cute,” Wilbur said, wrapping his arms around him. “Can you just be honest with me for a moment?”
“Fine.”
“Which sounds better, trying to stream or cuddling up with me and watching movies?”
“Mmm you,” Tommy mumbled, pressing his face into Wilbur’s chest.
“That’s what I thought. Now, you get cozy, sunshine, and I’ll take care of everything.”
“But Wilbur what about-”
“I said I’ll take care of everything.”
Finally, Tommy relented. He allowed Wilbur to help guide him back to the couch and get cozy. Wilbur picked up Tommy’s phone and navigated discord to the server he had that was specifically for him and his mods.
Tommyinnit: hey guys, cancelling the stream tonight. Tommy is insanely sick and can barely get up. He fought me on it, but I think we’d all prefer him alive. I’ll make a post on his twitter too. Thank you guys -Wilbur
Almost immediately, kind words came back from Tommy’s mods thanking Wilbur for updating them and for taking care of Tommy. Wilbur glanced down at Tommy on the couch to find his eyes already closed, head lulled to the side as he finally gave in to his exhaustion. He felt a tug on his heart seeing the poor boy like this. Wilbur looked back at Tommy’s phone and opened up twitter, quickly making a post.
Stream cancelled today. Big man Tom is sick and is a stubborn lad who refused to cancel, but the man can barely stand. He'll be back next week like normal. Have good week! -Wilbur
With that, Wilbur closed Tommy’s phone and sat it aside. He turned his attention back to the poor sick boy in front of him.
“Tommy?” Wilbur asked softly. He heard Tommy’s breathing shift and his eyes slowly open and look up at him.
“Hey, sweetheart. May I help you get more comfortable?” He asked. Tommy nodded. Carefully, Wilbur undid Tommy’s jeans and pulled them off. Wilbur then pulled off his hoodie and slid it over Tommy’s head, helping him put it on. Tommy snuggled into the larger hoodie with a smile on his face. Wilbur leaned down and kissed Tommy’s forehead.
“I’ll be right back, okay?” Wilbur said softly. Tommy nodded and let his eyes close again. Wilbur headed to the bathroom and opened the cabinet. His eyes quickly glanced over all the different objects until he found the cold medicine. Wilbur filled a cup with water and dropped the two tablets into the water. He returned to the living room and turned on the tv before he kneeled in front of Tommy.
“Hey, puppy. I got medicine for you.”
Tommy sat up a little and took the cup from him. He stared into the cup a moment before he quickly downed it. Tommy’s face screwed up in digust and Wilbur chuckled as he took the cup from him.
“Good boy. Now then, why don’t we watch something fun together?” Wilbur asked.
“Can we watch Princess and the Frog?” Tommy asked.
“Absolutely.”
Wilbur sat on the couch and after some rearranging, Tommy was laying against his chest under a blanket while Wilbur put the movie on. Once it started, he heard Tommy let out a relieved sigh.
“Thanks Wil,” He mumbled. “Sorry I’m stubborn.”
“I love that you’re stubborn. It’s part of who you are, puppy, but sometimes you gotta just relax and take a break.”
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.”
“Maybe next time I will just let you die on stream,” Wilbur joked. “At least you’d get a lot of views.”
Tommy whined and hugged Wilbur.
“Just shut uuuup and cuddle meeeee.”
“Oh? Have we reached the whiny ‘take-care-of-me’ Tommy? Has your stubbornness finally gone away?” Wilbur teased.
“You win, okay? I’m sick and you’re right. I need to take breaks. Happy now, bunny?”
Wilbur smiled and put a loving arm around him.
“Yes. Yes I am.”
The two of them fell into a comfortable silence as the movie played on the tv in front of them. It wasn’t very long before Wilbur heard light snoring coming from Tommy against his chest. He smiled and lovingly pet his hair. He hated that Tommy was sick, but he did love how cuddly and cute it made the boy and Wilbur loved being his personal pillow. Tommy was so warm against him and Wilbur enjoyed the slight weight pressed against him as well.
Before the movie was even half over, both Wilbur and Tommy had fallen asleep.
