Firefighter Violet Lanes is undergoing therapy following an incident involving her little sister, Powder, that nearly resulted in Violet's death. She has since returned to her duties after a year, having overcome a seven-week recovery period.

Vi is then left in a difficult situation when Vander falls ill, worrying the whole family. She juggles two full-time jobs while taking care of her sister, unable to sleep, only to wake up to her alarm at 5 a.m.

Lead doctor and owner of the hospital โ€œHearts Of Harmony,โ€ named Caitlyn Kiramman, worked tirelessly over the years after the loss of her mother in a car accident when she was 16 years old.

Cait's world is turned upside down when Vi suffers an injury that almost takes her life, and the two fall head over heels for each other while Violet begins to recover.

Chapter 1: Rushing Around

Chapter Text

โ€œPowder, have you seen my coat?โ€ Vi shouted across the house. Powder answered, โ€œUh, no!โ€

Vi mumbled something to her as she looked down at her watch, her powder-blue eyes widening as she quickly brushed her messy hair. โ€œFuck, I'm already late.โ€ Slipping her blue T-shirt over herself, Vi came downstairs, saying, โ€œMorning, Dad, goodbye,โ€ while stealing the last piece of toast from the plate as Powder was reaching for it. Vi hadn't eaten all morning; she was starving.

Powder scowled, dumbfounded, blinking. โ€œHey, food stealer!โ€ she yelled.

Vander shook his head, chuckling at Powder's small crash out. โ€œBye, kiddo, stay safe today!โ€ he called out.

Violet peeked from behind the door, smirking. โ€œCan't make promises, comes with the job. Love you both, see you around 12ish!โ€ She then slammed the door shut.

While eating the last bit of food left on her plate, Powder glanced over. โ€œOh There it is. Crazy bitch forgot her coat!โ€

โ€œWell, hurry, go give it to her before she leaves!โ€ Vander acknowledged, and Powder nodded, opening the front door and bolting to Vi's car as it started.

โ€œVi!โ€ Powder called, knocking on her car window. Vi looked and jumped for a moment as she rolled it down. โ€œOh! Thank you,โ€ she smiled, taking the coat. โ€œNo problem, sis. Hey, stay safe out there, please? Come home alive.โ€

โ€œI'll try; you know I can't make promises,โ€ Violet answered softly. โ€œI'm late, bye. I love you, Pow-Pow.โ€

Powder waved goodbye as Vi pulled out of the driveway and called out, โ€œStay out of trouble, okay?โ€

Powder smirked, flinging her sister's words back at her. โ€œCan't make promises!โ€ Vi just laughed, shaking her head as she drove out of sight, and Powder headed back inside. โ€œShe's so easy to bother, hehe.โ€

โ€œMove, move!โ€ a doctor shouted, rolling a bleeding patient into the surgical room. โ€œWhat do we got?โ€ a surgeon asked. โ€œYoung male, possible spinal injury,โ€ she immediately replied without hesitation. He nodded, taking him back as the doctor just stood there and sighed.

โ€œRough week, Kiramman?โ€ asked a blond, ginger-headed woman from her desk. โ€œYou have no idea,โ€ she replied. "Hey, Maddie, did you check my schedule? Am I free for the week? I promised my dad I would take him out."

Maddie hummed. โ€œLet me see,โ€ she said, scrolling through her boss's schedule, then frowned. โ€œUgh, Caitlyn, you're busy all summer, Sunday through Friday. Sorry to disappoint you. But, you have Saturday off this week.โ€

โ€œPerfect, I'll call him,โ€ Cait smiled.

Maddie fell silent as Caitlyn picked up the phone, then spoke. โ€œSpeaking of your dad, how is he? You know, with the whole accident thing?โ€ she asked softly.

Caitlyn looked over her shoulder briefly before putting the phone to her ear. โ€œHe's getting there. He isn't really a hundred percent.โ€

โ€œSorry to hear that,โ€ Maddie sighed, casting her powder-blue gaze toward her computer screen. Caitlyn walked off, as her father's voice picked up.

๐‘ฏ๐’†๐’š ๐’Œ๐’Š๐’…๐’…๐’, ๐’‰๐’๐’˜ ๐’‚๐’“๐’† ๐’š๐’๐’–?

โ€œI should be asking you the same thing,โ€ Dr. Kiramman asserted.

Tobias laughed.

โ€œThat's a good problem to have,โ€œ giggled Caitlyn, leaning against the wall of the storage room. โ€œHey, look, Thursday won't work like I thought it would, so how's Saturday?โ€

๐’€๐’†๐’‚๐’‰, ๐’˜๐’‰๐’‚๐’• ๐’•๐’Š๐’Ž๐’†?

โ€œProbably noon.โ€

โ€œYou will.โ€

The indigo-blue-haired woman would laugh. โ€œI will. I love you, Father. Don't overwork yourself.โ€

๐‘ฏ๐’Ž๐’Ž, ๐’š๐’๐’– ๐’†๐’Š๐’•๐’‰๐’†๐’“! ๐‘ณ๐’๐’—๐’† ๐’š๐’๐’–.

And the phone hung up.

Caitlyn stood there for a bit until her patient monitor went off; that was her cue to get back to work.
