Chapter Text
Grian pins Scar down, fist plummeting down on to his face. He feels Scar's nose break as another punch lands.
Scar hisses out in pain, weakly attempting to get Grian off of him. but soon even that stops. Grian's ears ring, panting as he draws his punches, adrenaline dwindling.
He knows Scar is dead; he doesn't have to look at him to know it. He moves off of Scar collapsing beside him everything spinning, his vision blurring in and out his consciousness holding on by a thread.
He sits up slowly, getting on his knees. sand sticks to his wings and hands. covered in blood and bruises every part of him aches.
He wraps his arms around himself, tears spring to his eyes.
The game is over now but at what cost? He had lost everyone.
alliances, friends and now he had killed the man he loved.
The blood still on his hands. the body in front of him.
Grian looks down at Scar laying lifeless on the hot desert ground, blood spilling from his nose and mouth bruises blooming across his skin, eyes milky and glazed over.
he chokes back a sob, his shoulders shaking, tears trailing down his face.
Moving closer to scar grains hand hovers over him. His skin is cold scars blending into now pale skin.
Grian touches his cheek softly. rubbing his thumb back and forward.
a tear lands on Scar, pulling him into his arms Grian cradles his lifeless body.
He brushes a lock of hair out of Scars face. wishing that his eyes were green instead of red and that he was alive not dead, wishing he was never in this game to begin with.
“I'm sorry,” Grian murmurs, voice hoarse, “I'm so sorry,” he holds Scar closer.
his throat tightens, eyes burning as his vision blurs, shoulders shaking,
a cry escapes ugly and painful.
The world seems as if it’s narrowed to only him and Scar. He wants it to be over already, he won this wretched game and now he sits in the aftermath.
Pain and grief fills him. He feels lost not knowing what to do, He looks down at Scar in his arms sniffling, he wipes his nose on his sleeve.
He knows he won’t be able to live with himself knowing what he’s done.
He looks up over the cacti that surround him. the cliff. It would be the easiest way, he knows it.
a tear trails down his face as he looks at Scar laying him down carefully he closes his eyes and presses a kiss to his forehead.
“I love you” he whispers.
Grian stands up, breaking one of the cacti he walks out of the ring.
a grave stands beside the cliff's edge, steading himself against it he rubs the back of his neck, hair standing on end.
For a moment it is as if another person is with him, grian twists around trying to see if anyone is nearby. his wings puffing up defensively, no one should be here.
Everyone but him is dead.
ignoring it Grian steps closer to the edge, but something feels off with his wings, they feel…looser?
As if…they can’t be. He tries to extend one of his wings, to his surprise it works. his wing extends sand falling from it. His wings are no longer bound by the game's rules.
he smiles sadly as he extends his wings, stretching them out. He admires the colours it had been weeks since he had seen them fully;
He understands why he felt like someone was with him earlier, like he was being watched. He realizes why his wings are unbound. Now of all times, they want him to stop, but he won’t. Death is the only option he’ll take; he flaps his wings a few times before folding them against his back.
looking over the edge of the cliff. He sees a moon shaped crater in the distance, a trench filled with lava beside it.
The server is quiet, empty, almost like a picture, a moment frozen in time. peacefulness hiding the tragedies the server held.
He takes a deep breath and looks across the server one last time.
Closing his eyes he steps off the edge. the weight of everything coming down with him.
The fall feels like forever as memories of lost lives, of flowers, and alliances, promises kept and broken, of relationships and friendships that were made and lost. Every waking moment flashes before his eyes.
almost as sudden as it began, it ends.
